Except she's an actual rancher. In that her family owns a ranch, not that she actually works it.
This country sucks shit. Fuck you, Joe Biden.
Didn't Texas successfully sue the Biden administration for trying to halt deportations already? If I remembering it correctly that's not really Bidens fault.
This is absolute shit, if true. I need to know a little more about it because obviously detention camps don't just spring up overnight. I can only assume that the process for building this was started quite some time ago and only "opened" now upon completion. But still, it's absolute fucking bullshit. Since they already spent money on this shit, they should repurpose them to house people who are homeless currently so we at least get a functional use out of them (obviously, getting rid of all the security and other prison-like features).
being pro-family means being pro-work
Ah yes another day of read the headlines not the story
at least the cages got a bit more spacious i guess
imagine fucking saying this without the fear of being beaten within an inch of your life.
That Marco can still consume solid food is proof America is a failed state
It's a well known fact that work sets you free
So there’s a couple important issues that get conflated. When unaccompanied minors come here, they need to be housed someplace until their family can be located or they can be fostered somewhere barring finding their family. That’s good, responsible government. Family separations are bad and shouldn’t happen unless the family is abusing the minor.
I realize we aren't there yet but having a little trailer for a family to use for a week while they get processed into the country would be solid.
Yea the headline looks bad but after reading the article it seems reasonable.
For those that haven't:
I need an explanation on the cost though:
The influx facilities also cost more: about $775 a day per child compared with $290 a day for permanent centers.
Then pay people a living wage you fucking cunt! I might need to step away from this thread for a while. My heart can’t take this anger. CaneKnight how do you do it brother?
That doesn't really jive with the "get fucked, got mine" attitude of all Rs and most Ds.
Lots of running(use to be the gym before COVID) and bourbon my friend.
An explanation of why we would spend more or why does what we spend on cost more money? Probably start with covid requirements for space if it is the latter and treating them better and providing more services costs more money.
That tweet is extremely deceptive, that migrant facility is for unaccompanied minors and not for kids being ripped away from their families. The fact that these 2 things are being conflated helps republicans and proves yet again that the narrative of the media having a liberal bias is absolute bullshit.
That Jordan Uhl account I found to tweet stuff that isn't fully contextualized a lot
Yeah, that’s shit. I’ve heard him on the QAnon Anonymous podcast a few times and thought he was a little more intellectually honest than that. Found that lede to be disappointing.

Let the record show that I am 100% anti-work
The fossil fuel industry is concerned that federal lands are off limits for exploration. Manchin’s opposition will have everything to do with her qualifications because he doesn’t like what she will do.
I disagree with Manchin, but this one is much more about policy than the other. Manchin is going to protect the fossil fuel industry if he can.
This is why you don't put extremists in that open a can of worms like drilling on federal lands.
A few folks and I talked through the current deportation issues last week, and there are some very real problems with Biden’s handling of things that are found in Uhl’s tweet. I probably incorrectly assumed that everybody was as invested in that convo as I was, and applied all of that background here. I should’ve put a bit of an explainer there, but my sentiment remains.
It's clear respectable groups like the ACLU are upset with this admin and it's annoying we can't have a honest conversation about it.
The notion that all poor people are lazy and don't want to work is so fucking gross.
Saw this and liked it (though I am biased as I have a few friends who run businesses that would fall into this category) -- https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/22/politics/ppp-loans-biden-administration-small-businesses/index.html
$775 per day seems high to me. Idk what all that entails though. Medical, psych, tracking down family, etc. When I first read it I was just thinking about bed and food.
I thought I'd seen a lot of reporting in regards to the immigration stuff, that the previous admin(mainly Miller) levelled all of their ridiculous shit to the point where it was going to take months to get it undone?
Not too late for the explainer imo
Please explain, but taking a quick look at the info that was posted it does feel like there are some incremental improvements over and above what the last admin did, and I am sure this is just a starting point. He hasn't even been in office a month and he is dealing with a major pandemic as our number one priority. I get walking and chewing gum, but you can't fix many years of neglect in a few weeks.
Biden also promised day one action, that's on him.
i think that's kind of on the voter for being stupid enough to believe there would be day 1 solutions to all this shit
Oh, OK. So far I am happy with the job he is doing overall. I am not going to go all purist on every promise or interpretation of those promises. He is moving the needle in the right direction and is getting more wins than losses.
This isn't a purist angle, it's people's lives, people who are dying in camps because they're more at risk of contracting COVID. It doesn't mean we don't take small wins, it does mean I'm not going to be satisfied until there is major change to our immigration system with respect to undocumented people.
Some of you need to accept that whoever is president should be constantly critiqued if you don't want them to get back to accepting the status quo.
I’m also 100% anti-family. Especially mine!!
Some of you need to be more pragmatic about understanding how change works. I am not a believer that you can just fix things overnight. A policy that is in effect today may ease into the policy that you want, and that is my expectation. If it doesn't happen I will be the first to criticize. I just don't think a few weeks is enough of a window to start forming opinions unless you are looking for confirmation bias.
Look in the mirror to see someone looking for confirmation bias
I won’t argue that this administration, just like Obama’s administration, leave a lot to be desired when it pertains to immigration. I just think using the opening of that migration center frames the conversation incorrectly and takes away from some of the things that are really happening that need to be addressed.
But when it’s all said and done, there is no way to fix the immigration system via executive order. There has to be real immigration reform in order to fix the problems and while Biden and all presidents deserve the heat they get, the main culprit are the people in congress.
LOL, we can all say that. I'll be the first to admit it. That said, my window is longer than a few weeks. The purists, not so much.
Toomey just sucked all the dicks. Fuck that guy.
*he spoke before Powell and went off about how Americans have more money than they did pre-Covid and said unemployment is 6% lol
If people like us who are engaged aren't applying pressure over these issues things won't get fixed.
There are things Biden could be doing with immigration that he's not and that's disappointing.
That impacts the lives of human beings in substantial ways.
All of these things are true.
