I'm not really one of those guys that thinks the media is horribly unfair to Barstool or whatever, but that NY Times article was full of comparisons and references that I didn't think were entirely fair. The overall tone was trying to be down the middle, but the things like comparisons to "people who get mad about an all female cast of Ghostbusters" and GamerGate were just nonsensical. I also don't see the main Barstool angle as targeting male outrage at all. I think the "by the common man for the common man stuff" is misinterpreted. Dave's SNL comparison is much more accurate - It's all about the characters. It's what guys like Stuart Scott or Dan Patrick used to be. You feel like you're sitting down with some friends rather than being sold something or watching the local news. I'm just sick of the idea that everything has to be related to Trump populism. Sure, maybe there's some of that at work, but it's not the main narrative about why Barstool is where it is today.
Agreed, but I think you have to acknowledge that Barstool definitely appeals to that demographic. I think it’s pretty amazing that Barstool is able to cater to that group of weirdos (diehard stoolies on Twitter) and then at the same time have something like PMT that makes fun of that target demographic ruthlessly and still succeed.

Eh... They do both. PFT’s whole character is mocking Internet commenters and the whole “guys being dudes” jokes are directed at idiot sports fans.
Which is making fun of the whole “male outrage” thing. So is their use of “cuck” and “finally a place for white guys on the Internet” and like 1/2 of their jokes.
It blows my mind that people are listening to PMT and not catching that they’re mocking red pill types. This is like when people didn’t know why they closed with “Take on Me.”
I've been watching barstool YouTube videos for the first time. My favorite part was when Big Cat was accosted by security for slitting too many people's throats at the Renaissance fair.
They, and specifically PFT, sometimes make jokes that probably go over the heads of 75% of their listeners. I love them for that. PFT is a smart dude.
Pft's wit is incredible at times. His ad lib skills are second to none. Big Cat is also an incredible host and sneaky good at interviewing.
