I don't know if we'd lose the Republic; a lot of dead congressmen maybe but Biden wasn't there, I don't think the Joint Chiefs would allow a Trump dictatorship, and there's extant rules in place to replace dead legislators. Itd be more like what would happen if a plane hit the building imo.

They have the majority, but if I’m following the shenanigans correctly, McConnell is filibustering the organizing resolution that changes the membership on the committees. So the Republicans still control every committee for which they have more returning members from the last Congress than the Democrats, which is most of them. So the most likely resolution is early invocation of the nuclear option to kill the filibuster (good!) or, probably more likely, some deal that gives the Republicans some actual power or takes something off the Democrats’ table.
to add, he's doing this bc he wants assurance that Schumer won't nuke the filibuster he said if Schumer promises to not nuke it, then he'll let them Dems take control
Count me in as one OK with delaying the impeachment trial. It's only been three days and look at the shit we are already getting. There's a treasure trove of implicating nonsense just waiting to be revealed, get it out there and then hammer it home.

Everything that the Democrats are doing thus far I think show that they realize how dire the situation is. I think we're definitely going to see them dump the filibuster. The GOP is just too far gone. I think the problem was they saw these people in the GOP as friends.... until their friends almost got them all killed
