I have this entire week off, and a ton of free time. I should try and do more touristy shit this week
Yup I've been riding the struggle bus for a few weeks Really need to be better about taking allergy meds
i take the daily shit from costco. and even then it is a guarantee that if I sleep with my contacts in right now I'll wake up and have eye crust that will burn with the wrath of 1000 suns if I accidentally rub it into my eye. burns for probably 3 hours with watering and also gets sinus shit flowing. unreal. also had hives for about 2 weeks sporadically ~3-4 days a week. Never had allergies before but it's my 4th year here and apparently Cedar Fever kicks in around year 3-5 in Austin. fuck this shit. actually enjoyed being in AL for christmas for a week because I had zero allergy problems. came back at 6pm last night. rubbed eyes this morning. just stopped watering a little while ago
i always love the smug just moved here and dont understand why you all are suffering folks when they finally hit their first year of it
I made it about 6 years before it hit me, that first time was pretty much the worst 6 weeks of my life
Coming to ATX in April for a wedding. One of my favorite cities in America. Staying in Rainey St. area. Looking for a nice dinner or brunch recommendation. Went to Jacoby's last time... looking for something similar.
will be attending random shit on weeknights when all logic points to it being a terrible idea will be popping addy the next morning after said weeknights to keep from feeling like death
fucking A it's crawfish season already and they're decent sized too. went to shoal creek saloon last saturday and had 3lbs, corn, potatoes, sausage and a bucket of beers. outstanding. go before 1pm though especially if you want to sit outside in this #blessed 70 degree weather. there was a serious wait when we were leaving at ~3:30. day drank after ^^^ saturday afternoon on Rainey. Lustre Pearl and Bar 96 had so much talent the girl that came with our crew told us we all had staring problems. Don't care. so hot. going back this saturday and probably taking dogs with us. if you like jamestown revival - google "woofstock" = pair of tickets to a show at Oscar Blues for donating pet supplies this saturday or next saturday at designated shelters
Booked an Air BNB at Red River and 5th and emailed Moonshine Grill about bringing a big party in on Friday night. They don't take reservations so I earmarked Second Bar and Kitchen and El Naranjo as backups from the Austin Eater Essential 38. Any other suggestions?
haha i love those stories. I have a former colleague who gets an artist badge every year through a weird situation from years ago.
Hey ATXers(?) -- I'm coming in tomorrow morning and will be there until Monday/Tuesday. I'm visiting a friend, but she's only lived there for two months so not really depending on her for much. I only checked the last couple pages and the OP, so not sure if there is more of a visitor's guide/recommendations list posted somewhere or not. Basically looking for a few things: Good BBQ - would love to try Franklins, but not wasting a few hours in line since I won't be here for that long Day drinking spots on Friday/Saturday with a good outdoor vibe. Quality craft beer selection would be a bonus. Wouldn't mind doing some people watching Bars Cheap dinner spots Any must see local outdoor exhibits/attractions/museums (idk, shit like that) I'm simply stopping in Austin on my way out to the west coast and then Australia/New Zealand. Since I'll be backpacking for a while and quit my job, trying to keep costs down for the U.S. portions of my trip. Should I try to hit up Torchy's? Kinda upset I missed my chance in Denver a few months ago, but I was running late for my flight.
