Took the dog for a ride last night, probably only a mile or two. Wrapped the leash around the front tube. Worked decent. Lil fucker wasn't very tired after though

Climbing is part of cycling and at the end of a 3 week race he has the overall time lead then it is safe to say he is "one of" the fastest riders on the planet. Never claimed there were not faster riders or that he is the fastest.

Green jersey is for points, which is ostensibly the "best" sprinter award, but is really more about who can be at the front when the sprints happen (so, in a Grand Tour it's more like an award for the best combination of climbing and sprinting, which is always Sagan).

But Froome isn't just a climber. He's also one of the world's best time trialists (Bronze Medalist in Rio), which is probably the best measure of "fastest cyclist."

this is a fair statement. Climbing isn't an indication of speed. I wouldn't call andre greipel one of the worlds best climbers. I had forgotten the TT stuff though so I'll admit defeat on this one.

there are over 1 billion cyclists on earth. there are 19 UCI world teams with about 30 riders each. that is 540 out of 1 billion. He regularly wins stages and even tours. He is among the 0.00000054% of riders to even reach the world tour ranks in a given year. If you want to claim he is not "one of" the fastest cyclists on the planet, go right ahead.

I hate drivers. My eyes went starlight to the picture and originally thought it was you and was going to say I am glad you're okay.

On an unrelated side note one of the weirdest things I have to dea with on here is gubbs making fun of my for cycling. I don't understand why it is bad that I style in shape by running and cycling

Anyone else here start cycling to lose weight? Curious what diets have worked. I've lost before by just counting calories and cutting back on alcohol, that was my plan this time. Curious if there are any other tips or a better way to go out there.

about hit 9mi on my ride today. Should hit 10mi tomorrow. May go for a long ride if its actually nice this weekend and try to push up to 15 or so.

Also I really like it so far, well spent money to get going. Actually feel bad about not getting out and riding each day. It is nice to be able to exercise and not feel like absolute dogshit like running always was for me.

a.tramp lost weight on the whole30. I used to lift more and do little cardio. I lost weight to get fitter and more "cut". I did a weird diet that I made up. No bread no booze no soda and mostly protein and fruits

I've been mostly cutting way back on alcohol, breads etc. Grilling some chicken, pork and veggies with rice, or something like that. Cutting out red meats and high calorie meals for the most part.

I'm not morbidly obese, but I'm on my way if I don't change something. Don't necessarily want to do something incredibly restricted like whole30 because I know after that month I won't keep doing it. Trying to tune my daily intake to stuff I enjoy that isn't overly unhealthy, and adding ~1hr ride a day once I get to that point.

Losing weight at its most basic level is about creating a calorie deficiency. Figure out how many calories you need to mantiain your current weight and eat less than that. Eating less bad shit and more healthy shit. Grill yout food more. Don't drink your calories no booze, soda, juice. When I was doing my weight loss stuff all I drank was a cup of coffee and water. Cut down on added sugar. Try and add some weight training also.

So here is the key to loosing weight while cycling. Go slow, like really slow. This sucks as you are just starting out and enjoying it and like seeing improvememt and it is a blast to watch the sustained speed go up.

There are different zones of effort and the one that uses fat for fuel for the ride is on the very low effort end. From there you go to using stored carbs. From there you go to feeding your muscles muscles at max effort. No that is not a typo.

Mind you, you will loose weight eventually if you keep on exercising in any of those zones but for cutting fat, keep the effort at something that you can ride at until you run out of the will power to stay in the saddle or spin the pedals any longer. Just as a rule of thumb, you want to be able to read an entire book without gasping for air once at the effort I am speaking of.

It's probably best he mix in a variety of paces for overall ability

When I was training for a triathlon I attempted to utilize a lot of heart rate zone training. I lost a good amount of weight but I was also training for a tri.

I hate my life when inevitably I have 2 step back from the bike for 2-3 months and then get back on and see how far I've fallen.

The good news is you aren't starting from scratch. Look at your ride today and think back to how long it took you to be able to do a ride like that from the time you first started.

You'll be back in form soon enough, just don't push too hard and burnout.

Yeah, articles abound both for and against either position. In my experience alone, which is all I can really speak of, I have lost the most weight when I have put in lots of hours with minimal effort. Very well could be due to accumulating muscle mass while loosing fat when efforting harder.

I've been checking my heartrate on my phone as soon as I stop each day - last week I was consistently in the 'vigourous' range (>70% max HR) and this week I've been ~10bpm lower in the 'moderate' range. I live in Nebraska so theres not much in the way of hills, the only way I really make a ride incredibly strenuous is to try sprinting in straight aways. But to do that my deraileur needs to be adjusted, my chain makes some rattling or rubbing sound whenever I in gears 6-8 in the rear.

There might not be any adjustments to be made as it sounds like you could be cross-chaining.

Maybe? It happens in every single gear in the front, only in 6-8. I don't use 1-3 much, but when I have I haven't heard any sounds. Cross chaining was my first thought, but its fairly consistent to seem to be that issue. If it is, seems like the 6-8 gears are fairly worthless

I would think it odd if it is happening with all three chainrings. That usually happens when you crosser inner and outer gears on the front and back. I would take it back to the shop you bought it at and ask if that is normal, they probably do need ti adjust it then.

Yeah the biggest thing slowing me down right now is the saddle. I'm riding 2-3 times a week at 14-20 miles a pop. Feel like I could go a decent amount longer but comfort has been a factor so far

Got a new one that has been treating me better. Haven't gotten shorts yet but probably will soon. I've been shedding pounds like crazy so I'm definitely in this shit for the long run. Have also heard I'll get used to the discomfort to some extent.
