From what I remember hearing during testimony he gave his adult friend cash to purchase it for him and it (allegedly) stayed in Wisconsin at the friend’s place until after the murders.
It was stored at the Wisconsin house and he took it with him to the protests and likely other places at times. Sounds like it didn’t cross state lines until he went home that night.
His sisters ex boyfriend bought it for him since he was 17. There is some debate in whether he also held it for him or not - whether it crossed state lines or was always in Wisconsin.
It wasn’t a good case because it was a 17 year old white kid who shot people who were protesting police brutality against unarmed black men, all the other things would not be considered if he were a 17 year old black kid who shot and killed right wing protesters.
I'm not 100% well versed in the case, but from what I've read the gun was actually owned by a friend in Wisconsin so he claims to have never transported it across state. Maybe you could make a case of negligence against the friend for giving a 17 year old the weapon, but the fact it was used in self defense probably would make that a hard sell to the jury. It probably wouldn't fall under the straw purchase regulations because the buyer didn't transfer possession to the Rittenhouse. They claim the weapon stayed in Wisconsin (no clue if that is true or not) and under the control of the person who purchased the rifle. Rittenhouse can argue the weapon was purchased for him to go hunting with his friend which would be legal so it would be more similar to a parent purchasing rifle for a minor than an illegal straw purchase.
This story is awful, it still boggles my mind to see someone carrying a gun like that or any gun legally in the street. That’s obviously the first thing that should be fixed but it’s pretty clear that it won’t. he will win and get nothing because of some stupid laws why the hell did he go out there with that riffle if it wasn’t to use it? They are probably claiming self defense, seems to me that the best self defense in that case would’ve been to stay home. I know it doesn’t work like that but it’s pretty terrible that he killed two people and he will not get anything.
its a super frustrating case and was bound to happen at some point as more and more cospatriots take to the streets with rifles. It was only a matter of time before a fight started and someone died
The media has a huge part to play in ACAB. They take everything they tell them, and report it as fact. And also bury the lead.
Yes, it is, if you don’t think it is it’s because you don’t give a shit because you’re one of the people that knows that you will always get the benefit of the doubt.
no it’s because I understand the law. Before this case started I said most likely scenario is he gets off and the guys in Georgia get convicted
If you understood the law then you would know that the laws have been fucking blacks and other minorities from day 1. Your understanding of the law is that you have and get to benefit from them and therefore you disagree with any criticism of said laws. Trust me, if this kid were black, even if he were a white guy protesting for equality, there wouldn’t even be a trial he would’ve been dead on the spot and if there were a trial he wouldn’t be getting treated with kid glove like this entitled prick. Source: American history Want an example, look at what happened to the guy in Portland who was executed, then a republican president bragged about the execution and nothing happened.
This is the easiest way to show the discrepancy. The rules have been different since we were property, then hanged for wanting to vote, until today. If a black man did this shooting white protesters there wouldn’t be a trial right now, he’d be dead. ~Source 400 years of this shit happening.
unreal, I just did a quick research on Facebook (kidding) and there are a ton of evidence of a complete double standard.
It’s not even a double standard. It’s the system. This country was built on the idea that people of color are inferior and the system has upheld this ideology ever sense. There is no flaw, this is exactly how it is designed to work.
UK police are kinda the opposite of US police in a lot of ways cuz they don’t investigate crimes at all vs investigating the ones that don’t matter. In Cambridge there’s a stolen bicycle community group to help you recover your bike because the police basically shrug and say “well, you need to get a angle grinder proof bike lock” and won’t station a cop at the train station bike rack where about ten bikes are stolen a day.
“I’ve never owned slaves” guy “That was 150 years ago, they’ve had the same opportunities for generations” guy “Sorry it happened I guess, but why do we need to keep bringing it up?” guy “Technically you’re the one who is being racist” guy They’re all the same guy, and you’re that guy. And to answer you’re stupid question: No, but letting people like this slip through a broken system keeps us on that same fucked up path that we need to get off of.
None of those statements are analogous to the question I posed. Now I see why the other poster didn't respond.
No, but denying the sins of the past and the present doesn’t fix problems, and that’s should be the objective, fixing the problems. Can we stop pretending that pointing out how the system is different for blacks vs is somehow equivalent to asking that white people lose their rights? See white supremacy is so ingrained in you, and society as a whole, that you actually view blacks asking for equal rights as a slight against the rights of white people.
When you responded to IlliniHockey, it seemed like you were disagreeing with the idea that it was a bad case because Rittenhouse had a valid self defense claim. If you're arguing that Rittenhouse had a valid self defense claim then I apologize for misunderstanding your point.
If he were a black 17 year old, the validity of his self defense claim would be irrelevant, that’s the point and the problem. How you or the white supremacy enabling scumbag deny that shit is beyond me, you motherfuckers go as far as denying it to people who have experienced the discrepancies in this bullshit system, how do you do that? The level of arrogance that it takes to get to that point is beyond my comprehension.
Alright. I see you're talking about the bigger issues in disparate treatment in the criminal justice system and weren't really responding to IlliniHockey's post.
So many people need to go to jail. Obviously the cops thay shot this kid but also the DA that viewed the entire video and was OK with not charging them and ok with the police editing the video bc it made them look really bad.
This is by far one of the most disturbing videos shared here. In many of the other videos (aside from George Floyd) there is some degree of split second decision making required. I can rationalize some of those those decisions being made as someone defends themself from they perceive as a kill or be killed decision. This isn’t that. This is disgusting.
Them covering it up by blurring out the released video made it way worse too. If one cop fucked up, ok that happens. Hold them responsible. But the systematic cover up to protect their own is infuriating.
An airsoft gun. Incredible danger, thank God in Heaven Above that none of those brave officers went home that night with a small pink blemish on their skin.
If that wasn't in a school they would've shot him. And I guess I'm still surprised they didn't shoot him
i used to think so but my wife has told me some horror stories about her school since lausd pulled school police. There has to be a happy medium between all or nothing. I’m honestly scared for my wife sometimes because there is no security at her school.
