i find it useful for the notifications piece, not constantly having to pull my phone out and tracking my activity (rings in the apple world). I rarely use it to track actual workouts, but i know people who do. there are so many things you can do with it, i am sure she will love it. if not, keep it for yourself.
So my wife just bought me/us a new MacBook for Christmas. We have an 8 y/o who will be needing a desktop soon enough for school, do you guys know if there is a docking station that I could just use this new computer as the home computer as well when he needs it?
Anyone else having issues with the charging time of the X? Seems like it takes longer than previous versions to charge. Should I be looking into the wireless charging to fix that?
My wife & I have had a Series 3 w/ Cellular, since October. It has become my daily wear around the house/town, supplanting timepieces I own. This is due to comfort & notifications coupled with ability respond to texts/calls using the watch... plus I don’t care if I bang the hell out of this watch. A couple points about the watch: I doubt I keep the cellular past the 3 month free intro. I think I’ve used it less than 10x in 2 months & it was never necessary. Notifications are nice, but the watches functionality is limited. I know there’s a fine line, with battery constraints, but wish it was capable of just a bit more. I wish the watch integrated with Apple Car Play, so I didn’t have to drive with AirPods in my ears, or fumble around attempting to find them if I’m sans phone while driving. All said, I’d buy it again. It’s comfy on the wrist & has earned a place in my watch rotation
Looking for wife. Apple Watch or iPad? She's home all day most days so I'm leaning iPad as I think she'll use it more. Her old one is 5 years old and is too slow to even use now. But I know you've been a big fan of the watch so idk.
how often does she use her iPad? has she complained about the slowness of her iPad and wanting a new one? has she mentioned wanting a watch before? that should help you with your decision.
She used to use it a lot but now uses her phone bc the iPad is so slow. She's mentioed several times she wants a new iPad but she's also said she wants a watch. I think the easy solution is just get the watch and the regular iPad instead of the pro. Combined they'll be the same price as the iPad Pro.
that's what i would do then if i were you. i know you mentioned in the sneaker thread she is getting into photography, so if that's the case and she really gets into it, editing photos on the iPad Pro may be better, but i'm sure for her level of photography skills at this point, a normal iPad would suffice.
Yea I don't see her ever getting heavy into it. A bit of Photoshop would be the extent of her photography editing.
Looking into it for you. Have a 15, so I use one monitor and the screen of the Laptop as the second. But I think has two ports.
i looked at ipad pro's earlier in the week. they seem to be more for people who take their work seriously, like photo editing and video. if its just for normal around the house use, i'd just get the regular ipad. and like you said, for the price, you could get both the ipad and the watch.
dblplay1212 id get her the Apple Watch series 1. They don’t make the 2 anymore and the 3 seems like it would be overkill for someone who is just at home. The one will give her all the cool shit but be less expensive and save you on having to pay for cell service. The two would probably be too much also. I’d probably go the Apple Watch 1 and the 9.7 iPad that would same price range getting the 10.5 pro.
Went with the series 3. Entered the Apple Store and was walking out with the watch within 3 minutes. I've never seen such efficiency.
Anyone have any recs for replacement battery for an old MacBook Air. I was thinking about getting a new laptop entirely but given the fact I only use it for light browsing and word processing a new battery seems a more efficient solution.
Three days in with iPhone X. Like it far better than any phone since maybe iPhone 4. First one that feels truly new and actually more efficient. The screen is cool and all but honestly the speed combined with the bottom app switcher is the game changer. Whole thing is just insanely speedy to get basic tasks done.
I'm due for an iPhone upgrade and reading thru this thread it sounds like X is preferred over the 8? It's about 9 dollars more per month for the X with my plan, so that seems like a no brainer. Any other advice/drawbacks/advantages of the X over the 8?
None. It’s awesome. The iPhone 8 Plus screen is a little wider actually. Might be something you’d like but I wouldn’t. Think the 8 Plus might also be better battery life because I’m sure it’s a larger set of cells.
I’ve had a 7+ and the X. My wife has the 8+. I’d go pick both up and see which size you like better. Both are great phones. I could switch mine out with an 8+ and be plenty satisfied.
Yeah I think the 8 plus is just a little big for carrying around in my pocket so it's mainly just between the 8 and X.
Great for showing to my Nieces and nephews, but not very usable since without an X, they are unrespondable.
Druce how's your process going? need help setting up a workspace with 13.3 macbook pro we use standard desktops at work so this is all foreign to me, excuse any dumb questions: 1 - is WIFI ok or is it strongly preferred to do hard wire? 2 - better to use a docking station where you close your laptop and just use the processing + 2 screens/keyboard/mouse? Or is it better to get one like Fafa fofo posted that keeps your computer as one screen? or is this solely a cost/preference thing? 3 - What's the process of getting word/excel on my Mac? 4 - if doing just the one big screen (plan on getting one that's larger as main) + mac screen do I just get a normal monitor and there's a special cable that goes from docking station/mac to the extra screen (is this the thunderbolt) thing? I actually have an extra smaller screen at the office I can take home and use if I'm able to connect it somehow which would allow me to have mac screen + big screen + another small one. edit: basically something like this would be perfect. what all pieces are necessary. I'm jon snow on this and all things apple related outside of iphones

Are there other bands than the apple ones? Think I would want multiple looks but they are pricey. Also is there really any difference between the aluminum and stainless?

i got black and sliver. i really like them. wasnt a fan of the band the watch comes with, didnt have a hole that fit me well. was either too tight or too loose and lost connection.
I went from a 6 that could barely hold a charge and would take literally seconds to open a text to a X
I’ve got a 6+ that’s absolute trash. I’m waiting on folks with the X to complain about burn in or whatever else before I finalize my decision.
my only annoyances are the side button if the phone doesn't wake on first press, you press it again and it brings up apple pay which makes no sense considering you need to double touch the side button for apple pay but that means it should've registered my first press in order to wake it up it also does not lock sometimes and goes to apple pay instead; it used to go to siri when trying to lock but I just disabled siri on the side button
