I have no idea what Manchin and the supreme court has to do with it. You're not making a choice between those two when you vote
If you're point is terrible judges on the supreme court then yeah I agree trump's nominees are very bad but that seems like you're agreeing with me
The question was hypothesizing a present with Trump as president. His federal judge appointments would be worse, but none of those judges matter with the current Supreme Court willing to ignore law and rule as monarchs. Biden has done nothing to oppose or delegitimize them. Joe Manchin has effectively neutered Joe Biden’s legislative agenda and he’s refused to executive action his way around it. The people that decided to steal an election haven’t been charged. We were leaving Afghanistan if Trump stayed president. Joe Biden vs no president at all is probably a better comparison. Trump v no president at all doesn’t seem that much worse, honestly. The calculus isn’t just based on campaign rhetoric at this point. We’ve got a year and a half of actual government to build a hypothetical around.
I didn't argue Biden is good. I hope he doesn't run in 24. I said as much in this thread... but Trump is worse (which is the crux of my one sentence question) and I can't take you seriously if you say otherwise
As a person? Absolutely not. I’m just not sure how much worse a Trump direct presidency would be than the Trump by proxy one we have right now.
This is the part that gets me. It feels like Bernie and AOC (and a few others) are the only ones out there really trying to promote what should be a progressive D agenda. You can't win hearts if you don't even make your case to the American public.
Why can’t they just say “republicans oppose enshrining gay and interracial marriage into law,” instead of just calling it “murky” of “an uphill battle”
totally agreed! also a good reason to not default to every four years press the blue button as the solution to society’s woes. historical fact remains valid for countering hypothetical futures in which no action is possible because Rs won— as if that doesn’t describe the present in which Ds won.
reminds me of watching the star wars dorks pose for pictures with their purple lightsabers in front of the Millennium Falcon at Galaxy's Edge
Just too carry on with the theme of the day zoomed in, polls have pointed to a not insignificant Warnock/Kemp voting block. Some folks have thought this was moderate non Trump Republicans, but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt it's older men in the "black belt" of rural GA. Kemp opened with tax rebate checks and gas tax holiday. Abrams opened her campaign discussing national social issues instead of the line she is currently taking - community investment and affordable healthcare. She is making headway, but is playing catch up with this voting block. tl;dr Folks want to know how you're gonna make their life better financially...and weed. They really really want legal weed.
While I don't believe it's true, I'm open to the theory that accelerationism to balkanization would get us to a better outcome faster. But just as a straight comparison, you'd have to be a dog faced pony boy to think that another Trump presidency wouldn't be significantly worse than having another term of ineffective and sundowning Biden.
I don’t know how that Jesse Kelly guy got famous but he is possibly one of the most detestable humans on the planet
that's a fine point and all but if im donating to dems, my money shouldn't be given to maga candidates that's just an awful way of using donations
it is a "waste of time" to enshrine rights into law that were called into question by Clarence Thomas. Be a man Marco and actually say how you feel also, fuck Romney
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday said he was "really impressed by how much bipartisan support it got in the House." SUCH BIPARTISAN SUPPORT
Kemp and Warnock both winning, seems to be the most likely scenario at this time. Abrams has a TON of ground to make up to even make the race be really close.
If I were a betting man that’s where I’d put my money. I don’t think Abrams will even finish within striking distance of Kemp. I would love to eat crow on that.
I’m not talking about 2024. I’m talking about right now. The worst things that would have happened under this term of Trump are most likely the same worst things that have happened under Biden. The best thing Biden did was probably get out of Afghanistan - something Trump had already started and was planning on doing as well.
If you think shit in Ukraine would have gone the same with Trump as it has under Biden, I’m not sure we’re living in the same reality. And that would have bien a big, big deal geopolitically.
