I know this doesn't make sense to most people, but most of this shit is exactly what the psycho type A P5 Football coaches want.
I like the geography argument. If it were even remotely important to a coach’s decision, none of the playoff teams from the past four years or so would be worth a shit and San Jose State would be a powerhouse.
Certainly you understand nuance and are just being obtuse to try to make a point. Geography isn't everything but it would play a role in deciding between two similar jobs. Auburn is obviously in a more fertile recruiting territory but you're also dealing with 20+ programs fighting for that same talent. At the same time, regional talent is becoming less and less important in major CFB.
Recruiting territory is extremely important, I agree. My impression is that you weren’t referring to that, but instead suggesting that the cultural and social appeal of Oregon would be great enough to dissuade someone from leaving Eugene for Auburn by comparison, which I have yet to see a great deal of evidence to support.
Recruiting in Alabama, Georgia, Florida > Oregon, California, Washington. Also we just wrote a massive check to a coach because he threatened to go to Arkansas a couple years ago.
It was true for us. Kirby had him unpaid helping us in 2018. Was not allowed to be on staff per conference.
Auburn is easily a better job than Oregon, Auburn isn’t “Alabama”’ as corch is using it and it’s less than two hours to Atlanta
Ok but that still doesn't come close to the area we recruit in. Cristobal will be at a place that can go into Florida and get kids if he comes here. We used to pull kids every year from there until Gus fucked it up.
Mixing up a few issues. Buyout money comes from boosters pockets, not AD revenues. There is still money to pay players. Most committed schools are already doing it
Sure. Its a factor of best recruiting grounds with the toughest competition for recruits or good recruiting grounds with much less competition for recruits. Arguments could be made either way what a coach like Mario would prefer.
You put a lot of weight into his 1-11 first year at FIU? (An improvement on the previous year, mind you)
If cristobal gets a mega contract from auburn, him and taggart got to chip in and buy Justin Herbert a beach house or something.
Going 11-1 gets you into the playoffs 8 out of 10 years. Is it easier to go 11-1 at Auburn or 11-1 at Oregon?
Yeah let’s go into the ultimate blood bath of recruiting region where Auburn probably isn’t even a top 5 destination when he can be in a shit conference with a bunch of shit recruiters to compete against. Maybe if ucla and usc got their shot together, this would be a discussion but otherwise no way.
