If you’re black in America the sentence for running from the cops is being shot in the back.

I don't think anyone would argue against that being a good shoot. From your backstory the guy seemed to have severe mental and/or substance issues and should have been locked up and getting help. That's not on the cops though. They had no other choice in that situation.

I know it has to suck for you guys to interact with people that you know need help but there's not much you can do. And then for that to happen.

Tried seeing if we could violate his parole to get him off the streets but they wouldn’t do it

Guy just had that look like he would kill someone in an instant and he wouldn’t even faze him

Officer pulls over daughters boyfriend and threatens him and his family members with arrest, in an attempt to locate his 18 year old daughter. Officer got fired, and the department's union is appealing. I feel bad that he and his daughter obviously have issues, but you can't abuse your position in some misguided attempt to solve your family problems.

Old, but the footage was just released. Officer opens fire on a dog in a room full of children, misses, bullet fragments hit 9 year old girl above her eye. He's been fired and charged with aggravated battery.

I feel like I'm never right on these. When I think the cop woke up that morning wanting to shoot someone and then does so, they don't get charged. When I get why the officer did it, they get charged.

According to District Attorney Stephen Zappala, Rose can be seen on witness video showing his hands before fleeing. No weapon was found on his person.

“Based on that evidence, I find that Rosfeld’s actions were intentional and they certainly brought about the result he was looking to accomplish. He was not acting to prevent death or serious bodily injury. It is my position that he is not entitled to a justification charge to a jury as a defense. In as much as under Pennsylvania law, if you are effectuating an arrest, you have to show the person being arrested has committed a forcible felony. As I’ve said already Antwon Rose didn’t do anything in North Braddock other than be in that vehicle and you have to possess a weapon. Neither of those young men were in possession of a weapon. Or, you have to otherwise indicate that somebody is in a position to take human life and that is not the case here,” Zappala said.

SALT LAKE CITY — The homeowner who shot and killed a woman who broke into his home in West Jordan will not face criminal charges, according to Sim Gill, Salt Lake County District Attorney.

On June 8, Makayla Yeaman, 23, entered a home at 6845 W. 7605 South about 5:30 a.m. after obtaining a garage door opener from a truck parked outside the home, according to investigators.

Police said when she made it into the house, she was confronted and shot by the 26-year-old homeowner, whose name has not been released. He told police he heard the garage door opening and dogs barking, so he took a gun with him to investigate.

A knife was discovered near Yeaman's body, according to police. Gill said Wednesday she had been pulling out the knife before the shooting occurred, making the threat to the homeowner more serious.

"The homeowner's home had been invaded and the homeowner had a reasonable concern for his own safety, and therefore defended himself," Gill said.

Gill said the case was screened for possible charges "because there was a use of force that ended up killing a person and we take the loss of life very seriously. However, we could not articulate a filing of charges from a perspective of criminal conduct based on the evidence we have."

Three other people were sleeping inside the house at the time of the shooting, police said.

Yeaman's mother, LeAnn Yeaman, expressed anger and frustration at the decision not to charge the homeowner.

"I want to put 'you're a coward and a killer' on his front door," she told KSL on Wednesday.

In Makayla Yeaman's obituary, the woman is described as loving to write and sing, and having "a spirit too big for her body."

"Makayla suffered from the disease of addiction. Her parents are in recovery but weren't always, so she had it tough growing up," the obituary states.

Teen Who Also Ran From Vehicle During Antwon Rose Shooting Charged With Attempted Homicide

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The juvenile who ran from the car with Antwon Rose prior to Rose’s fatal shooting in East Pittsburgh last week has now been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting.

On Wednesday, Zaijuan Hester, 17, he was charged with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and firearms violations.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to the intersection of Jones and Baldridge avenues around 8:30 p.m. on June 19, for a reported shooting.

When they arrived, they found a 22-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was taken to Forbes Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police recovered nine spent .40-caliber shell casings and four spent .45-caliber shell casings at the scene. A description of the vehicle was obtained and broadcasted to officers in the area.

