my phish-obsessed friend is trying to get me to go with him so that we can accomplish our own version of Analyze Phish i am not sold
yeah I know. scheduled this date night last minute and just going to roll the dice in that area and try to find a spot. if Bayonet isn't open we will try the Helen or Armour House bar.
From what I've been told from friends who work in the music industry, the Coke Amp is basically LN giving the middle finger to the Orion folks and the goal is to teach them a lesson. These are exactly my thoughts as well. Lotta uncovered/unprotected area in the pit. And pictures make it seem like the incline isn't very significant, so there's a greater than zero chance you can get stuck behind a neanderthal Alabamaman and unable to see
Have had similar conversations. It will really suck if they can’t get good bands to come. Place is awesome.
Coca-Cola looks like they intentionally set out to make the most generic, bland, completely devoid of any character or uniqueness, outdoor amp possible. It’s kindof stunning. Then add on top of that some pretty glaring looking design issues with sight lines, comfort/shade, parking, etc. Everything I’ve seen so far is beyond disappointing but I’m going to give it a chance of course.
Storm knocked my power out yesterday. After two hours of no update from AL power I assumed the worst and got the generator going and spent too much money at Home Depot on floor fans and extension cords. So naturally the power came back on at 7:30 last night without any prior update on restoration time. That’s how you properly jinx it.
Bayonet was great, by the way. we walked up there at 7:15 with no reservation and were seated immediately at the raw bar. We chose 4 different kinds of oysters from various parts of North America and it was delightful. Also got the Atlantic Mackeral and the Shrimp Ban Mi. Very solid and we will be going back. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and talked us through the whole menu. 10/10 highly recommend.
I can’t hate. A slice of regular ass Olexa white cake with buttercream icing heated up for a couple seconds in the microwave is heaven.
Moneysho...I mean, money quote: "My choice to seek comfort from a woman in no way takes away from my 40 years of volunteer community service record"
Can anyone tell me anything about this new sushi and raw bar restaurant that is opening up across the street from Bayonet and a one minute walk from Bamboo? Seems a littttle saturated https://www.johinnabhm.com/
Is there another omakase in Bham? Is Bayonet sushi/sashimi, or are you just lumping all raw fish into "sushi"?
I’ve been holding out hope that Johin’na would be our first legit sushi/omakase place in the city. But first glances at it have me concerned that its going to be another all style, no substance, Instagram restaurant.
https://www.al.com/life/2025/06/fir...amphitheater-before-gates-open-to-public.html Look at pic 27. Hard to tell for 100% certainty from the pictures, but it almost looks like there's no steps between rows and all seats are on a hill with a gradual incline... So if someone kicks your water bottle over while trying to get to their seat, it can just roll and roll and roll. I really really hope I am wrong
Friend sent some pics from the soft opening. The pile of rubble and abandoned hospital really add to the ambiance.
RIP Grant was a graduate of Carver-Montgomery and the University of Alabama. In 1978-1979, he worked as the first Black sports editor of the Crimson White student newspaper. He then spent 25 years at the Post-Herald, working with writers like Bill Lumpkin, Ray Melick and Paul Finebaum. In addition to covering high school sports, Grant also covered the Birmingham Barons for a quarter of a century and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2008.
I know it's not particularly deluxe, but I had an extremely good sashimi at Sushi Village tonight. Probably was 10 or 12 oz of fish. Really fatty wonderful salmon and great yellowtail.
