Pepper Place is pure chaos in the summer but still delightful to me. Got some very nice shiitakes, lady peas and heirloom tomatoes a couple of weeks ago. Even swung buy Son of a Butcher on the way out and got a whole beef short rib plate.
Not really. That guy lives near my lake house. Like an hour and a half from Birmingham. Never know which thread to use. Maybe random thoughts.
No not close to here, not what you’re looking for. Plenty of flea markets but no farmers market. You’ll have to drive for one. Clay county does have one but it’s only on Wednesday's I believe and it’s a bunch of locals coming together once a week to sell their produce super cheap so it varies what they have.
Possibly moving to Homewood next month. Any feedback on the area, restaurants, things to do, how far from Birmingham, traffic, etc
I honestly don’t know. Wife is a travel nurse and Homewood is one of the few options that made the cut
Homewood is nice, but imo it's the most overpriced part of town in the whole city. There are more affordable homes in Mtn Brook.
Honestly there aren’t any bad areas in Homewood. East Homewood is viewed as more desirable but I was mainly joking. Stone throw from downtown Birmingham with great stuff to eat and do all around you.
Thanks. We probably would only be there for one or two 13 week contracts. Would be renting an Airbnb or apartment
I hate the BWWB. Wife gets the emailed invoices but I autopay their bills, so once or twice a year I'll login to see what's been up. In January or February, I called to point out that having bills for precisely $123.86 two months in a row (both July and August 2021) prior to a way-higher-than-it-seems-like-it-should-be water bill in December seemed off (plus some other bills from 2021 that were identical in amount). They sent a person to read the meter, told me I was at fault and I had a leak, but the next month's bill dropped to $50 so I didn't care and dropped it. Just checked and noticed that every bill since I called has been precisely $50.65. I'm sure this is going to bite me in the ass whenever they figure it out
They are notorious for having lazy meter readers that just guess based off historical usage. My bill has never matched actual water usage
I'm just wondering how much of a headache this is going to be once they figure out they've been underbilling me for months on end and they send me a bill for the owed amounts. It's not like I should call them and let them know since, if I were to do so, my money would be on them overreacting and overbilling me like they were previously doing
They are going through some bad staffing issues. I think folks that got a random huge correction bill have been able to dispute the charges
I posted about it a few pages back. They didn't bill me for months then popped me for a few hundred bucks. Their website basically says they aren't reading meters and are asking people to pay their average monthly amount because they are understaffed. It's a shitshow.
Homewood is home to the original “Jack’s” location, congrats…it’s the finest fast food restaurant chain in Alabama.
They didn’t bill me for 3 months and then billed me $1300 turns out I had a water heater leak. Got it fixed took them the invoice. They will let me know in the next 8-12 weeks if I can get a credit on my account. I assume I will be told to kick rocks.
Agreed but I heard they immediately closed their doors and sold the business the day Otey's 2 was announced.
went there for the first time a couple weeks ago cause a couple of my pals are apparently regulars. place rules
I love it. When I lived around the corner, I was in there at least twice a week. Great place to watch sports and/or just saddle up to the bar.
Apprapo of today's water bill discussion Fwiw bc I have no idea how utilities are around Birmingham but we'd only read half the water meters every month, and the other half would just get charged the same as the previous reading. We'd also get usage estimates, which we'd use if the meter was unreadable. Many meters are unreadable depending on light/water. There are some tools to use but some can't even have the water pumped because of their positioning in the ground. Cliffs: a lot of water companies are winging it/low key corrupt
Found out yesterday Superior Grille had just closed for good. That sucks, I loved Superior Grille and we ate there pretty often.
Not Birmingham but I had a fun situation last fall. Had a leak in the box for a while on the city side. Finally called them and they came out and fixed their side, only to crack the shit out of my side. Came home and water is steadily running down the street. Called them back and they said it wasn’t on their side so wouldn’t fix it
Lots of talk about it slipping lately. Thoughts? I have a few friends from out of town that I'd like to take, but I haven't been in years and don't want to drive all that way for garbage.
Birmingham Legion are firing on all cylinders lately and the regular season still has another 2 months left with 6 home games. Won 6-0 at home tonight.
Every year they bring in a New Orleans chef for a weekend. This weekend, it was Eric Cook. https://www.al.com/life/2022/07/a-n...iconic-alabama-restaurant.html?outputType=amp It was a lot of fun.
