John Cochran (former co-owner of Terrapin) has bought Altamont Brewing and will change the name to Upcountry
Sierra Nevada and new belgium facilities are awesome. Downtown I also like twin leaf, hi wire, brhamari, one world. The food at burial is good, menu is small. I really like blue dream curry house, been twice in the last week. Just ate at nine mile which I also highly recommend. If you're looking for liquor, I like Asheville yacht club
Is it better than the biscuithead or sunny pointe cafe? Those are the two I've seen the most of about.
Trying to help a guy plan a bachelor party to Asheville in October. Have had very little luck finding a decent size house for rent that is not 30-45+ min outside of town. Thinking about trying to talk the groom into a different location.
I don't think it's a bachelor party kind of town, unless the bachelor party is hiking and drinking craft beer.
That's what I said when I was told the location. I think the guys pretty set on it for god knows what reason though.
I did have some bomb huevos rancheros at over easy when I went a few years ago, but nothing is better than biscuithead.
It isn't. I had originally planned on having my bachelor trip in Asheville due to proximity to most of the guys. About two months before the trip, I called an audible and we went to GOAT bachelor trip destination New Orleans instead.
I am shopping around for destinations for my own bachelor party next year and actually was looking at Asheville but some of my buddies have said New Orleans. Just curious what makes it the GOAT and I will listen.
New Orleans is great for the people who like strip clubs, casinos, bars that are open all night, and good food. All there and easily accessible. It can be kind if a pain money wise to get to, depending on where you're coming from Should check out charleston too imo
I was on a brewery cruise tour in Asheville in January and there was two bachelorette parties and two bachelor parties. Ended up being a really nice weekend but I was a little lost why they planned them then. They all seemed to be having fun though, but probably better places to go unless it's a very laid back group. Nashville and Charleston exponentially better options. Never done New Orleams but I'm sure it's right there with those two.
I was really hoping he was going to pick Charleston, I love any excuse to get back down there. Most of the group I think would prefer Charleston or somewhere like New Orleans, the groom seems stuck on wanting to do Asheville though. I may try and get up there a day early to fish, anyone have any recommendations on guides or somewhere to go on your own?
Why Charleston? I mean I love going there with the best friend but seems a little sleepy for a bachelor party.
I love this city. Want to move here. Hit up a lot of breweries but still have some to get to. Arkadin blue dream curry house was phenomenal last night. Highly recommend to anyone who likes curry. At wicked weeds pub now and going to white duck tacos in a few and Nightbell tonight. Last night here and kinda sad about that because it's amazing here.
it and Charleston are 1a/1b on my wishlist when I move in <2yrs living in Spartanburg we'd drive to Asheville just for the day once or twice a month, was always great. sitting outside on a nice day, at the downstairs bar of Wicked weed, was likely my favorite thing to do in Asheville
Nightbell is the tits. Get at least one of their deviled eggs. It's a play on a deviled eggs and its fucking fantastic.
Went on our annual dudes weekend this past weekend and rented a house on 42 acres in Weaverville that slept 12. House is incredible, very well priced and 20 minutes on the dot to downtown. I can PM if your boy is still interested.
also, food at LAB is pretty damn good. beer is decent. had a good Biere de Garde last month... I miss Asheville. :(
Headed to Asheville (well outside Hendersonville) this weekend. Any recommendations for good hikes in the area? Looking for easier trails because we will have a couple older folks.
DuPont State Forest is not far and has some very easy hikes. Especially the High Falls and Triple Falls trails. Mills River is pretty close and you have some easy trails along the South Mills River, the State Park you have to pay for and I've never been there. Flat Rock Wood Room in Hendersonville is a decent place to eat. http://www.dupontforest.com/
This being the Asheville thread and Wicked Weed being in Asheville, if anyone is around the area today through this weekend, grab a "Juiceless" bottle or thirty. It's a collab IPA with Creature Comforts (small Athens, GA) brewery. It's unbelievable. I just got back from a work trip there today and got a nice haul.
Need to get together for beer soon And yes, grab a Juiceless for me if possible. Will pay in various forms of currency.
Let's say a guy was set to propose to his bff this weekend at the beach. Let's say this same guy's perfect plan has been derailed by this stupid fucking hurricane and he is know having to call a serious audible which is a trip to Asheville. Any recommendations of spots (no restaurants) where said fellow could get down on one knee?

Biltmore is going to be the popular rec. Straight across from the front of it there's a little hill/green space with some architecture that could be a good more secluded spot away from most the crowd. Can just walk to it from the house. Other option is the gardens right on the grounds too.
Sounds like this city has brought mixed romantic fortunes to TMB. I once started a thread asking for reccs there bc I was taking my gf for her bday and we broke up that Sunday over brunch Would recommend not proposing at Early Girl for bad juju reasons
Was just in Asheville with my bff this past weekend. We did the Biltmore tour, hiked the 1.5 miles to the Craggy Garden overlook, drove the Blue Ridge Parkway up to Mount Mitchell, and then hiked Triple Falls and High Falls. You could definitely propose at the overlook at Craggy Gardens, it has an unbelievable 360 view of the mountains or propose during sunset at the Grove Park Inn's Sunset Terrace. In regards to restaurants....we ate at Curate, Biscuit Head, Tupelo Honey, Sierra Nevada, and then the restaurant at the Grove Park Inn. Curate was the best dinner we had and Biscuit Head was the best brunch/lunch. Wicked Weed and Sierra Nevada were dope too. Let me know if you have any questions.
I don't even have a gf so this is kind of immaterial...but thinking about stuff like that always scares the shit out of me. I'd be terrified I'd somehow drop the ring
Thanks. Was the Craggy overlook trail crowded? It looks great but I'm hoping for a little bit of privacy Also any suggestions for the dinner afterwards? Obviously something nice- its once in a lifetime so I won't mind splurging.
When we reached the top of the Craggy there were probably 5-6 other people up there. I'm sure it all depends on what time of day you decide to make the hike. We got to the overlook around 11:30 AM or so. The overlook is a 1.5 mile round trip hike from the parking lot. In regards to dinner, Curate was great but we also had dinner on the terrace at the Grove Park Inn which is more of a traditional, high-end steakhouse type menu. We each had two glasses of wine at Curate with six different dishes and that set me back around $160. The Grove Park Inn meal was closer to $250-300. You'll need reservations at either.
I did it at the sunset cliffs in San Diego last year. Was more worried about either one of us falling off than the ring. Also had it insured before we even left so I could afford to yolo.
Probably going to take my wife back for her birthday before Christmas like we did last year. We stayed in a pretty cool Airbnb last year for $190 per night. Seems like the prices have skyrocketed for both Airbnb and hotels. May just use credit card points to stay at the Windsor. Anyone stayed there? Looks pretty sweet.
