    This is how I think. I picked Cartman because he carried the series for a long time and still has good episodes every now and then. Randy has been the best lately but he was basically nothing for a long time.

    this. Randy wasn't anything like he is now during the first like 6-8 seasons, Cartman completely drove the show. I kinda think they ran out of stuff to do with Eric so they shifted a lot of their efforts onto Randy and it worked.
