Overcharging for additional storage, and the lack of expandable memory, has always been a black eye on Apple’s resume. They can’t price a 64 to 128 at $150 without getting blasted.
That and file sizes of photos & videos have gotten much larger as the cameras have gotten better over the years
It's all pricing strategey. People who want the best will just pay for the highest priced phone so apple works backward from what they think people will pay. Then give you as a little as possible and think wow 1000 dollars is a good deal comapred to 1500. It's smart and it works.
My revolving sushi bar does this. There are five plates, ranging from 1.50 (white plate items) to 5.50 (black plate). I've never seen a black plate the many times that I've been, but I feel like I'm getting a good deal even when I snag the 4.50 blue plate. It's all a show.
They do this every year. There was no 64gb 7+. They pretty much always have the super low storage version, skip the next level, and then high storage versions.
I've never filled up a 64gb. If they were pricing reasonably for storage id agree with you, but as long as we are paying a premium to get the higher storage levels I'll stick with the 64gb.
On the surface that seems like a great deal. The apple plan its $54 for that and you pay the taxes up front.
You have me feeling like I am getting duped. What did you pay for your X and what did you get trade in?
The payoff would be in a separate transaction since it was on a different purchase agreement. The trade in knocked it down from $54, which makes more sense than $45 to $40, and on the X he'd likely also traded in his last phone for that one.
It’s att next not the apple program. I had the 7 traded in for the x have the x and will trade in on XS Max. Before It let me submit order on XS MAX I had to pay ~90 “upgrade fee” and obvi commit to sending in x in 14 days or less. Still not sure why it’s cheaper than the x tho. I bought all 4 last phones on original release date via same system.
I wouldn't even say the screen is worse on the XR just a bit different. Blurrier but probably brighter. No 3d touch on XR from my understanding though.
I never liked how Apple handled storage for messages. If you have a video on your phone but then send it, it would take up twice the storage. I get that it keeps a backup but it should be smart enough to reference an image/video so it wouldn’t duplicate storage.
Tyfys Wat? Doesn’t matter. The mic on my 7 has been busted from overheating for about a month and I was able to get the Xs shipped the 21st and would have to wait til Oct for an Xr. So I pulled the trigger.
What do you store on your phone? I looked at my X memory, had about ~10gb left. Deleted old texts, pushed optimized photos to the iCloud, and I can trim music easily and freed up another 5.
The XR is IP67 and the XSs are IP68. These are water resistance ratings. Basically if you get drunk at a pool party and wake up to find your phone at the bottom of the diving area, the XS will probably work in the morning but the XR won't. I can't think of many other practical differences.
$0.99 a month for 50gb seems like a better deal than an extra $200 to me, at least for my purposes, but to each their own.
I thought with Apple upgrade program after one year you just hand your phone in like a lease. No trade in value. After 2 it was yours. No?
IP68 is only up to two meters. Unless the diving end of the pool is for babies, a phone at the bottom of it is likely going to be toast.
Bought an iPad 5th generation (finally upgrading from my iPad 2 with the old school charger), anyone have any suggestions on a good, simple case? Not looking for anything too crazy, just something with some protection and the ability to fold it up and watch it on flights.
True. It actually could be more than 2 meters. 2 meters is the minimum. Forgot 8 was the max so it has just a minimum standard instead of a min and max
Looking into it apple says its 2m for 30 minutes. So yeah it wouldnt survive in the situation i put forth.
Figured so. There's not much motivation to go beyond the minimum. If you dropped it and it went to bottom but you grabbed it soon afterwards, like within 15-30 minutes, it would be fine, overnight though and the phone is a fancy paperweight
Q: I have to turn my X back into Verizon for the upgrade I’m doing. It says on the trade-in page that it had to be in working condition without damage to the screen or charging port. There’s no damage to either, but there is a small crack on the back of the phone. No clue how that would have happened since it’s been in a case the whole time. If I take it to one of those iPhone fixit places and they replace the back should I be able to get away with turning it in still? Never used one of those places. Don’t have Apple Care.
Just so you know... The back glass on iPhones cannot be replaced (due to the waterproofing process). Apple will replace the phone for the price of a screen replacement if you are friendly to the Apple employee. Source: I’ve taken multiple 8s and Xs in for repair because our employees are clumsy.
As a follow up, send your phone back in with the case on it, they shouldn’t care about a hairline crack on the back.
Make an appointment for screen damage. Play dumb (and nice). They’ll tell you a screen replacement is $279 but the back can’t be repaired. Then they’ll tell you that they can swap the phone for a refurb at the screen replacement price. I’ve never had the retail store charge me full price for a replacement on nearly a dozen replacements this year. Like I said though, if it was me, I’d ship it as is with the case on.
Yeah they will. A crack will matter a scratch or any normal wear and tear won’t. So it will really matter on how much damage is done. Go to a store and show them the phone see what they say. Don’t give your number or info just in case they take notes to put on the account. That might be paranoid on my part.
Appreciate the information but I got a good deal on this one and don't really need the brand new one, I don't use my iPad enough. Mainly I just wanted to upgrade the memory as well as the screen. No use in spending $400+ for those two items. But I do want to protect this one so any advice anyone has on cases would be helpful.
