Roots thing that I was in line for cancelled due to a security concern, heard it was a bomb threat :-/
This was supposed to be a joke about how weak Michelob Ultra is, instead it’s just evidence of my functional alcoholism
Went to Fukumoto last night. Very good. Reasonably priced. Happy hour all night on Tuesday. Had some Wu chow-esque green beans and fried chicken that were fantastic. Sashimi/Nigiri solid too. Only thing that was weird. They serve their sake in these cups that basically looked like oversized dipping sauce things. Kinda shitty presentation. Going to Cirque Eloize tomorrow at Long center. Edibles will be consumed prior to admission
Chick I went out with last night / tomorrow’s apartment balcony faces Stubbs amphitheater. Says the apartment has triple pane glass (and made a great Ace Ventura reference) but if you open the balcony door / sit on the balcony you’re basically at the show - sound wise. Assets
That would be an awesome place to live As long as you could really block the sound when you wanted to
Tatsuya guys took over Teriyaki Madness lease right next to me. I will be able to walk to new Tatsuya, T-22, Local Post, Tacodeli, Juiceland, and right by Barley Swine and Bufalina. Not bad for living 8 miles north of downtown
Place got graffiti’d real bad last week. Just black cursive garbage. Real cool. Just got a Giant piece of plywood on it right now
Speaking of Tatsuya - going to Kemuri tomorrow night. Big fan. I feel like Loro is going to be impossible to get into for months.
Gonna attempt a solo dinner at the bar to try and get in after a couple weeks. Probably the best bet unless they are on open table Might do the same for Perry’s Easter special. $35 for a salad, pork chop (assuming Friday lunch portion not full) and dessert. Can’t beat that if going solo and can get out for $45 instead of $100-120 with a date/drinks
Jinya fit the bill but tatsuya sets the standard for me. I’ll fuck with Michi if I want ramen but need to favor. No matter what I’m living that extra ajitama life.
Where should I live downtown? Ashton? Monarch? I just want something nice and quiet and walkable. Debating between 1br vs 2br but don't want to pay more than 3k in rent. Only going to do it for 6 months or so to make sure I like everything before I buy something.
Lived at Monarch from January 16 to last July. Good spot. Place is nice and management + concierge guys are real cool. Good amenities and 24-hr. Good stuff within short walkinng distance. Quiet as far as the residents aren’t loud with parties and walls are super thick. Only drawbacks are the pool gets like 1hr of Sun a day and the 6th Street noise can be bad around 1-2:30am if you’re on the east side of the building. Also not sure how’s you are with privacy and general interaction preferences but the setup basically feels like you’re living in a hotel. I got tired of the random walk to get something out of my car being a 5-10 minute venture where I probably had to talk to a couple people. And owning a dog there was a lot of extra work
Mandala got me fucked up last night. Still in their “soft opening” phase and don’t get their TABC until today. Which i guess means you can serve people as long as it’s free. Giving everyone one complimentary drink/wine/beer. Martini was the only liquor drink. Was pretty much a chilled glass of vodka. Bar manager came over to chat and told her I lived across the street and would be a regular (egg roles and pad kee mow were fantastic) so she gave me a 2nd cold glass of vodka. Big fan
Will be in town Thursday-Sunday. Staying at the Sheraton by the capital Thurs and Fri, probably going to get a room at the W Sat. Here for a course until sat afternoon then apartment hunting sat and sunday. Faking my GPS so I can try and set up a Bumble date for somewhere fancy like uchi or something and trying to wine/dine/hotel bang. If I can't pull that off I'm down to hang. I promise I won't flake on you TLAU like last time.
Going to west tonight. Every hot girl I know and/or follow in IG has been posting stories from Rustic Tap lately. Gonna go see if they’re looking to mingle 1st Thursday last night had an overwhelming number of beautiful girls. Never been more upset about taking a date somewhere. Never again
TBH for what it is the Music is too loud. Place they put the band just traps sound and the second the band is done the DJ comes on you really gotta fuckin yell at people to talk. Inside lobby bar is tight though. Definitely saw a couple girls that were pros in there too. By yourself dressed way too skanky standing in one spot all night w no drink. Dudes come up every couple minutes and walk away after 1-2min. Diet version of the W bar hookers
Be prepared to feel old. Lots of 18-22yo chicks. But hot ones in bikinis that are down to do recreational drugs and get naked
Anyone ever been to Haymaker? Apparently it's the Austin Chelsea bar and was thinking of heading there for the FA Cup semi next Sunday. We were planning to hit Banger's for brunch when it opened since it seems..uhh...popular. Match is at 9. Is it even worth trying to get into Banger's at that point on a Sunday if we get there around 11:30? We were just going to walk around Zilker for a bit and hit a couple breweries in the afternoon so I don't care about waiting for an hour or so but not really in the mood for more than that.
