Lake Travis boaters have been the epitome of buying boats to make up for other deficiencies for over 20 years now. Surprised more people don't die on that lake
my apartment's a/c hasn't cooled lower than 79-80 degrees over this weekend. and i still am not really unpacked so my lights are mostly off and i am running just a laptop and an xbox. any ideas what resources i have as a tenant here? they've told me before that the a/c is really dependent on total usage in the building but i signed a lease with a/c promised and it seems broken af right now. my poor dog is panting in the place.
Also I'm sure you know this but be careful about taking your dog for a walk in the heat. My friends ridgeback just barely made it after a 17k vet bill.
nope. all blinds are drawn sans one, that is about 25% open. i literally have a single light on and my place can't get cooler than 78 at 9 pm.
is there an apt or anything below you? I had one a while back that had a garage under me and I couldnt get it below 80 in the summers and that was with the ac running constantly.
i'm on the 4th floor. so there's 3 apts below me and i assume they're all occupied. what did you do when you couldn't get your old apt below 80? deal with it? talk to mgmt and get a discount on rent?
I moved. also sounds dumb, but check your filters. can make a big difference on how hard your making the ac work.
Well he went into DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation). That's bad. I personally am amazed he made it because when people go into DIC they almost always die.
Gonna throw some (limited) pub at some taco joints for those looking to find some eats or new to the area: El Primo tacos on S. 1st and Oltorf (Hula Hu parking lot next to Once Over coffee) has been my nutrition for 50% of my meals since I moved back to S. Congress. B or lunch tacs are great. Love most anything I’ve tried (bean and cheese b taco was meh). They’ve got a couple picnic tables right by the truck if you wanna grab a coffee from Once Over or topo/beer from Hula Hu. Con Madre on Oltorf toward 35 (next to the gas station by Curras) goes hard as well. I usually run into a line of construction workers during lunchtime on weekdays, but I take it as a good sign. Not meant racist in the least. You can favor/door dash/Uber eats (not all, but at least one of them), but they have outdoor picnic tables to socially distance and eat in and food comes pretty quick. They don’t have it on their trailer menu, but they serve carnitas tacos that are great. Not a taco joint, but El Habanero (or the Hab) is a cash only spot at S. 1st and Oltorf with some great Mexican cuisine. I think the barbacoa is the best in town (other than Mickelwait’s smoked barbacoa which isn’t traditional). Ask for the habanero sauce if you like spicy. They aren’t dine in at the moment but you can call in or just show up to take home (showing up takes maybe 10 min to get food). I was on the east side for a year, so getting reconnected to my spots down here and would appreciate any and all new recs on this side of town. I love my spots and Pueblo viejo at Cosmic, but am always looking to try new tacs.
Id ask your other neighbors if they are having similar issues. seems like there would be some potential liability issues for the complex if ac wasnt working and they just said 'welp other people in the building are using it too'
Favorite burger in Austin? I'm making my way through some of these lists but JewBoy is #1 in my stomach, heart and arteries.
A buddy and I are coming to town this Friday, and neither of us have ever been to Austin. Is Franklin's doing takeout right now or do you have to order ahead? What's the best place for college football watching, Arkansas/Georgia game in particular. And a list of the best patios to check out would be appreciated also!
Still takeout. Not sure of the Arkansas bar but Edwin's on 6th is the UGA bar. Cover 2 and Cover 3 aren't bad to watch games
Franklin is still doing takeout-only (curbside) so you're all set there. Not sure on Arky bars here but pre-COVID (last time I went to a bar) my go-to patios were Lustre Pearl, Easy Tiger (downtown location), Friends and Allies, Central Machine Works and Craft Pride
By takeout, can we just walk up and order or is it all online ordering? Its not real clear on their website. I appreciate all the recs too!
You can go ahead and put in your order now. I would do it ASAP because it will close when its sold out and people maybe go hard on the ordering because of football. Usually you need to order at least 3 days out. Online only.
Edwin’s is no mas unfortunately. I’d stay away from dirty 6th altogether. Feel like a rony factory. west 6th has plenty of good patio bars. Star Bar, Rustic Tap, etc. Lavaca St. Bar is one of my favorites and they opened a back patio last year. Typically a Wisconsin bar, so don’t have to worry about their game being on.
I've heard Lavaca from multiple people. Any places that would let us bring in out takeout Franklin's? Or just take it to a park or something to eat?
In a normal world, I can’t see any of the DT sports bars caring about bringing food in. Lavaca has a (really good) seafood and fried chicken spot with a walk up window. So maybe they’d say something but I really doubt it. The kicker is that I think all of these bars are only open because they put a fryer in to commit accounting fraud and call themselves a restaurant. Franklin and the places mentioned itt aren’t particularly close to each other, so maybe not the greatest idea to wait that long between eating. From what I’ve gathered, bars downtown are table service only, so be prepared for a likely less than quick process to get into these places.
They are but if you drive past Bufords, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and some of those its absolutely packed.
We frequent the Lavaca St. @ The 704 outpost and really like it. Torchy's is next door and they have the food truck inside as well so you really can't go wrong with that location.
