I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like ACL has lost some its appeal over the years and this year was probably my last. The bathroom setup made for an easier time for guys (piss troughs) but just led to 20 assholes a minute cutting the line and everyone getting upset. Cashless didn't work and was a mess on Friday for all the people who didn't bring other options. Felt oversold again and the new stage next to Honda was aimed the wrong way and fucked up the acoustics. Weather was great and had fun, but maybe I have just been too many times including when the atmosphere just had a different vibe.
Saw an article about all the people with those inflatable couches taking up entirely too much space and agree... put that fucking thing up when the concert starts or move back behind the crowd since you obviously don't give a shit about seeing the actual concert. I've only been to the last 4 but 2013 and 2014 > 2015 and >>>>>> 2016. might just be the music genres or me getting older or a combination of a lot of things Always been more of a rock/rap guy and not a huge DJ fan although I've had a blast at some of them. Just feel like this year they sold out to get a few big names and the undercard was really not good. Again different strokes for different folks music taste wise but I wasn't psyched about going any of the 3 days like I had been the previous 3 years I couldn't wait to get down there each day. Bathrooms I had no complaints after realizing that you just don't fucking go to the one by the food court. One by the Samsung/Homeaway stage was extremely quick and great. I'll still go every year until I just can't do it anymore but I'll never buy tickets when they go on sale again. Knew it when I bought them but did it anyways that it never fails to get down to $150-175 for 3 day passes and was disappointed I bought one for $275 and barely even went on Friday
i didn't know they had this. I think their burrito is the best food option on lower burnet. enjoyed ACL w1, but has been better in years past. I probably woudn't go next year unless 1) lineup is way better or 2) much more of my friends come in to for it. add a few more food windows/cash registers. not options, just lines to move the crowd quickly. Shuttle from Republic square took forever, on friday at noon no less. Way better to pay $12 for the rideshare and get dropped off at lamar/barton springs or Austin high. cashless worked fine for me, but some bartenders continued to ask for IDs (timesuck) for people who already had wristbands. pretty sure the ratio of guys to girls in the men's room at any given time was 10:1, they just didn't care. Piss troughs were super fast, but i think there were 4 stations in each segment, but rarely would 4 guys go and fill each one at the same time.
One of the wristbands was legitimately worthless. I was told it was "so cops wouldn't stop you at something something" can't remember the last part just remember staring blankly at her like she said a drivers license didn't let you drive a car. I think red was worthless and white was an actual over 21 identifier. But you only got the correct one in the beer hall. Stupid as fuck
Went with a big group to Evangeline's last night for a bday dinner down on Brodie. 1) don't take a group 2) do go there and take a date Hole in the wall Real small Fire creole food Live music every night (jazz) BYOBottles of wine Could bring 2 bottles of 3 buck chuck and get hammered on a date while eating Great food and listening to good music for ~$30. And it's just got that cool feel to it like "the locals go there/nobody knows about it" which is cool to me
Going to Fright Fest on Sunday. Pretty excited we got a group of like 20 people going GRiZ, Cherub, Texas State homecoming , and danny brown next week. Rebelution, Head and the Heart, halloween, Perpetual Groove the next weekend Jamestown Revival, Lettuce, Wurstfest the next weekend may be dead by this point
Started as a food truck here then expanded into brick and mortar tin addition to that then rest is history.
Nope I've gotten it from the food truck. Maybe they did away with it. Choice of protein, kimchi, cheese, spices and served with a thin reddish sauce and a zesty mayo type sauce for dipping
Just checked chilantro menu and it's totally different from when I had it but granted it was a while ago
Thinking about having my bachelor party in Austin around February. Thoughts or suggestions? I live in Florida fwiw and flights arent too bad ~$200.
push it back to the 2nd week in March and you'll be here for SXSW which is neat february is a good time too as it's "fall" weather outside normally. 60s instead of 100s
I cant say I concur with my colleague here. Coming during SXSW will ensure you pay out the ass for any accommodation and have to deal with insane traffic and crowds everywhere worth going.
yea but he's not coming with his wife on a weekend getaway to do touristy shit. bachelor party... it's like going to the beach during spring break instead of 3 weeks after spring break with a big group of dudes. one is a setup for getting loose goose. the other is just a standard beach trip. just the way I look at it for bachelor parties.
While I do like the idea of being there for SXSW I think it would be a little harder/more expensive to coordinate something when its going to be 10-12 of us. Looking at staying in an airbnb around downtown, would that be the best place? Also big into craft beer so will head out to Jester King at some point but don't know about any others in the area. Tell me places to party plz Oh an food, love good food. Def going to Torchy's.
how many nights you in town? Also torchy is somewhat overhyped imo, you can go there for lunch one day but dont go overboard
Yeah not making it a huge thing just wanna see what all the fuss is about. Probably just the weekend so Fri-Sun/Mon, Feb 24th-26th.
doing a big dinner or anything somewhere fancy? that'd help with the food rec if you know what kind of cuisine you'd like to do. there's so many damn places to eat here it's tough just to throw out generic suggestions. I always suggest Uchi (Uchiko probably for a group that big) because I love japanese and it's amazing but pretty pricey. if you stay downtown (def recommend that), there's several breweries in the area. Can't even name all of them. When it gets closer to February could probably give you some of the social shit to do. There's alway something if you know what websites to look at
Tony Ray Bans you see GRiZ on Wednesday? One of the best shows I've seen from that genre. Got a large rowdy crew getting loose tonight for Cherub at Stubbs. Pregame liquor pitcher at Shakespeare's
Most definitely. He crushed it. Kind of wish it had been 21+ so as to avoid all the high school kids rolling balls and getting thrown out but for the most part it was super kick ass
"Shoreline Theater" or whatever the name of the outdoor setup on the front lawn of the Long Center is pretty great. Those Austin views.
irrationally upset that I missed the memo on the Austin Symphony doing a Nightmare before Christmas show tomorrow night. projector screen and all. coping with it by purchasing great seats for their Pixar in Music show in February. debating on going to check out some of the random shit they have there during the holidays like a shakespeare play that starts in mid november. haven't been to a play since highschool but the older i get the more i think i'd enjoy it. granted i'd absolutely take some edibles and drink lots of wine. but it would be a fun date
I feel like they are all kin of similarly mediocre. Tend to work pretty well, at least for the most part, on standard or off nights. They also all equally suck dick on big nights. Saturday before Halloween they were effectively useless. NYE is gonna be a shit show this year
Finally decided to try and holler at one of these beautiful lady specimens at Pure a few weeks ago. Everything going better than expected. Still need to do that weekday TMB drink meet and greet. If people would stop scheduling the 20th Christmas party of the month I could get out for a while.
