So I've been off the bike for a few months and I feel like I'm getting fat. Trying to hit the gym regularly (it's a bitch with my 15-16 hour days.) What should I work on that will make me a better rider in the spring? Just squat a shit load and riding the stationary bike for cardio? I'm thinking about splitting my cardio between the bike and swimming.
Unless you are a runt your legs should always be there and will just need to be brough into form. Core excercises will help you with your form, speed and endurance most as they are what keep you comfortable and secure to transfer all that power to the pedals. Imho.
I don't think I've ever felt like my legs were there power wise. I mean this in the most inexperienced, "I mash the peddles" way but I don't feel like I can ride in the tougher gears without dying in 5-10 minutes.
I would split time in strengthening quads/hams and core then. Even if you get your legs strong, without core holding it together you will be lots of wasted effort.
I might be mistaken but I don’t think any snsors will pair directly to Strava. You will need to pair them to the app that is funneling info to Strava or to a watch/computer that Strava can get the info from.
Ah. So riding indoors I just upload the info to Strava afterwards? How’s that work for outdoors- have two apps collecting data and then funneling into Strava after? Looking at the Wahoo speed and cadence sensors
cutig I have a Garmin ecosystem set up on my bike for outdoor rides and Strava collects info from Garmin Connect. For indoor rides I have Wahoo sensors that either Zwift or Trainer Road or Rouvy send to Strava.
And if you have them set up with the right permissions, you will not have to upload anything, it will sync automatically when the ride is finalized.
Feels like my calibration isn't right at all cause these rides I've been doing, like the pretty flat one tonight, are just killing me. Only 12.4 but felt so much more difficult than the 24 mi route I do here in town. Can't wait for it to warm up so I can get out on that route and see if it's all in my head or what.
Trainer gets here tomorrow. Excited to start riding again. Won’t have sensors for another month so unfortunately I won’t be able to log anything.
Rear hub trashed, special order and a couple weeks out. Looks like I am finally getting those new wheels today I have been talking about forever.
Traitor cycles went out of business, I think... so like 7 or 8 months ago I managed to buy a new touring frameset for like $280 or something. Eventually, this happened.
ha, looks like you can get a complete bike for $500 now (if you're like 6'3" and can fit the XL) https://www.evo.com/shop/traitor Same (heavy-ish) tubing as Surly and All City, welded in the same factory in Taiwan for a third of the price. (although I'd change out those brakes) Here's another company that is going out of business if anyone is tall and looking for a cheap steel frameset: https://www.kruegeroutdoor.com/collections/advocate-cycles
Gonna have to call Wahoo or Rouvy. Tried to do an FTP test just to do something with a constant resistance and couldn't pedal straight through for the intensity of the resistance.
I have, through Rouvy and Wahoo. The resistance just gets really high on it, as if it's locking up. There are times when I have to stand up just to turn the pedal over. It feels normal when I do my calibration. But then on that FTP test I had to drop to the smallest gear I had to be able to pedal. When you finish a Rouvy ride are you able to keep pedaling for the cool down? Mine starts out letting me pedal but then within 30 seconds the resistance just locks it up. I have to go into calibration to get a resistance that'll let me pedal and cool down.
Also, check to make sure you are not in ERG mode. That maintains a solid resistance no matter how fast you are spinning the pedals. If you are in ERG and have it set at a level you can not maintain, it will feel like you are getting weaker and weaker or the trainer is getting stronger and stronger.
yeah it shouldn't be an issues either way. Have you taken the bike off the trainer, even if it means just down the driveway?
Currently at 193. Will be back to 185 as soon as I get some outside rides in as I carry a huge amount of water weight that I shed quickly when it heats up.
Just set a new 20 min FTP record, 318W. If I was thinking about it I could have gone higher. Was trying to set a new lap record on Zwift and let off the gas at 17:30 and backed down to 200W after the lap was done. Nice to see all these trainer sessions I have been sticking to are paying off.
Got my wahoo cadence / speed sensors and a HR monitor. Going to see if I can get Zwift to work on my PC with mobile link to my iPhone
So I had to manually add it to strava? Will it normally do it automatically or will I have to do that every time? Also pedaling my ass off and seeing 3mph on Zwift is odd. Guessing it has something to do with the elevation changing in the game? Day one I like it. The workout mode was great, kept me distracted for a half hour before my legs quit. Kicked my ass a little bit since I didn't eat much for lunch, but it was better than just watching TV.
In Strava settings, go to apps and give access to Zwift. In Zwift settings, got to connections and give access to Strava. After that, it should auto sync. Sometimes it does take up to 10-15 mins, I imagine that is when their servers have high traffic. Most the time it syncs in about 2 mins.
Anyone use the wahoo sensors / wahoo fitness app? Can’t get the app to communicate with Strava to record my workout. Edit - Strava is supposedly connected on the wahoo app. But it won’t get any data. Neither will Fitbit or MyFitnessPal.
