I couldnt have called my shot any better. Kaleo Glass Animals Cage the Elephant Margo Price Royal Blood Umphreys McGee x2 Oh and RHCP killed it. I'll make a longer post later but amazing weekend.
The Umphrey's set Saturday night was incredible, fortunate that Sphlongle had visa issues. Mondo Cozmo Thursday night was also very good. My favorite two small acts were Unbreakable Bloodline and Yoshi Flower.
That Ump late night set was amazing in many ways. I walked by Mondo Cozmo and watched a few songs. I thought they sounded great, caught me off guard. Orwells covering Steady as She Goes was mind blowing for me.
Ump was amazing. Mondo Cozmo was great and I didn't know much of their stuff. The Orwells were one of my favorites this year. They don't disappoint. 2014 at Roo they destroyed the Miller products tent. I was hooked since then.
I guess I missed seeing the TMB totem.... I had a super lucky setup this year by being able to stay in Camp Det. John Taggert since a person in my group recently had back surgery and was able to get a handicap/accessible wristband. We could hear acts at Other very well.
Haha I like to set myself up high and then crash and burn when it's Drake, Calvin Harris, and Foo Fighters.
Probably one of my best Bonnaroo's out of the seven I've been to in terms of weather, set up, security, bathrooms, showers, overall people, ease of getting around, and seeing everything I wanted to see where I wanted to see it. Made up for a not totally great lineup, but I don't feel like I missed much....the benefit of a non deep lineup. Thursday Got there around 2ish? and got put in deep in Camp Maury Ballstein. We were going to go over to the woods by Camp Miyagi/Camp Mr. Mills where my GF (just the two of us this year...@keef ) set up last year, but the people we were going to meet over there we're there yet and I didn't want to get fucked. We did walk over there...fucking hike...most days and pregamed, because it's pretty cool weather-wise over there. Saw Walden (Athens band) The Orwells -Grabbed Merch and went back to camp bc GF wasn't feeling good. Got her set up and went back in solo. The Lemon Twigs - Fucking awesome show. Mix between Foxygen and Cage the Elephant show wise. Then just walked around trying to muscle memory the layout so I could not think, just go all weekend Herobust G Jones Friday Went into Centeroo around 11, bc GF thought the Aubrey Plaza movie was playing that day (actually Sunday, which I caught before we left for CR) They added an indoor air conditioned Roo Store, which had all the Roo gear which was nice Went back pregamed The Strumbellas Car Seat Headrest - Awesome as always. Crowd was kinda meh on the slow stuff early, but then they brought a girl that had been constantly tweeting at them for a year with videos adding cowbells to one of their songs and brought her on stage and after that the band and crowd were hype. D.R.A.M. Illenium - Didn't know him before but his show was fucking great The XX (Pit) - Saw them at Shaky Knees finally from a decent way back, but up close it flooded my fucking basement. So sexy. Glass Animals - Seen them about 4-5 times, and this was by far the worst. Lead singer was upping his showmanship, moving and dancing around a lot more, but wasn't in good enough shape and labored through the lyrics. We were also right in that area where everyone around us were big groups and all talking. U2- They put on a great show. GF left mid way through, I went to pee and meandered around in the back listening/watching Major Lazer- Actually one of the better shows I saw, had help though Big Gigantic - Best I've seen from them, great set Saturday Future Islands (Pit)- Been waiting forever to see them and they were everything I could have hoped for. The Head and The Heart (Pit) - One of my favorite bands, awesome as always Chance the Rapper - Made it in about 20 feet from the rail. It was an okay show, wasn't nearly as impressed as I thought it would be, plus he was like 10 minutes late. Pretty much exactly like the last time I saw him at Roo. Tory Lanez- Made me so fucking happy I left Chance a little early, got right in the middle of the tent. If you like rap, see him. Saw him at Shaky Beats in '16 and he climbed a lamp post. He just leaves everything out there. Crowd walked from the from of the tent to the back, right over us. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Good show and set. Probably wish I would have gotten closer to make the show better, but whatever. The crowd was one of the biggest I've ever seen at What. Flume - Fantastic as always, got fairly close to the rail. Marshmello - Also one of the best sets of the weekend, so much energy and one of the better/non doucey EDM crowds. Making The Other a stage this year was a great move and how it shifted everything was also great. Sunday Royal Blood - Kind of, could hear them pretty well from where we were pregaming Umphrey's McGee - Good show Milky Chance - Saw them chilling in the back, but they were good. What I expected. Lorde (Pit) - We moved over and we decently close to the rail, but the pit line wasn't super long so I grabbed everyone (4 girls and myself) and went and sat down just outside the middle of the pit line. Made friends, then when the line started filing in, let it go a little and then jumped in it. Everyone behind us definitely still made it in. This was probably my number one show of the weekend. She had a 30 minute delay because of her ear piece and shit, but fucking killed it after. Because Lorde was delayed 30 minutes if kinda fucked up the rest of things other than The Weeknd, bc nothing other than him got bumped back. Yellow Claw - Saw about 3 songs, was great Travis Scott - Made it over to Which just in time to see the last 3 songs, the main ones we wanted to hear. The Weeknd - Blew me away. Some how the GF navigated the crowd flawlessly and got us all the way to the middle of the soundstage, maybe 10 feet to the right. He sounded and put on a waaaay better show than I was expecting. God bless you if you read all that jumbled bullshit.
Official attendance number was 65k which is, I believe, the 3rd worst. Still a decent 20k improvement over last year.
So at the 53:00 mark, the drummer runs in the crowd on the outside rail. You can spot me as I am the only one wearing orange and a green frog on my head. As he scatters back to stage, you can watch the crowd start forming a circle and clapping. My dumbass strutted in the middle and was the bait for the mosh pit. Mother fucker. I heard screaming that set off all my spidey senses. Everyone is running toward me. I start shoulder blocking the best I can. My glasses, bandana, and frog get knocked off my head. I somehow manage to pick up all three off the ground while managing my way through it. Escaped and started head banging til the end of the set.
Haha nice, yeah either way would have been nice. I loved the big main stage party at Coachella, but sounds like the Bonnaroo set was a blast. They just sound like a great show no matter what
I have seen this billboard no less than 8 times in the last three weeks. They have one on both sides as you get closer to the farm.
Read through this thread in prep for Lolla. Thoughts on the following: Lorde, cage the elephant, glass animals, tove lo, milky chance, kaleo. Planning to see all of them as of now.
Nice. I'm pretty pumped for lolla this yr. Really looking forward to Arizona, lorde, kaleo, bishop briggs, glass animals, banks/sylvan esso (competing sets :/), chance, tove lo, and arcade fire.
Tex knows. Cage, Glass, and Kaleo will go down in my all time favorite Roo sets. I saw most of Tove Lo. Cool show for what it is. Just luckily happened to get my head right just before Habits.
One of the best crowd sing.a.longs Ive experienced at the Which. ~41:00 min with Cigarette Daydreams - Shake Me Down. In between, Matt said it was one of his best live experiences.
All good live. Probably the right decision vs what else is playing. No chance you make it from one side to the other to see Tove Lo and Milky Chance especially since they overlap. I'll probably see NGHTMRE over glass animals for bc I've seen them now 5-6 times and they're not getting better.
Usual “sources”. Nothing concrete yet. They don’t hit Tennessee on this tour. They finish a European tour a month or so before June. Haven’t played since 2011.
Looks like Gorillaz, Foo Fighters, and Tool/APC will be in Europe a week before Roo or during Roo soooo they are likely out. Jay Z hasn’t been there in a while and signed some big deal with LiveNation.
