https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/20/briefing/labor-shortage-us-low-wage-economy.html As a result, many households have more of a financial cushion than they used to. If anything, the recent increases in savings have been larger at the bottom of the economic spectrum than at the top: With this cushion, some workers — especially those in service industries disrupted by Covid-19 — have decided that they did not like their old jobs enough to return. Others have simply quit their jobs. ... Eager is now looking for a new job, but she is not in a rush. “My financial situation is OK, and I think that is 99 percent of the reason that I can be choosy about my job prospects,” she said. So far, she has not been willing to take another job with low pay, no benefits and little flexibility. Her attitude is telling. The U.S. does not have a pure labor shortage so much as it has a shortage of workers willing to accept the working conditions that today’s economy often demands. ....thats good though.
I am STUNNED to learn that Joe Manchin couldn’t get ten Republicans to back a bill that nearly every Republican led state is trying to erase. Stunned I tell you. When Dems lose due to low turnout I do t wanna hear shit.
cosign this post. I have a friend that knows Raphael Warnock pretty close and he said he just shakes his head when Manchins name is brought up
I will continue to vote "Blue no matter who" because the judiciary is that important. It's a shitty prisoner's dilemma. However it's getting very hard to tell others, they should to when they dont do shit in office except slightly blunt the edges of all the awful shit their predecessors did.
not surprising considering the major price hikes ocean barges have been hitting consumers with. we got hit with about $20/MT price increase moving material from greece to FL
I will too, I just totally understand why people will stay home. When you watch a group almost succeed in overthrowing the government and actively fight to stop people from voting and you can’t do shit because of couple of people in your party won’t do anything because of historical norms, why should the low info voter waste their time? Nothing changes because the people in charge on both sides are fine with the status quo. If I weren’t so burdened by knowledge I wouldn’t give a care in the world because one party seems slightly less racist than the other. I know there is a lot more to it, but to the typical person who votes every 2-4 years, this would be disheartening.
the Dems did get a huge covid relief package through which includes direct money to individuals. Also this bill may only be 1.75 trillion compared to the 4 trillion ask but that’s 1.75 trillion more than what would have happened under the GOP
This is such a bad thought process. It’s time to stop the vote blue no matter who and start voting for people that want to represent the populous
Like Beeds said, you just have to assume the Ds are somewhat okay w a successful insurrection in the future. Same goes for the purported policy goals of the Ds. Pre-K, police reform, min wage, medicare expansion, infrastructure, etc. Seems like if they really cared about representing their constituents, they'd bring a bill for pre-K to the House/Senate floor. Same for the rest. Vote it up or down. Instead they pack it all in a couple of massive bills that give cover to everyone involved.
ya, the guy who has gotten wiped out in every election ever is getting more than the normal 1-2 percent that a 3rd party gets.
they pack them into a big bill because it's the only way to get it passed ain't nobody give a shit if they bring up bills for republicans to just block, as seen by the like HUNDREDS of these that have been done over just the last few years
^ I don't disagree. I'm sure there are several pragmatic and administrative reasons for doing it that way. Just seems really dysfunctional if your goal is to have substantive debate on each of the issues. It becomes "lop $100M out of this program and $200M out of that program" in order to meet some meaningless dollar total.
Hopefully, something will get Manchin and quirky Kyrsten in line the same way bags of flesh like Susan Collins did for the gop. Both sides really does have their cowards.
Not a single mask there? So they’re unvaxed and unmasked and interacting with people that likely can’t get healthcare they need?
This shits ok but Reddit turns a movie theater stock into a meme for a week and there's legitimate talk about restructuring the whole system