Officer Michael Rosfeld stopped the vehicle and ultimately shot and killed Rose as he tried to flee. Rosfeld has since been charged with criminal homicide.

A review of the surveillance footage of the drive-by incident shows the rear passenger window go down and a gun emerge. At that time, several shots were fired by the backseat passenger. The front passenger window remained closed.

Video also shows the victim and another black male in a red shirt standing on Jones Avenue. After shots are fired from the vehicle, the male in the red shirt returns fire and strikes the vehicle with multiple rounds.

Through the course of their investigation, the driver of the vehicle was determined to be a jitney driver. The driver told police he had encountered two males, Hester and Rose, at Hawkins Village who asked for a ride to Grandview Avenue in East Pittsburgh

The driver stated they knew the two individuals from previous jitney rides. During the ride, they stopped on Third Street in North Braddock, where the rear passenger got out, entered a home and came back out.

As they got to the intersection of Jones and Baldridge avenues, the driver said the rear passenger asked, “Is that him?”

The driver then stated the rear passenger fired several shots at a person standing on the street. The driver also said he never saw either of the two passengers possessing a gun, but the shots, “definitely came from the rear passenger.”

Police then showed the driver a photo lineup, where they positively identified Hester as the person in the back seat of the vehicle.

Police recovered a Glock 22 .40-caliber pistol, which was later determined to be the one used in the drive-by shooting. The gun had previously been reported stolen from Lower Burrell. The gun had an extended magazine with 18 live rounds remaining.

Police also found a 9mm Glock 26 under the front passenger seat. The gun was loaded with a 17-round capacity magazine. It was determined that there were 16 rounds in the magazine and the chamber was empty. The weapon was reported lost on June 19, 2018, in Monroeville.

After Rose was shot, he was taken to McKeesport Hospital, where he later died. Among the items in his possession was an empty 9mm Glock magazine, which fit the gun found under the front seat of the jitney

The speed at which the DA charged the officer with criminal homicide is surprising. I'd bet that his defense will try to use Tennessee v Garner, but the officer flip flopped a lot in his testimony in regards to whether or not he believed the victim had a gun; that's not gonna sit well. It's a tough situation. The officer did shoot an fleeing unarmed man in the back, but there is a lot of evidence to suggest these guys were involved in that drive by, and that they posed a danger to the community (harkening back to Tennessee v Garner).

Testimony of the driver is the big key since he said the shooter was in his back seat and obviously the third man in the car is dead

Garner is the pursuit case or whatever? That will only apply if he can prove he saw the kid w a gun or was told the kid was the shooter, etc.

He certainly wasn’t preventing any imminent violence that he could actually see/articulate. Problem for the cop imo if it goes to a jury is that this kid was like 30 feet away or more when shot. Free and in the clear with his back turned. Not fired upon as he opened his door to hop out when he was maybe still a threat. That’s going to matter to a jury imo.

    It will

But I’m sure the defense will hammer home the fact that these 2 kids just tried to kill a guy a few minutes early in a “disgusting and horrifying act of violence”

    Shitty situation all around

Luckily it can be explained by nepotism, one of the captains is the son of the city's mayor. Also good to note that the town is in such financial trouble it had to lay off 52 teachers and a bunch of administrators, but yeah let's pay these guys more than the president.

Maybe don't bring your gun out with you when you hit the bars, interject yourself in a drunken scuffle when officers are on the scene, lose control of your firearm, and then attempt to retrieve it when officers are yelling for you to leave it.

Yeah, maybe the cops opened fire too quickly, but let's not act like the guy made good decisions and was a victim of circumstance.

Sad situation that could've been avoided.

I look like a biker. Have all kinds of tattoos usually shave my head and have a beard so I constantly got fucked with by the cops. I am also not a little guy.

I got stopped once with my kids. First thing I did was put my hands on the steering wheel and told my kids to put their hands out on ash boards or backs of seats to not move and to not say anything. I used to think yes sir no sir and not moving was enough but like you said now I am not so sure. Not to be an alarmist but I worry about my boy all the time.
