I’ve thought about this a little as well With Spotify offering how rogan $100m and the ringer double that, barstool is going to have to offer pft big cat and honk a ton of Money
Would you rather own 1-2% of a $400m company that is largely in $PENN stock or 45% of a podcast that someone gives $100m cash for Easy decision for me
P sure Big Cat and Dave both signed new contracts with the Penn deal. Big Cat is worth more than PMT itself and Dave probably a little more than that.
I thought this was going to turn into “How can you bring him back after that joke” takes. If you don’t like his schtick, that’s fair.
In income? I wouldn't think so I think there was some poster itt that did a deep dive on his comp though
Francis wrote a blog calling a missing girl a sugar baby thot 6 hours before her dead body was found. So when you talk about bringing someone like that back, you have to weigh his actual benefit which was writing satire blogs (not where barstool makes money) and co-hosting the morning XM show (again, not where barstool makes a lot of money, especially not that time slot). It’s fine you thought he was funny and a good writer, but he was rightfully fired and there is no point in reversing that decision.
Was it a horrible mistake? Yes it was, not defending him in anyway as that shouldn’t have been a joke or made light of. My point is it is funny where people who support barstool draw the line. Posting and writing about Brady’s nude son was ok, size 6 should be raped was ok, etc.
I don’t think either of those two were ok, and I think there are still ramifications from those in the form of hit pieces, losing sponsors, losing an ESPN show, etc. The thing is, those two you referenced were mistakes by the guy that runs the company, not an employee.
Pretty sure Francis had complained about being edited too much and got authority to post his own stuff bfore he did that. Also, Dave thought he was just using Barstool to advance his standup career and clearly didn't like him personally. It was in poor taste, but they could have weathered the controversy if they wanted to.
Hank said recently on PMT "y'all have equity", meaning both Big Cat and PFT...so PFT got himself a piece of the pie.
Hadn’t they just invested a bunch in his stand up special that flopped, then his article came out shortly after? Made it an easy decision for Dave. Had the stand up been a hit he’d still be around. Curious to see if Alex becomes more of a Team Barstool player now. Do you think they get her involved with some of the other brands?
So is barstool an investor in high noon drinks? Dave going overboard with sponsorships, shooting commercials, etc. figured esp after the penn deal he wouldn’t have to hawk products as much.
Sounds like high noon paid more for a bigger push: https://wineindustryadvisor.com/2020/05/04/high-noon-barstool-sports-partnership-new-flavors
They did the same thing with Truly last year. High Noon is just the next company coming for a piece of that White Claw pie.
Yeah I think there will always be those random extreme sponsorship/ad pushes as long as barstool has the reach they do.
i watched the Alex video and the Spittin Chiclets guys factoring in was hilarious to me. Biz and Whit probably don’t much Barstool $$, and shit talking is basically a bodily function for them.
