That's on the aggravated assault for each bullet. The 2nd degree murder is on top of that, if I heard that right.
conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and official misconduct for allegedly attempting to cover up the events surrounding the shooting
Most of these are class 3 felonies. I hope they don't plead down, get probation and just lose their jobs. They need to see some jail time even if its just 6 months.
Its disgusting that they cant just say "One bad apple doesnt spoil the bunch." I dont think anyone thinks all cops are bad but it looks really fucking bad when they refuse to call out the bad ones.
this doesn't seem that egregious. This probably would be a somewhat effective deterrent for high school kids to see. I don't really know protocol, but is there anything in that video that indicates this guy might be dying?? I see it and think it's just a bad trip or this is what people on meth do.
Cops used 'Big Blue' dildo to harass men and women, so town says lawsuit should be tossed https://www.nj.com/union/index.ssf/2018/10/mountainside_seeks_dismissal_of_lawsuit.html
If a non-cop did that, they are going to jail. This guy will walk bc it's ok for cops to be so paranoid that they shoot anything that moves.
I don't know if anyone remembers that Kentucky sheriff who had a habit of handcuffing special needs kids when they acted out in school. It was a few years ago. Well they finally settled, and the sheriff's office has to pay out $337,000. https://www.kentucky.com/news/local/education/article221073215.html I know there isn't a chance in hell local PDs and Sheriff's offices would aggregate this kind of data, but I wonder how much taxpayer money gets spent every year to settle legal cases stemming from officer misconduct. I bet it's a staggering figure.
Wow, I'd never seen that before. Being a resource officer at a school has to be tough but you have to know you can't handcuff the kids to make your job easier.
"Now I've gotta wait an extra 9 months to retire, all because that fuckin' Nazi used his SS flashlight to beat black men senseless"
Bad Judge thread? After losing re-election, Texas judge releases several juvenile defendants after asking one question "I am baffled by why he did it," said a Harris County public defender A Houston district court judge who lost a re-election bid on Tuesday is facing criticism for releasing a majority of the juvenile defendants who appeared before him Wednesday after allegedly asking them whether they planned to kill anyone. District Court Judge Glenn Devlin, a Republican, lost his seat Tuesday to Democratic opponent Natalia Oakes — in a wave of 59 conservative jurists who had been ousted by Harris County voters, NBC Houston affiliate KPRC reported. And on Wednesday morning, Devlin had made a decision that shocked Steve Halpert, juvenile division chief for Harris County's Public Defender's Office. "The juveniles were asked whether they were going to, if released, whether they would kill somebody," Halpert told KPRC. "It was a little bit shocking because that's not a question Judge Devlin would ever ask. Or any judge." The judge’s actions were especially incongruous given his track record of incarcerating juvenile defendants, according to local media. A Houston Chronicle investigation in October revealed that Devlin and Judge John Phillips accounted for more than one-fifth of all children sent to Texas juvenile prisons last year, sending them “younger and for less-serious offenses than the county’s third juvenile court."
Agreed. This is the person we've had casting judgement on people for the last 4 years. Think about that.

Police kill security guard who actually apprehended a shooter: ROBBINS, Ill. — Witnesses say a Midlothian police officer responding to a shooting inside a south suburban bar shot and killed the wrong person early Sunday morning. After security asked a group of drunk men to leave Manny’s Blue Room Bar around 4 a.m. Sunday, witnesses say someone came back with a gun and opened fire. Security returned fire, and according to witnesses, 26-year-old armed security guard Jemel Roberson apprehended one of the men involved outside. "He had somebody on the ground with his knee in back with his gun in his back like, 'don’t move,'" witness Adam Harris said. Soon after, witnesses say an officer responding to the shooting fired at Roberson after arriving on the scene. "Everybody was screaming out, 'he was a security guard,' and they basically saw a black man with a gun and killed him," Harris said. Authorities are releasing few details Sunday night. Four other people, including the suspected shooter, suffered non-life threatening injuries. In a statement, Midlothian police confirmed two officers from the department responded to the scene of the shooting, and one of them opened fire. "A Midlothian Officer encountered a subject with a gun and was involved in an Officer involved shooting. The subject the Officer shot was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital," Chief Delaney of the Midlothian Police Department said in a statement. Friends say Roberson was an upstanding guy who was also a musician, playing keyboard and drums at several Chicago-area churches, who had plans to become a police officer. "Every artist he’s ever played for every musician he’s ever sat beside, we’re all just broken because we have no answers," said Pastor Patricia Hill, Purposed Church. "He was getting ready to train and do all that stuff, so the very people he wanted to be family with took his life. "Once again it’s the continued narrative that we see of shoot first, ask questions later," said Pastor LeAundre Hill, Purposed Church. The Cook County Sheriff's Office is handling the criminal investigation of the original shooting, while the State Police Public Integrity Task Force is investigating the police-involved shooting.
Its going to fall on what the officer knew at the time. If the caller didnt give a description or this guy matched it, they get off. Shitty, but these things happen. You get a call about a guy with a gun at the bar and you show up to see that, what do you do?
Thanks for explaining why "the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" is something only dumbasses say.
The guy who did most of this was our high school resource officer when I was in school. Real weird to read this when it came out.
Eh, a guy standing over another guy with a gun, if the cop takes those 2 seconds it could cost an innocent person their life, then we are all complaining that the fucking cop was literally right there, with his rifle, and did nothing, just watched an innocent person get murdered. Though I heard this morning that people were literally screaming at the officer - that is the security guard! right before he shot him. But, not to defend the cop, we know how high stress situations go. Who knows if he even heard them at that point? However, when you sign up for that job, that's part of the job. You can't make that mistake, and if you do, it's on you.
I agree, but you have the benefit of hindsight. It could just as easily been the other way around. Part of the difficulty of being a cop in that situation is that it's life and death, and you need to know exactly what to do, and you may not have 2 seconds to figure that out.
So security in this bar carried weapons while wearing civilian clothes or was he wearing security uniform and the cop didn’t properly assess the situation. One seems fairly improbable
