In response to the OP:
Fuck no, lol.
luckily for all of us he took a gap year with the Preschool Peace Corps to build sand castles for kids in Cameroon
I am starting to find less comfort in the studies Illinihockey linked the other day.
it’s gonna go away with the summer heat! kids don’t get it!
Breitbart is their source for articles
All these people that only follow the facts and studies are constantly wrong. Weird
Palm Beach County, FL
This all fucking sucks. But slightly comforted to see there is a well thought out plan in place. There looks to be a lot of work and $ going towards helping all kids get computer/Internet access as needed, which is great. We'll start with distance learning and won't return to in-person school until certain metrics are met as far as downward trends in cases / positive case% / icu capacity.
Jigga fyi - not sure if you have kids
Reopening plan - 52 page plan:

Distance learning start voted yes. Pre-K, K, 1st, 6th, 9th grade will return to in-person school first:
"As COVID-19 continues to spread, students in Palm Beach County will start the school year at home with the distance learning methods they been using since March.
When they’ll go back to school buildings remains undecided, but it could be as soon as Aug. 31.
The schedule is subject to change based on the trend of the pandemic, the School Board decided this week. School is scheduled to start Aug. 10.
Prekindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, sixth grade and ninth grade students would come back to classes in person when the county health advisory board deems it safe. Students in second, third, seventh and 10th grade would begin two weeks after that. The remaining grades would return two weeks after that.
Masks will be required on school buses whenever students return. Keith Oswald, the school district’s chief academic officer, said the district is ordering enough washable and reusable masks to give five to each student and disposable ones to keep on hand at schools in case students forget their reusable ones.
The Palm Beach County School Board will vote on an in-person start date next week and then send its reopening plan to the state for approval."
Start of school currently set for August 10th, but going to be delayed, not sure how long:
"PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Parents, the school year in Palm Beach County will be delayed.
But by how long is still unclear.
That's what Dr. Donald Fennoy, the superintendent of the School District of Palm Beach County, said on Thursday morning, just hours after the school board voted 7-0 to start the 2020-21 academic year with distance learning for all students.
"The board's will and pleasure right now is to delay it, and it will be delayed," Fennoy said."
So we can remain distance learning if we want:
Good plan imo
They started the meeting with 6 hours of voicemails.
I'm glad I didn't have to sit through that.
Just enrolled my kid in virtual classes for the first semester.
Our district is giving two options. You can choose a normal schedule or complete distance learning plan.
Seriously, good luck to everyone sending their kids back.
Welp my county just notified us that they are doing online only and no longer offering in person for now.
Are you Gwinnett? My sister is in Hall County and said she thinks they’ll be next. Pretty sure that’s going to start happening everywhere.
Thankfully Target and Walmart have already put out school supplies and backpacks. Not going to be a great year for the kids backpack industry.
rip big backpack
You really have to feel bad about the bulletproof backpack companies.
Yeah I’m in Gwinnett
i suspect our thread of users that have covid will skyrocket come september
Everyone from the teacher thread can join
mcmaster just announced 32 million dollars in CARES funding is going to private schools
The school I work at just installed an AC unit into gym as part of the renovation project this summer. The school gym has been in use for 30 years ...
From what I am hearing Hall and Barrow were just waiting to see what Gwinnett would do and will be making announcements this week. Feel bad for these kids.
GHSA meeting today and this week to figure out Sports for the fall.
Retail in general really going to suffer. Next to Christmas I imagine the Back to School is the biggest spending time.
Duval county took 6 hours to vote on delaying the start of the year 10 days. Still either full in-person or full online.
Wife teaches private but they will follow the county on this...and as long as she has to go in, I have to send the kid.
The fact that my wife's school is doing in-person is dumb af to me btw.
- It's high school, meaning the kids are all old enough to stay home by themselves if the parents are forced to work in-person
- they're all issued iPads so all of their coursework is online already
- because it's a well-to-do private school, most of them are college bound and self-motivators anyway(or their parents are heavily involved in their education)
Feel like everyone is fighting this battle at the moment
County immediately north of my school district pushed the start date back to September 3rd
That's what a lot of schools are doing here. I guess the thinking is the outbreak will be more contained at that point???
kicking the can down the road imo
should just make the call for indefinite distance learning, push the start date back a few weeks, and use that time to get kids connected.
Schools shouldn’t start until at least January. The nation should go on lock down for the next 3 months and there should be a nation wide mask mandate. A stimulus package should be passed of at lease 1200 a month per adult and around 600 per child for the the rest of the year.
with that we could get back to normal. It wouldn’t be that difficult. We could have done this already we could be close to a new normal.
Masks alone would get us at least moving towards a place where we could do testing/tracing/tracking/isolation.
Are you running for election in Nov?
So my wife is starting to seriously consider taking a leave at her job to keep ours at home. Still not really sure how this is going to play out.
Theyll prob push my kids start date back. I want him to go as hes been in day care since May. Not sure how continuing on with the same kids basically is any different. We live in a little podunk town so its not a big school.
Virtual learning for first semester in my district
Just saw that. Please let your families know about Comcast internet essentials. Its free internet for any family on any type of assistance or reduced or free lunches. I do feel bad for some of the kids in the district though as I know many especially the ones in Jackson I work with come from single parents households with a working parent.
Local school district is offering a hybrid approach. Half the students in class two days a week, the other half two different days. Masks fully required. Not sure how to feel about it.
One of my employees sent her kid back to daycare two weeks ago. She has gotten a stomach virus and strep during that time. Covid is only a matter of time at this point.
My wife did this back in March through the end of the school year in June under the FFCRA. It is protected leave and she was paid 2/3 of her salary. Your wife should check it out if she hasn’t already.
