From what I've seen the controlling factor is police contacts. Blacks disproportionately have more contact with the police which is where the racism comes in.
Yikes, so stories from the past few days.... Man calls 911 for help, explains that he is schizophrenic and off his meds. Cops show up and kill him in a ridiculously callous fashion. Medical alarm goes off at a house, 911 is notified, cop shoots man inside his own home. 911 is called to do a welfare check on a woman who was passed out in a grassy area. Officer ends up shooting and killing said woman.
I may have to edit, so no one quote, but I started the whistle blowing process for an inmate recently. Jail is claiming they were already investigating (ie they were on top of it), but luckily they did the right thing and arrested the officer/guard for battery on the inmate. Now it should be battery on a detainee (felony) but they only charged him with simple battery.
The sight of that dog running towards him must've terrified him so much, he forgot that you shouldn't wildly shoot your weapon when there are civilians down range. I understand not wanting to get bit, but cops seem to go for shooting dogs pretty quickly. Not the first time an innocent person has been killed because an officer opened fire on a dog and missed.
Police dog bit an innocent bystander, sheriff’s office says. It was not the K9’s fault Office deputy was pursuing three suspects seen bailing from a stolen SUV on June 3, his K9 showed signs that he lacked focus. But the deputy didn’t order the dog to retreat, according to an internal affairs investigation of the incident As two innocent bystanders sat in the K9’s path, the deputy again did not order the dog to retreat. It was not until one of those women “was startled” and began screaming that the deputy shouted commands to the dog, ordering it back. But it was too late.
The title is a little click baity, but the study is interesting. Black men are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by police use of force. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news...ium=social&utm_campaign=snd&utm_content=wdiv4
That cop can barely run to the bathroom let alone after a criminal, aren't there physical fitness requirements for being out on patrol? Also, check out this neat colorized photo from the 1930's of two cops on horseback leading a man through town by a rope....oh wait this is actually from a few days ago. Dylan Roof kills a bunch of people and gets Burger King, and this dude gets to reenact an episode of Gunsmoke because he was caught trespassing.
Misdemeanor criminal trespassing. https://m.chron.com/news/houston-te...on-police-apologize-for-photo-of-14282778.php
We all knew how this was gonna shake out. Riverside County Judge has blocked the release of ANY video that shows what happened during the Costco shooting. The only way this could be a good thing, is if they're taking this to trial and they dont want to impact jury selection with a public release of the video. https://abc7.com/corona-costco-shooting-judge-blocks-release-of-video/5446290/ The bad thing is depending on them to take this to trial, seems fucking unlikely.
most surprising thing about that whole deal is that the police didn't take cocaine from evidence and put it into the bag from his arrest. The chemist must have been too quick.
I’ve worked with the ATF and FBI for awhile at my old position. I was working a hate crime investigation where someone set a cross on fire at a black church. The ATF agent was telling me one of the reasons the federal government gets involved, especially in these small rural towns, is they find officers that are either in hate groups, have family members who are in them or close friends. These cases aren’t particularly investigated to their fullest potential.
It's infuriating. How is a black person in that town supposed to be ok with being pulled over by someone they know is in the KKK? I just can't believe the stupidity of the decision to make them re-hire him.
My impression is that most people who are calling the loudest for police reform are also pro-union. This presents an interesting dilemma.
maybe not for you, but I'm not sure you are the spokesperson for....everyone. you mother fucking cock sucking bitch (am I doing this right, we end every exchange with random name-calling??)
I’m extremely pro-union and pro-police reform, there’s no dilemma in not wanting a klansman to be a cop, but clearly it creates a dilemma for you.
sort of. The original post I responded to said: It's hard to support unions that are, according to this poster, the reason we can't get rid of bad apples, while also supporting police reform with the goal of getting rid of bad apples.
No, it’s not, it’s an unions job to fight for the rights of its members, you can support that and also support firing those who are unfit to hold a job. It’s not that difficult to support both unions and getting rid of klansman, again no dilemma for most people, but go ahead and tell me why you have a dilemma with ousting a klansman.
So, what's your point? You can't support collective bargaining AND police reform because the police have a union too? Sounds really dumb.
If you really supported unions like you claim you do then you would want cops to have lifetime appointments.
Would love to know the labor union equivalent of suing your own department for privacy violations, when the county sheriff tries to share a list of uncredible officers with the District Attorney. Officers who have fabricated evidence giving testimony isn't a problem for them, pointing out those officers is the problem. https://laist.com/2019/06/04/can_a_...he_da_californias_supreme_court_considers.php
well, that it's tough to be generally pro-union and then be in favor of breaking up the police union because it's obviously so corrupt and protects bad apples. Which is the basic argument that most anti-union folk levy against unions (that they protect bad apples)
Well, the bad apples in labor unions don't beat the shit out of, plant drugs on, or shoot unarmed civilians. Also I never said anything about breaking up police unions, I said they were the reason that we can't get rid of the bad apples. If they could stop pursuing actions that fall outside the realm of common sense, like countersuing to get a racist piece of shit Klansman his job back, that would be a good start.
sure, but the logic applies to most other unions. The reason we can't get rid of the bad apples in the auto industry is the UAW protects them. The police unions are particularly reprehensible, but indicative of the negative side of unions in how they seem to be a safety net for the worst of the group.
The mouthpiece of the St. Louis Police Officer's Association decided to mark the fifth anniversary of Brown's death with a Facebook shoutout to the cop who killed him.
