Video review goes way too godamn far. That's like video reviewing pass interferance in football. Now screwed out of two goals in a week.
The entire lead up to that was a ref with a slant towards Red Bulls. Obvious in here. Little calls and no calls. Culminates with that shit fest in the last 20mins...Sabtoaged an otherwise fun match between two good teams. Fun atmosphere considering time and weather.
Every single goal, pk and red card is reviewed by the VAR. if they deem there is a “clear and obvious error” in giving or not giving those 3 things then they enter into the review. The official doesn’t have to go to the monitor to reverse the call, I’ve seen them reverse it by what the VAR offices tells them in their earpiece. What no commentator understands is that once a review has been initiated then all aspects of that play can be reviewed. So they may say “that’s not a PK but a yellow card outside the box” and even though yellow cards are not reviewable the official can still give it if he sees it in the review. So in reviewing the goal the VAR saw Longs heals get clipped, buzzed the official and tells him he was tripped, he runs over, see contact, calls a foul and takes away the goal. Bottom line, if Sporting KC hall of famer and USMNT great Tony Meola says it was a good call then it was a good call.
An “error” by the official with his original call. If it’s debatable that he got the call right then technically it shouldn’t be reviewed. I think calling a foul there is correct but I don’t think it’s “clearly and obviously” a foul.
Did the ref not give the hook sign? I thought he was gone for a minute until he went to pull the yellow.
