The moment they realized they had fucked up wasn’t when they shot an unarmed man, but when they realized it had all been caught on camera.
That's one of the worst I've seen. Literally did exactly as told and shitheads cosplaying as soldiers in Fallujah opened up fire as soon as they saw him. Straight up murder.
Here a half-baked idea… The victim will almost certainly get some kind of massive payout as part of the settlement, I assume with some type of gag order. What if one of these victims refuses to sign that settlement until the gag order is removed, and instead demands that the officer that first pulled the trigger has to be put in chains and follow the victim around the country doing a speaking tour on the need for police reform.
unfortunately Cherokee County, NC is poor as fuck. other than Harrah's Casino there's nothing there and it will bankrupt the town and the settlement will fall on the citizens of the already poor residents cause you cant sue the police department independently
It sucks too because it's very very pretty up there. In the middle of summer we were on a Smoky mountains vacation and I went tubing on the river, I couldn't believe how cold that water still was.
The worst takes will revolve around the cops being black, therefore it disqualifies any discussion systemic racism and policing surrounding this event. And because he fled on foot, he can only blame himself. I hate how easy it is to predict the response to everything.
But don't let it be a black and a white one 'Cause they'll slam ya down to the street top. Black police showing out for the white cop.
Black or not, then firing 5 cops and releasing this after hours on a Friday... I don't think I want to watch this one. Memphis might burn this weekend.
Oh yeah, it's going to be the worst of the absolute worst because of the race of these cops. Tucker will say something like "You see, Black cops beat Black people too! Also that's good because Back the Blue and Black on Black violence!"
Good chance tucker says these guys were gang members who infiltrated the ranks of the Memphis police.
that narrative is total shit and I understand why you guys react the same way but on the other side sometimes
Today is Thursday. They are releasing it after 6pm tomorrow, which is Friday. Video of the fatal police encounter, a mix of body-camera video and pole-cam video, is expected to be released after 6 p.m. Friday, he said.
when you want a news to go unnoticed as much as possible you release it on a Friday night, it’s a well known tactic in politics and many other places
sometimes I feel like some of you go to the extreme on the other side, but it’s because most people participating in this thread lost all confidence in cops and the system. Which is understandable Like there seems to be absolutely no good reason for a cop to shoot someone anymore
Sure I think most of us are well at the point where no cops deserve to be trusted or given the benefit of the doubt anymore. My post was more talking about how the worst fucking most evil right-wing talking heads will spin this as a way to completely avoid discussing racism in the US like Truman said despite it being still completely relevant even if the cops in question are Black.
gotcha, my response was more a general thing than directed at you or your post. I probably should not have made that last comment after quoting your post.
Because believe it or not, people lie. Would you think it kosher to lie about someone to cost them a week's pay at their work? Then the company doesn't want to pay you because why would they you didn't do any work and now you're hiring a lawyer to get the company to do the right thing. suspended with pay is what you get when they're investigating you. e: I misread the context as well since you didn't quote Danny Ocean there so I thought you were asking that as a general question, definitely not defending the cop above. suspension with pay in general is a good thing, though.
the lawyer for the family described the deceased as "being used like a human pinata" for three minutes so yes, between that and the fact the cops were fired less than two weeks after the beating took place and the DoJ has been involved for awhile as well, it's probably unbelievably bad. I posted a tweet ITT last week where they were basically saying hold on to ya butts in Memphis because that city might burn.
TRANSLATED: Get the hell out of Memphis while you can. Shop owners should be boarding up like a Miami hotel before a Cat-5.
this is not the only job where that's a thing and backpay is a fucking pain in the ass for basically anyone, why should any innocent person suffer and have to go through being lied about and then have to seek backpay as well? literally every job should have suspension with pay pending investigation. if you're guilty then it costs the company little to dump a shit employee, if you're innocent then you continue earning a paycheck as you should. also, tons of people live paycheck-to-paycheck, what's backpay going to do for them in those circumstances? backpay going to put food on the table?
Right, I don't think you're getting rid of this unless you completely disband the police unions. It is probably the only union that should be disbanded though.
