It really is. A bit of north bookending downtown area. A buddy with two kids lives there and loves it. Feels comfortable walking/biking to places.
I office in the domain (wework) and live at 35th and mopac. It’s a reverse commute. 10 to 15 minutes from driveway to office chair and same amount of time home. I will say that on way home at 6 pm - leave office right at 6 - that it is totally smooth until the 35th exit and then it gridlocks. My guess is that if you live on the west side of downtown it’s a 30 minute commute home and 15 minute commute to work. A guy that works for me lives in mueller. He said the commute sucks balls. I wouldn’t recommend living there.
This is true There’s traffic here but it’s not at the point of major big cities and the drivers here are more polite and considerate
Looks like downtown to domain would take less than 20 minutes right now if you go Mopac. Not bad at all.
I currently travel 12 miles from work to home. That drive consistently takes me 30-45 minutes, with some days pushing closer to an hour.
Gonna be glorious today and tomorrow Shame that public expectation is to wear pants in public and at work
I can’t speak to rush hour as I work from home, but my last office job took me 45 minutes both ways to get from North Austin to downtown. Now, in non-peak hours, I can get from home to parked downtown in under 20 minutes, so the city is actually fairly accessible outside of rush hour.
It may be a small sample size, but I think the toll lane has helped Mopac a lot. Like, during rush hour going south, I’d hit standstill traffic at 2222, now it’s 35th
I will say mopac is much better than previous experiences over past couple years The construction was a nightmare but much better now
Sheeeeit. The only person I know in Austin is pushing me towards living downtown. What are the best places for a 30 year old single guy who still enjoys going out at least a few nights a week. My friend is a mid 20s female so we’re not exactly looking through the same glasses.
What’s the point in living in Austin if you’re living in a development that’s completely indistinguishable from any other city? Throw yourself into that shit.
I’ve been every year since 2008, cause I’m not willing to accept that I’m old and uncool Might drop in Saturday or Sunday, dependent on the weather
I need to break down and sign a lease, this RE market is gross south of the river and north of 71. Any apartment complex recs on South Lamar/South Congress? Need to stay close to DT cuz I'm constantly late for work. Gonna try to look at a place at Windsor, Union, Gibson Flats over the weekend. TIA
Was about 35-40 minutes going back the other way this afternoon. Not great. Maybe I'll counter their initial offer with a sky high price and if they bite, I'll just suck it up and count my money during bumper to bumper rush hour hell.
Yeah, it’s trash. Austin is a really amazing city, though, and I can’t recommend it stronger. We also have a good FSU club! If I can help in anyway or answer any questions about ANYTHING DM me.
Appreciate it. I'll be making my final decision by Monday at the latest. If I decide to pull the trigger I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions.
Only problem with TxTag is there is no dedicated exit for the domain on the express lane. You can only take it for one segment north of downtown then you have to get over with the peasant folk.
Looks like local ownership is buying Columbus and Austin is getting one of the outstanding expansion bids That’s fine
Agree on commute not being worth it. At 30yo and single though (depending on housing prices up there and your budget) I wouldn’t live between or “around the domain” just go all in and live at a place in the actual domain complex/development so you’re walking everywhere when you go out there and only time you drive/Uber is to go downtown or elsewhere. Really takes the dating game up one more level when you: 1- have a place for the girl to park that she’ll return to at some point where you live and/or 2- take the “going back to your place” out of the equation essentially bc neither of you has to get an Uber or drive back there just a romantic stroll at 2am. Expert level unlocked if you have a dog you can mention for either 1 or 2 but kinda takes the challenge out of it. Also if doggo factor applies being able to walk to the pretty much all dog friendly establishments with a pup makes being new in town a lot easier.
