Im pretty sure this is standard procedure on any traffic stop. I know its taught to the cops in my city. Im white and have seen the cops hand on his weapon several times when ive been pulled over.
After a couple of times being pulled over and asked to step out of my car in Louisiana I got curious and asked why. The officer said they did that with all single male drivers with out of state tags. Thought it was an interesting policy. Note I asked the question at the end of the conversation before getting back in the car.
Here is what I’ve noticed amongst many people, who are white, that a cop is a total asshole if one pulls them over for rolling through a stop sign or going 5 mph over the speed limit. But if said cop shoots and kills a black person it is totally acceptable and completely normal. He’s just doing his job!! Fucking weird.
