Saw that and cut it in half for another 20%. That seems good to me. Gotta celebrate the few good things that happen in this shit county imo
Means testing is dumb. It shouldn't be done and usually cost more money than it saves. If the 150/300 threshold is used, you're probably not saving much and it's, what less than 5% of all people?
This is a much more civil and articulate version of my idea to drop a 4 ft long bodybag on the doorstep of a random politician every day.
This is awesome. And instead of a win it’ll get shit on bc everyone is an ahole, myself included. Incrementalism, not exceptionalism is our brand.
It’s not nearly enough. Medical professionals are typically the deepest in student loan debt and have been the people handling the pandemic. This helps people but it doesn’t go nearly far enough. Wipe it all out and start clean with fully funded public higher education. You can pay tuition at private schools if you want to go there.
I REALLY hope that they set it up so it works the same way as if I were to pay 10k into my account. If I did that, I wouldn't have to make another payment for 6 years. If they structure it that way it'll have a big impact on the borrowers that dont get their debt wiped out.
10,000 student loan payments for everyone and if you don't have student loan debt you can forward it to a family member or friend who has more IMO
Honestly, isn't this discussion probably academic? What are the chances the conservative courts don't strike this down if it's done via EO? I'm guessing less than 10%.
If it’s done before any court ruling takes effect, i imagine it’d be pretty hard for a court to undo.
Your lips to God's ears. Could almost certainly get a GOP appointed district judge to issue an injunction pretty quick I would think though. Only question I'm not sure about is who would have standing.
nice boondoggle Wisconsin Town Desperately Seeking Tenant For Foxconn Plant It may not have come with as much fanfare as Amazon’s HQ2, but iPhone assembler Foxconn’s high-tech plant was once destined to transform Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin into a high-tech manufacturing hub. Five years later, locals are worried the five-square-mile facility could end up empty with taxpayers holding the bag. Who said public-private partnerships were easy? Spoiler The Foxconn in the Hen House Originally announced in 2017 in close collaboration with the White House, Foxconn’s plan to build flat screens in Wisconsin was a huge win for American manufacturing. Headlines included the promise of 13,000 jobs (supported by $3 billion in state tax credits) and the company kicking in $60 million towards land acquisition and acting as the backer of $300 million worth of bonds. But not too long after — thanks to what it would cite as "high manufacturing costs" — plans for operations were put on ice. And while other initiatives were floated, so far, none have come to fruition: Foxconn considered producing both high-end coffee kiosks and ventilators at the site, but both initiatives failed to launch. After the company teamed up with EV startup Fisker, many speculated the plant could be used to create EVs — but Foxconn bought a former GM factory in Lordstown, Ohio instead. Local leaders spent the past year courting Intel, WSJ reports, but Intel, too, opted to open a chip factory in Ohio instead. Buckeyes 2, Badgers 0. By year-end 2020, the plant had created a total of only 579 jobs, WSJ reports. So What’s The Fallout? Hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure upgrades (water, sewer, and roads, primarily) have already been paid for. To service the construction bonds, the Taiwanese tech giant is eating an annual bill of $36 million. How long will they continue to pay? Kelly Gallaher, a local resident, told the WSJ “I think it’s foolish to believe that starting next year, they’re going to be willing to make us $30 million payments a year for the next 24 years so that we don’t default.” One to watch, for sure.
The process of undoing seems much more complicated. Maybe they say “presidents can’t do this” but getting every institution to to slap debt back on people would create a bunch more lawsuits
This admin is so scared of its own shadow that it’s frankly insulting. “Okay, here’s one cookie. I know you’re starving, but you’re not dead, so one cookie should hold you over.”

this Reply All on the foxconn is worth a listen. Also, the irony is not lost on me that the company involved is "Fox Con"
one of the biggest differences between the Rs and Ds is the Ds cower in fear at the courts striking something down while the Rs do what they want to do and dare them to figure out how to undo it.
If the Dems had any spine they would hold their feet to the fire in the next election for taking money away from people. I'd say the Republicans wouldn't try something that would be viewed as incredibly unpopular but that doesn't seem to stop them and people will still vote for them. Fuck everything, eat Arby's.
I'm guessing if they're doing it they found their legal authority to do so. I know that doesn't matter but if they pay it out its kinda hard to take it back
Spending tax payer’s dollars to combat real disinformation is deemed a propaganda tool, but spending money for literal pro-cop propaganda is okay. America is gonna America.
no one will have standing to challenge it and they can legit do the forgiveness with a click of a button so the timing for an injunction is basically....none?
And deposit it into a 529 for whoever the fuck you want if you never had any. Boom. There goes the bitching about trade schools and people complaining about already paying their shit off.
If means tested, I assume you're going to have to apply for the forgiveness, so it won't be (a) announcement day 1; (b) forgiveness day 2.
Individual congressmen absolutely don’t have standing - that’s foreclosed by a mid-90s case challenging the line item veto. Even the House and Senate have very narrow ability to sue, and not one applicable here since they can always pass a law to countermand the EO. Of course, that’s all subject to change since precedent doesn’t matter
