First time I've been able to watch start-to-finish this year. Bux looks even worse than I'd guessed. But the outfield is nice. Duffey hurled two nice innings. Sanó looks fuckin great. Edit: forgot to mention, it's weird that neither Park nor Vargas are on the squad. But I don't miss 'em really.
He only has to hit .200 to be a positive WAR player. His defense has been outstanding and played a significant role so far. Seems like he continues to try to hard at the plate like the last 2 years. Would him just put the ball in play and forcing a quick throw at this point.
Oh I know he's valuable and needs to be in the lineup but he's just a turd out there with his at bat approach now. I'm fine with Molitor trying him third to see what happens but I'm not sure it's good for BB's mindbrain at present.
Posting just because it won't last and since the 2010 season we've only spent 14 days in first place. This is the first since June 8, 2015.
A little off topic, but I'm going to the sporting kc v mnu game on Sunday. Are there any good brunch places near the stadium?
Awesome. Just saw it. Got home going into the bottom of the ninth and dvr'd. They mentioned Dozier mighta hurt his ankle when Vargas pinched for him? What's that about?
It's happening! Didn't get to see the game today. Sounds like Berrios was cruising through five. It's obviously rad when Sano rakes but it's neat when we win without needing him to rake.
Miguel Sano currently leads the Twins in the following categories: H, AVG, OBP, SLG, HR, RBI, R, 3B*, BB and of course SO. If he stops at 2nd on his next few HRs he can probably take the lead on that as well. *Tied
I think the biggest surprise in any one player this year has been Sano's defense. The kid definitely put in some hard work during the offseason.
The entire defense is a complete 180 from what they were last season. Combine that with Sano's season so far, Mauer surging at the plate, some acceptable pitching, and the rest of the offense getting timely hits, and I dare say we might just have ourselves a ball club.
Berrios looks like he is emerging which helps a lot. If we are still hanging around in another month I would expect to see us look to add an arm in the rotation.
I've also been pretty happy with the way the callups have gone for the most part. I'm not versed enough in the ML availability to know whether some moves were necessary (like ol' what's-his-name making that terrible spot start), but to me I think the pen is even more pressing than a starter, esp if Santiago holds up.
Our best hope is for them to get the last wild card spot. That way, all of their playoff series will be on the road.
Second half starting up unfavorably. Can't help but feel .500 on the season will be best case scenario. But it's been a fun year. Haven't even really been engaged past the ASG for a while.
His worst fear was almost realized last night when he drew that full count. Batting leadoff in the 5th(?), he knew he couldn't be pinch run for and was doing everything he could to get out. If he'd gotten on base as the lead off hitter, he probably would have taken a 5 step lead and got picked off just so he wouldn't have to actually run the bases. Running from first to second probably would have put ol' Big Sexy in the grave.
Boy or girl? Was it's name Kirby? Harmon? Monday was my dad's birthday, as well. It was also on that date (August 7, 1953) that the Whiffle Ball was invented.
From 2 sources I see a range of 34.9% to 36% chance of the Twins making the playoffs. That feels amazing to type near the end of August.
i also heard Gonsalves might come up this year already too. And with the pen actually performing so admirably lately, with the exception of Santana start last week, all of a sudden things are really looking positive.