will need pics and relationship status of friend before divulging any information. Thanks in advance for complying
Good BBQ in the city: Cooper's, Terry Black's, La Barbecue Day drinking: Rainey Street, Banger's for craft beer Other bars: Wanna be fancy? Peche, Roosevelt Room. Cheap beer drankin': Little Woodrow's, Bar 96, Violet Crown Cheap dinner: Well, Torchy's is a good option. Food trucks on east 6th. Must see shit: Bullock Museum (cause Texas loves us some Texas), you like nature? We got lots of nature shit
BBQ I think the consensus is (probably in order of best>worst) : Micklethwait Craft Meats, LA BBQ, Browns, Blacks or Terry Blacks (I like both) Valentina's (further south away from DT, Kerlin, Freedmen's, Stiles Switch, Lamberts. Austin.eater.com is pretty helpful with food Day Drinking outside.... fuck that's a lot of options here. Saturday: go to Rainey Street. Bar 96, Lustre Pearl, Craft Pride (has Via 313 pizza in the back real good and a wall of TX beers on tap), Clive Bar. Sunday: if you want a pretty famous outdoor brunch spot also on rainey street - Bangers if you get there before the line. Brunch is pretty fire, they have live jazz music, mostly outdoors, "Manmosa" = whole bottle of champagne + OJ in a giant mug. I'd start off your Sunday there. Then just get dangerous and go to Kung Fu on West and go whore fishing. it's an arcade bar that's half inside/outside. has your typical bar games plus a ton of arcade games. Is in the middle of West which if you're 25-35 and like the traditional non-hipster people you'll be in the right place. If you're more "left leaning" and prefer tatted up hipster chicks (tinder thread weimer girls) Go to the east side... someone else will have to fill you in on the where to's there. Not my cup of tea. Also generally like Dogwood, Little Woodrows, and Steampunk Saloon on West 6th. Early Saturday (pre-4pm) it's not as happening and Rainey is the better option. Bars... see above. Weekends are pretty much an all-day/all-night thing. If you're into kind of a southern rock feel - Saturday night Mickey and The Motorcars is playing at Antone's downtown. If you want cunty cocktail bars I can give you a couple but it sounds like you're not going that route which is fine they're more date spots. Cheap Dinner - pick your tex mex or go to Do512.com and look up happy hour / reverse happy hour. Bar Chi has a bomb reverse happy hour (~9-12pm) sushi.
was gonna suggest these two plus Half Step on Rainey for cunty cocktail bars. Love going to these places and just talking to the bartender for a little bit about what I like and letting him/her come up with something.
She's a girl who I met here in Tampa while she was going to school. Banged her a couple times. She graduated, worked in Tampa for about a year, then moved to Austin. Red hair with freckles. Small, very small. She's cute, not hot. Also, as for cheap dinner, I don't mean like $10. I didn't want recs for highly rated places that also happened to be $30+ per entree if you know what I mean. It really hurts for me to say that because whenever I go on vacation I absolutely splurge on food/booze.
Love doing this. Went to Seattle last year and had a couple drinks at Canon (recently ranked top 10 bar in the world). I'm fine with grabbing a cunty cocktail, just didn't want that to be a place I spent $75 to get drunk at. Also, as you mentioned in your other post, I feel like those bars tend to be more date-centric, and I'm in Austin trying to get ripped. Would love to pick up something at the bars, not sure how well that would go over with the friend though.
Thanks for the recs. I love nature shit, but with the time restraints I didn't want to spend 5+ hours hiking/walking a trail/canoeing/etc. when I could be getting drunk. Also, is there a clear delineation between the UT crowd and the post grad/early 30s crowd? Or do those bars and areas of town crossover? Girl I'm visiting is still relatively fresh out of college, while I'm an old man (29). However, I still rip it like I'm 23.
Anyone have a good line on a finance job/finance recruiters/good companies to work for? Been considering more seriously moving to Austin.
Post-Grad erring on the frat side of the spectrum is definitely West 6th Post-Grad on the more hipster side East 6th (east of I-35, NOT the following option) Students and alcoholics looking for cheap as fuck drinks and really slutty whores in a Bourbon Street type atmosphere: "Dirty 6th" which is 6th street inbetween the other 2. If you go down this route... and lets be honest it CAN be fun as a motherfucker - Maggie Mae's, Blind Pig, and Shakespears is the trifecta. all right beside one another. Shakes has $5 long island pitchers and $7 liquor pitchers (mini pitchers). It's definitely a come one come all ages deal though as far as 21+. the 18-19 year old crowd is probably just Dirty due to leniency of ID's. Speaking of Rainey Street on Saturday.... https://www.bangersaustin.com/events-calendar-2/2017/2/4/saint-arnold-rainey-street-pub-crawl Probably will be there myself since the last Rainey pubcrawl ~2 weeks ago I saw more hot girls in 3 hours at Bar96 and Lustre Pearl than my dick could handle. it was surreal even for Austin standards. Going to eat Shoal Creek crawfish at 1 and probably head to Rainey afterwards
DuffandMuff the rideshare that's best here is RideAustin app. "For austin. By austin". I like to call it FUBUber
$7 liquor pitchers? It's like Tallahassee all over again. I think I'll at leave have to make a stop there then. If that's true about the Rainey pubcrawl then I may see you there. I'll probably be in pastel shorts, solid color T, and loafers from Aldo. I'm sure that'll really stick out.
