Vandy isn’t going anywhere because college Presidents are smug assholes who like being around other smug assholes and Vandy is the smuggest asshole of the group. Missouri, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, State and Arkansas, have enough votes as a block to protect one another from getting a boot.
Idiot doing thought exercise to try and create the most stacked southeasternish football conference possible. Edit: wait what. My original post cuts Miss State off the bat
I won't discount the possibility that, in 20 years or so, these super conferences decide they can make more money with just a dozen of their top-top schools (fewer, bigger slices of the revenue pie to share), and thus kick out the ones that don't bring enough to justify keeping, but that will only happen if the college football bubble bursts and the interest in the product wanes, forcing leagues to think about maximizing their dwindling profits. We're a long way from that happening, I think.
The battle for UVA and North Carolina between the sec and b1g after notre dame says no should be fun.
I went to the Cal-Temple football game at Veterans Stadium in 1993, the Golden Bears won 58-0. Only time I've ever felt bad for an opponent Cal fans also outnumbered Temple fans three thousand miles from home
Might have missed it in this thread, but how are ACC schools going to get out of the grant of rights? I would have to think for ACC teams to leave, they would need at more than half the conference to go, which I’m not sure there are enough landing spots for.
I'm team not kicking schools out of conferences simply because they don't win national or conference titles. Also, though no one asked, if the SEC goes to 18, give me UNC and UVA. If we go to 20, give me Miami and Kansas. I want ND in the B1G as I want to keep traditional rivalries as best as possible, and that move makes more sense in that regard. I know that football is the driver to the realignment, and that those 4 only add so much in that regard other than general brands, but I think that the SEC with those 4 teams is instantly the premier football conference, basketball conference, and baseball conference. Also, I'd like to revive the Kansas-Missouri annual rivalry. I love crappy football games that mean everything to the teams playing.
If both want them, b1g will get them. They aren't taking a hit to their academic brand if they can help it
one of the strangest, niche rage opinions I’ve seen on here. you win a billion nattys but are upset you don’t get to play in the Rose Bowl?
the only team left that moves the needle for the B1G or SEC is ND. maybe some of the ACC teams but it doesn’t seem to be realistic at the moment
Any team that wins less than 10 games a year doesn't have fanbases according to the internet, not interested!
To your last sentence, my point was Mississippi is just another school. I guess being a founding member means something though. Here comes Sewanee.
I was actually more disappointed that the Rose Bowl was a dump when we played in it. Didn't they finally do some renovations in last 10 years or so though?
It’s about being hungover as shit, forcing down a few frosty brews, smoking meats or ordering too much delivery, a sick ass flyover and pretty scenery. Respect it
Access is horrible, too Oh look, park on the golf course and wait three hours to get out yippee go Bruins
Yeah, one of the best parts about the Sugar Bowl always has been the proximity to your hotel and the Super Dome.
Although you can access the OG cotton bowl with the dart rail whereas to get to Jerry world you must first purchase a car and 60 gallons of gas
that is against the DFW tradition of letting old areas of town rot and building a new one to replace it 60 miles away
Went to the TicketCity Bowl in 2012. It was very weird seeing the (then) shiny new bleachers while the inside looked ready to be condemned.
We've been to more NY6 bowls than every SEC school but Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and LSU. We're tied with LSU and Florida.
big time bowl games are a blast. I didn’t realize how spoiled I was getting to go to them as a kid. like I mentioned earlier the 96 cotton bowl was a huge deal for ksu fans especially older ones. my uncle must’ve told me like 50 times how big of a deal it was to him in the three days we were in Dallas
btw I enjoy the tangents in these threads as we await news of the next gut punch to this once noble sport
The money the current B1G schools gets from AAU research grants etc, dwarfs the tv money. I'd take it seriously too.
yep they were our family vacations basically. I’ve been to three cotton bowls, three fiesta bowls, two holiday bowls, two alamos, etc
the holiday bowl was can’t miss for a long time, very sad what happened to it. I’ll never forget being at this game
always interested to see what is happening when I open this thread. Are people discussing breaking news? Or are they just shitposting about some random topic or the perceived strengths of their favorite schools? either way, it is a good time
I just have a really hard time seeing UVA in either super conference tbh Commitment to football is just not there Acknowledge you could say the same about Rutgers, Maryland, and even UCLA but I just don’t see it
That's what makes these conference realignment topics so irresistible. Deep down isn't this is all we ever want to discuss?
