Overreaction but it’s against the law to not give them the license. Not sure what he expected to happen. If you get pulled over there are certain things you have to do. Not sure what the cops should/can do when someone is not going to comply with a simple request. Maybe tell him why he was pulled over and ask for the license?

Some things don’t have to be so difficult. Get stopped you give your license, registration and insurance. Although the last two might be in the system already (I think they are in California).

You could be right, but it would have been by the book. I think the officer is required to inform someone as to why they are being stopped, what they were pulled over for, what they are being investigated for BEFORE anyone is required to show their license. The cop has to be able to articulate a crime that he suspects has been committed or was about to be committed before requiring someone to show ID. If the cop says he pulled him over for XYZ, now give me your license, and he still refuses, then fine, do what has to be done. But the cop was oddly evasive when asked why he pulled him over.

Three weeks ago, I called the cops on two black teenagers running in the alley behind my house at 1:27 AM after hearing 3 gunshots. My backyard camera caught them walking down the alley, towards the park at 1:14 AM. Cops arrived at 1:41 AM and were unable to find the two guys. Earlier this year, I went to my local neighborhood watch and provided the officer videos of drug deals and suspicious activity coming from a low income, drug house, a few houses down. The cops busted the house a few months later and removed everyone. Asking that cops be held accountable does not mean that you don’t support cops. I grew up in a high crime neighborhood and can tell you from experience that when the cops take an us vs them approach it does not help address the problems it just makes the community feel helpless and leads to them not cooperating with the police.

It's difficult to discount anecdotal evidence to the person bad things have happened to. If this is his personal experience, then it is what it is. if he's experienced crime and violence and it's a specific group of people responsible for it, it's not unreasonable for him to naturally associate crime and violence with that group of people. If it were young white kids doing all of this, would he be justified in calling out young white kids, and saying fuck these hooligans, I support the cops? Also, move. I had similar situations in the first house I bought in a shitty neighborhood and I fucking moved. Easier said than done, but..... People think BLM is focused on saving black lives. It's not, at least not in those broad terms. It's focused on racial injustice that results in abuse or killing of people of color. Asking BLM to care about black on black crime is like asking Susan G Komen to care about pancreatic cancer. Weather or not BLM should care about black people killing black people, or the Komen foundation should care about pancreatic cancer is another question.
