It is truly unfortunate that both Cane’s and Foosackley’s are being built in Hoover rather than somewhere closer to town
My hometown doesn't have a thread on here! I'm sure it'll happen one day and it probably won't be great.
There's about to be a big ole CFA in Roebuck. Why Chick-fil-A just demolished one of its busiest Alabama restaurants and bought the Walgreens next door https://www.al.com/news/2025/07/why...rants-and-bought-the-walgreens-next-door.html
That was one of the earliest non-mall stores, it was almost 35 years old, it was in dire need of that rebuild probably based on personal experience.
If anyone ever needs auto glass maintenance Kyle with Vulcan Auto Glass is awesome. Lawnmower busted out the rear door window on my suv and he came out and replaced it, but the glass had broken the latch mechanism. Have to head out of town tomorrow and the dealership was going to charge me $1,400 to replace it. He said that was unfair and called the dealership parts department. He’s buying the part and installing it for $800 total. #blessed
The new one in Mtn Brook Village is going better than expected. The probably a year old two laner where Grants Mill and Old Leeds Rd meet still has people struggling though.
that whole village is an abomination compared to what it used to be the Dallas-ification of Birmingham
This Legion match is a fucking disaster. Yikes. The defense in the 1st half was incomprehensibly bad. And two goals after the 90th min?
Even if you didn't know the game, it'd be obvious. Very un-pro. We'd be down 3-4 more goals without NVO.
Did Lag’s die? Noticed they’ve been out of a lot of stuff recently and are randomly closed today. Edit: not yet but sounds like they are revamping
Schedule seems like it would lead to that. I will say there've been two Sundays that I thought, "I should go there" and then realized they aren't open. Still haven't been, sadly. HOpe it works out.
Another comedian touring the deep south. This time a Welsh guy named Griff Rhys Jones. Only 2 episodes out, yay torrance, but episode 5 is BHM. Described as... S1 Episode 5 Birmingham (Alabama) Duration: 45 minutes 11 seconds45m Alabama is the true deep south. The home of American patriotism and the last bastion of rootin' tootin' old school confederate ideals. This is a place where people take their freedom very seriously. In the Deep South, Griff uncovers Alabama’s gritty past and surprising high-tech future.
Absolutely, and no argument here. I think the worst part of figuring out a restaurant would be getting all this right. And to be clear, people like me shouldn't be a big concern. We eat out...not a lot. But, we are trying to be intentional when we do.
their issue, and they were given advance warning of this, is that they tried to do too much upfront. So then when you inevitably find you have to cut back and adjust hours, there becomes a perception that the business is struggling that’s hard to shake. Morale does not seem good there rn
I thought the hours they wanted to operate seemed like a stretch, I don’t think the Electric adding a spot basically nextdoor is going to help
I really hope both survive, but yea electric already seems like a much more well-run operation. Have had two of their sandwiches and really liked both
I like Lags and not trying to pile on but I appreciate that the electric has lighter options and not just burgers and tot type foods.
Tangentially related, does anyone know that Bham burger review guy? I can’t take him seriously bc of his aversion to vegetable toppings and was not surprised at all that he LOVED Jack Browns (where the menu explicitly states they won’t add lettuce or tomato to anything)
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/aug/13/alabama-priest-robert-sullivan Not every day you find out that a priest that rotated through your childhood home parish was later living a double life in Birmingham and grooming a 17 year old stripper. As my brother said, in retrospect it’s probably not good that as teenagers we all thought he was the “cool priest”. Still many questions to answer, like, “how did he have $270k for an NDA?”
hey look at that, you probably know my gf’s family in that case lol (she sent me the article this morning and was understandably quite disturbed)
I honestly don’t disagree with anything he said about the burger other than it should have resulted in a 10/10 rating
Popped up on social media. As a fat guy, and part time Alabama resident, I get a lot of Jack's and Milo's content.
We got a call from OLS a few days ago letting us know our 3 year old had been taken off the waitlist after being on there for a year +. No thanks man. i would imagine they are making a lot of calls like that going forward.
For what it's worth, he's pretty aloof and everyone is pretty scandalized by this. I wouldn't let that affect you if you liked the school. Same for SFX, although I don't think they have a preschool.
