anyway here is the answer Antonia Kennedy Biologist Colleen Shaw Magician Emanuel Dewey Plasterer Gustave Hamilton Flight Attendant
Colleen Shaw is the magician Emmanuel Hamilton is the flight attendant Antonia Kennedy is the biologist Gustave Dewey is the plasterer
This is what I got but I don’t believe there’s enough info here to deduce which of Antonia and Colleen are the magician and biologist.
Hamilton is the flight attendant because Shaw is not a man and Kennedy and Dewey were ruled out. His first name is Gustave because the 2nd statement has Hamilton and Emmanuel as separate people. Shaw’s first name is Colleen because it’s not Antonia. Emmanuel has to be the plasterer because Antonia and Collen were ruled out. His last name is Dewey because Emmanuel is older than Kennedy. Antonia Kennedy isn’t a magician so she’s a biologist. Colleen Shaw is the Magician.
I'm also apparently way dumber than a 5th grader because I was reading this as 7 people (4 deweys and 3 without last names). My kids are SOL
There is. Assuming the OP is trying to help their kid, here’s how you can get the answer. Spoiler: Step 1 set up a logic grid as such: Spoiler: Step 2 From number 1, we know that the flight attendant (F) is a man, so X out Antonia (A) and Colleen (C). We also know (F) is not Dewey (D) or Kennedy (K), so X them out. Spoiler: Step 3 From number 2, know that K is not a Magician, that K is not E, and that E is not H, so X them out. The age is a red herring. Spoiler: Step 4 From number 3, we know that Shaw (S) is a woman, but not A. So C and S go together, and put a O. Then X out the rest of the S column and the C row. We also know that S is not in the building industry, so Xs go in (C,P) and (P,S) Spoiler: Step 5 This leaves us with E and D going together, so put an O and then X out the column. Also, from number 4, we know that A is not P, so place an X. Spoiler: Step 6 Now, because we know that E and D go together, we know that E and F do not, as D and F do not. So an X goes into (E,F) meaning an O goes into (G, F) and you X out the row. The rest is in the next post as I have a few too many pics.
The trick is to x out one or two boxes per clue and go back in circles. Each round you’ll have made another mark that ‘unlocks’ another. At least for me. Spoiler
Spoiler: Step 7 Now we know that F is a man from number 1, so put an X in (F,S) as we know S is a woman. That leaves an O in (F,H) and means an O also goes into (G,H). That gives us our first answer: GHF Spoiler: Step 8 That leaves us with an O in (A,K) and gives all of our names. Spoiler: Step 9 We now know that A goes to with K, but K does not go with M, so AKB becomes the next answer. Spoiler: Final step Finally, C now must got with M, giving us CSM. That leaves EDP as the final answer.
I was about to give up, then I looked thru things a bit more carefully and got it. ANd I don't care if none of y'all believe me. This is crazy that they give it to a 5-year-old 5th grader. I was using a damn excel spreadsheet.
Emmanuel is the flight attendant who is 25, based on clue 1. Kennedy is not the magician and is older than Hamilton but younger than Emmanuel, so Kennedy must be the biologist. Antonia is not the plasterer, so she must be either the magician or the biologist. However, Shaw is not Antonia and is not part of the building industry, so Antonia must be the magician. Finally, Shaw is very good at her work and is not part of the building industry, so she must be the plasterer, and Hamilton is left as the biologist. So the matches are: Antonia is the magician. Colleen is the biologist. Emmanuel is the flight attendant. Gustave is the plasterer.
