Rewatching, been fun. Used to buy the $80 seasons of wire/sopranos/oz so have 4-5x going through them. Think this is only 2nd time with this. Only s1 and do remember Jimmy and Richard though, that hurts
I love how he was such a key character for awhile and then boom, they opened up a crate and his ass was stuffed inside. they made him out to be just shy of Richard Harrow in terms of being a total badass and Nucky sent him off after Masseria and then just, well, dead. no cool scene where he kills a bunch of underlings and comes just shy of killing Joe, nothing. just a corpse in a wood crate.
so many amazing actors on the show. Michael Shannon was a force, Stephen Graham was terrific, Michael K Williams was always S-tier, Gretchen Mol was outstanding, and Jack Huston was my favorite. Bobby Cannavale as Gyp was such a good antagonist and then Michael Stuhlbarg has to be my favorite version of Rothstein by far. Richard Harrow's character arc was so good. they added him in as flavor for Jimmy initially but I think once they saw Huston's acting chops (and Michael Pitt making a foolish early exit of the show) they really expanded on him and let the character grow. he almost made it out, too. fitting end but so very sad.
One of the most brilliantly casted shows of all time. Michael Shannon is indeed a force of nature on this show. The intensity he can play a character is insane.
The first episode when Van Alden and the other dude are communicating in the phone booth, and Van Alden is just name dropping every major gangster in the game was a holy fuck moment. And then the hey dude my name is Al Capone
