there is a shake shack opening right across the street from one of portland's major tourist attractions (powell's books). people will get hit by cars.
My complaint that will prob seem insane but i am going with it. Fuck curly fries. Arbys and Jack N the Box give you sliver fries. If I wanted half moon fries, I'd order half moon fries. There are usually like 3-4 curly fries in an entire medium order. Fuck em
I'm a snob but find shake shack pretty damn good. Granted all burgers make me feel like shit for a few days but five guys(go to one of the originals, have had some bad 5 guys) and shake shack are probably my top 2
Crinkles can be really good. But there are a lot of bad ones out there. Shoestrings just suck. There's no upside there.
Sizzle Pie is good. I like SFNY just up burnside but they are similar. Never tried Thai Peacock but I will
I judge myself after In-and-Out every time but it's fantastic "Setting the Table" by Danny Meyer I had to read when I first got out here and I've worked with a lot of his staff, I have to admit I lionized the guy to a degree Danny = Union Square Hospitality (multiple Michelin starred restaurants) and started Shake Shack
Nice edit - I was literally just about to post that the vast majority of the board has no idea who you're talking about.
As an admittedly pretentious food person - given these parameters probably: 1. In N Out 2. Burger King 3. Wendy's There's probably plenty that aren't out here that I'm missing out on.
BK varies the most between franchisees, at least around here. I can drive 2 miles and the whopper is noticeably different
Thai Peacock is the exact upscale, Americanized Thai that you know and want. It’s not Laangban in terms of greatness (still the singular best meal I’ve ever had) but it’s not supposed to be. It’s just tasty fucking food that is great wether drunk (usually with Dirtball) or sober (wife). I miss Portland food so much
Yep - you have to get a coin from the counter if you want to use the bathroom It's self deprecating to have to admit that I've used a central Hollywood bathroom at a Burger King but it is what it is
typically it's a key around these parts. i just thought "coin operated" implied that there is a time limit
I like his crullers and breakfast sandwiches, though. His daughter makes some dope ice cream, as well.
Incredible - I'm not sure if it's for this thread or another but would love to hear random anecdotes.
In many areas of LA, the condition of restrooms in fast food places are horrible due to the unhoused population.
They really are. My office is between a Wendy’s and a DQ (the DQ is awful). We had a Hardee’s across the street but it closed in 2019. Replaced with a Freddy’s and it just doesn’t live up. Whenever we’d work 7-noon on Fridays I’d always send someone over with $40 to get us a breakfast feast. Now, I know it’s the same thing but I swear Carl’s in Oregon was better quality than Hardee’s here in KC. Has anyone else noticed a difference between the two?
