Bad Police Thread - where calling the police is a gamble

I think the lesson of this story is that bodycams are great. And we should be deeply suspicious when bodycams are turned off prior to some questionable policing.

 

I'll start tagging you to get your opinion. Lets start with the two I posted just from last page. Thoughts?

You know I love you. We've been fucking off on here for a decade together. I understand why its the case, but you're incredibly biased in these discussions. You want blood spilled to make up for some false claims against a cop but you won't even look at videos of cops verbally assaulting a kid on a porch or yanking a kid out of his car for "vegetation" in his window seal.

I'll be the first to admit that the overwhelming majority of cops are great people and took the job for the right reason. You guys have an incredibly tough job and don't get compensated near what you should, at least early on. Some are complete pieces of shit that took the job for the power trip and use their powers to abuse other people though. It's beyond frustrating to see good cops turn the other way to those cops that terrorize innocent people but will quickly run to the side of a cop that's been accused of something. Do you not see an issue there? If you're going to say King should be held accountable for going at an innocent person, you should be able to do the same for cops that go at innocent people.

 

I have no idea what the law is. As for what I feel, I feel a reporter should be able to report on something that he believes to be true. If he was just reporting her story as told to him, I'm ok with that. I think asking reporters to confirm every story is 100% true before they report it is asking too much. Sometimes that's just not possible. If he knowingly reported false things, then he should burn for it.

 

Yea, I'd expect an apology from you but I'd understand you were doing your job. I'd be more upset with the person that fed you that bs story though. That's the person I'd go hard after.

Cops falsely accuse people literally every single day. Should a civilian be compensated when that's the case?

 

No I don't blame those cops at all. They were doing their job. Injuries or not, a man is getting arrested when a woman claims rape/beating 99% of the time. People get arrested when its he said she said all the time. That's why I don't blame King. He was doing his job. He reported what he was told. Again, asking reporters to prove something before they report on it severely limits what reporters can do. King's job is mainly to report on the injustices on brown people by cops and judicial system. What was he supposed to do here? Call the police dept and take their word for it? Come on, man. I completely understand why he reported her story. He got burned for it but I think he'll do the same thing next time.

SFSTs are a standardized test, and you can locate the entire test and the clues online very easily.

 

C'mon man that is bullshit. Their job is to fucking confirm a story before publishing, I'm pretty sure that's the fundamental principle of journalism.

Not to mention this type of sloppy reporting detracts from future claims of misconduct, he is hurting the people he is trying to help by not doing his fucking homework. In addition to dragging a man's name through the mud.

That doesn't change my opinion. If a reporter is told something from what they deem a credible witness, I'm ok with them reporting it. That's typically how the whistle is blown on injustices. It's really hard to prove that stuff when so many are willing to cover it up. A lot of times it just has to start with a "he claimed this." For me it would depend on how King worded it. If he stated it as fact, then I'd hold him accountable. If he said "she claims this..." then I'm ok with that.

 

I will once again point out how neat it is that a cop that voids this thread like the plague when cops are beating and killing civilians has no issue spending all day itt bc a lady told some lies on a cop.

I did. i just re-watched, and he never says: start when I say go, or whatever. So she has to try to figure out when he's done talking and when she is supposed to go, or if he will tell her to start. So her starting early is more a sign of shitty directions in this case than being drunk.

he's telling her what to do. He says stand heel to toe (she stands heel to toe), imagine a straight line, and take one step heel to toe (she takes a step) he says oh no, don't start yet.

Fuck that right in the ass if you mark someone off for that. it's NOT clear that he is saying: watch me for the entirety of what I'm going to tell and show you, THEN I'll tell you to begin. Poor instructions, thi guy needs more training, and his entire stop is suspect in my opinion. if he can't clearly articulate what he wants from her, the test is flawed, hi training is flawed, he is flawed, or all 3.

he tells her to maintain that position at about 17:05. She starts walking at about 18:21. So you are legit supposed to stand there like that the entire time? That's part of the test? I almost think that's designed to fuck with your legs so that it makes it tougher to walk the line.

it looks like he does show her the turn. I'm still curious how that looks.

But ultimately, the test is designed so that everyone can fail it, or at least makes enough of a mistake that they fail. I wonder how many people are given a field sobriety test and pass it and are allowed to drive home?

I must say that I'm not overly surprised that you have zero interest in commenting on a bad cop. That's a common theme for cops. Turn the other way and act like it didn't happen. That's the biggest issue we have in police depts today. If police depts would police themselves so many of the huge issues we have wouldn't be near as severe as they are today. Instead good cops look the other way bc they don't want to be that guy in the dept.

But you have all day to rally around a cop that had his name slandered. Neat.

Shaun King 100% should apologize to that officer. That's the one thing I'll say I don't like about what he does. Never really takes ownership when he fucks up and does stuff like this where he now turns it around and says he and other believers are the victim.

The chief just saying the cops were disciplined and not taking questions was also really shitty.

I wish this kind of outraged existed when a false police report is filed. What King did is wrong and your outrage is warranted but you guys turn a blind eye when a police officer falsifies or exaggerates an incident in a police report, and a false police report > a tweet.

Not at all. You just dont get on a soapbox when it's the cop that does wrong. Today you did bc a guy tweeted out what he was told and it turned out to be a lie.

You're one of the good guys. I know that. Just wish the good cops would be more critical of the bad ones, in general. The quickest fix we have is for the good cops to push the bad ones out so instead of turning the other way.
