I've followed Sumlin for a while and like him, but the A&M natives are gonna grow restless before long. Great recruiting, no defense, and even less discipline is a bad recipe for success. Maybe Chavis will fix that, but the discipline problem is an overarching theme.

I think OU could be starting to freak out a little bit. Baylor and TCU combined with the new SEC presence in state is really pissing on their cheerios. They may be thinking its time for a bold move.

As crazy as it sounds I think Oregon, not Ohio State, would've been the team they'd have to jump to get in.

He really needs to win around 9 games this year to keep the momentum going. Chavis was a big coup, but he isn't going to fix that mess overnight, nor is he going to do anything on the recruiting trail. LSU appears to be trending downward, and you wouldn't expect State or Ole Miss to be able to sustain their recent levels of play over an extended period of time. Sumlin is fun and cool, but like you said, that can only take you so far.

Ou could leave in order to collapse the big 12 and force tcu and Baylor into being mwc teams. That would help OU's recruiting.

The Big 10 could have had anybody they wanted from the B12 not named Texas for a period, but they slow-played Mizzou and settling on the East Coast and Maryland over pretty much anybody else in the B12 not named Texas when Mizzou left for the SEC. I thought taking Mizzou and KU would have been a decent play, if KU isn't bound to KState, cosindering Texas still thought they were TEXAS at that point. But the inroads in NJ and Maryland are pretty good for both recruiting and revenue.

And Texas is definitely still TEXAS when it comes to finding a 16th team. I think the B10 will hold out on going to 16 for a football/academic monster to pair with a basketball draw to make 16. Texas/KU would make sense. Texas/OU makes some sense if Nebraska isn't furious. Texas/UNC would be interesting, but probably isn't out there. I like Colorado to match with Texas, personally.

Texas? Over Florida State who had won 25+ games and was the defending national champion? Or Alabama that has been the premier program in college football since 2008? Because these were your top 2 teams going into the season, with Oregon 3rd and Ohio State 5th. Sub Texas for Baylor (who started 10th) and I don't see it. Unfair as it may be, college football has shown time and again that perception is reality.

And Texas is still given the benefit of the doubt by the media whenever they show even the slightest glimmer of not being a train wreck, despite being a giant bag of shit for the past 4 years.

The truly amazing part about this is that the Big 12 has what, like, 3 schools that can actually play football and their leftovers have slapped around the SEC since they moved over there.

This is a valid point, and is the main reason I said they'd have to jump Oregon and not Ohio State. People want to see blue bloods face each other on the big stage.

I think that actually plays to his point of perception vs. reality considering KSU has slapped Texas around for the better part of a decade, but rarely gets the credit they deserve.

KU in the B1G would be pretty freaking awesome for basketball. It's always nice to have another football whipping boy too, which reminds me again of Rutgers being in the conference

OU and Texas to the SEC is the smartest move. The only way to shift influence back towards those two teams in state is to neutralize the conference discussion. Texas doesn't have the same problem at the same level but its still going to be an on going issue. Moving to the B1G or the PAC 12 doesn't make that go away.

This is 100% correct, but KU is going to get snapped up whenever the Big XII dissolves and we know it's not because of their football program. It will also add some markets, superficially or not.

Times finished in the top three in the four years since the conference went to ten teams.

    KSU 3 times
    Oklahoma 2 times
    OSU 2 times
    Baylor 3 times
    TCU 1 time
    Texas 1 time

Not sure what it means, just felt like looking it up.

The SEC is by far the most logical fit for Texas and Oklahoma. Move Alabama and Auburn to the East and you've got a perfect conference. The main problem is did the SEC promise A&M Texas wouldn't get invited if they joined first (doubtful) or would they be able to swallow their pride and follow little brother, admitting they made a mistake in the process?

These matchups coming up are going to be a big deal. That Texas v LSU one could be a factor. The Ole Miss matchup was extremely positive from our end. I don't think our front office and admin knew how many fans would make it out to oxford. Which shows they just don't get it, but maybe that will change.
