I'm fine with Littlefinger getting more screen time since we all know he's a big player in the grand scheme of things. Roz and Craster, I don't get. Maybe they're just being used to push the characters of Jon and Littlefinger, but I'm not sure I agree with how they're doing it. They did a great job on season one though so I guess they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
could've sworn I saw a brief clip of Aeron 'baptising' Theon in one of the season previews. Just a thought but if I recall fully Victarion didn't really come around until book 3, right? Maybe they're waiting to intro the rest of the Iron Islands folks. I could be way off though, can't remember too well
yea you're right I do remember that. in the book, Aeron goes with Theon to the Stoney Shore but then stays there when Theon goes to Winterfell iirc.
yeah, Aeron thinks Winterfell isn't their concern and continues sacking villages on the Stoney Shore while Theon goes off to be a backstabber.
I saw that clip, and I thought it looked like Balon doing the baptising. In the big scheme of things is Aeron necessary but for the King's Moot? And even that could be called by someone else. I thought Martin focused waaaaay too much on Aeron in the books. Oh, and I guess there are many that think he was raped by Euron, and that he may play a role in his future downfall because of it.
I know he was the priest. He was sent with Theon to raid the Stoney Shore. When Theon went to Winterfell the Damphair continued raiding the villages on the Stoney Shore instead.
you are incorrect sir. Aeron goes to the Stoney Shore with Theon and proceeds to give many northmen over to the drowned god.
Don't read unless you watched episode 2 Spoiler Fuck all the changes they made in episode 2. I don't get why they felt like they had to do that with Jon and Craster at the end, and showing Stannis and Melisandre when it was just hinted at in the books. I guess Stannis' seed will make her shadow baby that murks Renly? And why did they kill Dany's bloodrider Rakharo already? He's still fucking alive going into the 6th book. And maybe I'm just imagining this, but did they not send Janos Slynt to be Lord of Harrenhall before he was sent to the Wall? Also don't like how they are making Littlefinger so brazen. Asha and Gilly are ugly as hell. I like Davos a lot. Still trust in the producers of the show, but I hope they don't make it a habit of changing so much.
Don't read if you haven't seen episode 2. Spoiler Agree on most all your points, but Slynt never saw Harenhall before he was sent to the wall. I don't mind that Gilly is ugly. She is inbred, and falls for Sam's fatass. It just makes sense. "Yarra" was unnecessarily ugly. Her head shots look ok, but they made her look uglier in the show for some reason. Perhaps to show the spartan way of life that exists on the Iron Islands. Stannis fucking Mel is kinda weird, but explains the shadow baby thing a little more clearly. Maybe he stops fucking her after Courtney Penrose due to his honor, which would explain why there are no more shadow babies. I know the reason he didn't take her to KL was because he feared she would start getting all the credit for his victories, which may be another reason he stops fucking her. I hate the twist in Jon/Craster's story line. I'm fine with Jon seeing the sacrifice to explain that to viewers and gain sympathy for Sam's dumbass intention to help Gilly, but Craster fucking with Jon is a major change. Maybe it helps explain why he is sent with Quorin to the frost fangs? I was really hoping that scene would be where Jon follows ghost to find the dragon glass stash, but I guess that is supposed to happen at the fist.
Only read if you watched episode 2 Spoiler Pretty much my exact reaction after watching the last 2 scenes. Completely unnecessary to make it THAT obvious. I mean the book hints at it enough for you to make it out. I feel like the producers think that since the show is so popular that some dumbass showfags wouldnt figure it out so they have to make things that were hinted at ( Renly being gay, Littlefinger's behind the scenes involvement, Stannis fucking Melissandre to get the shadow and Craster feeding the babies to the Whitewalkers) extremely obvious by just showing them. Also have no idea how they solve the Craster and Jon Snow issue and why it was necessary.
i know we've all read the books itt, but stop fucking posting about next week's episode. not all of us can watch it yet
there's a difference when we've all read the books at our disposal and some of us having no choice but to wait for sunday to watch the show
Just watched Episode 2. Lots of liberties being taken so far this season, hopefully they dont get too far off the story.
Should rename this the bitch about any and every change from the books thread. I mean, the series is some of the most detailed shit ever, thousands of pages long, told through various viewpoints, some of which are strictly third person, adapted to tv for a mass audience. It isn't a big surprise there are changes and I, for one, really enjoy the show along with the books.
don't think anybody is bitching or not enjoying the show, it's just something worth discussing. some of these changes aren't minor and will have an effect on the characters and story going forward. I see nothing wrong with pointing them out and discussing them.
That's fine. I understand changes, but some seem unnecessary and seem to alter the storyline. Change I didn't mind: No nameday tourney for Joffrey in Ep. 1, but rather a modified melee. It makes sense because of the cost involved and repetition of another tourney in Season 2. Change I did mind: Spoiler The conflict between Jon and Craster. Not sure why they did this, but I will wait to see how it plays out. As long as it doesn't alter Jon's ultimate story line, I will be fine with it.
One thing I thought was too much in the first season was the gay scenes, but reading the other books made it more obvious. Not watching ep 2 until Sunday so I don't about the Jon and Craster stuff. But if they show the walkers again I'm cool with that. One thing that does concern me is leaving the Reeds out. Although the show could work with Osha doing that. They will have to figure out something to do with Rickon but that shouldn't be too hard since he's barely in the books anyway.
I remember reading when Theon was headed to the Iron Islands. It said that girl had big boobs. Show, you disappoint me.
thoughts on points brought up about ep 2 Spoiler I think that part of the difficulty for the producers is the fact that there is so much sublety in the books but in the show viewers have to get certain things despite characters only getting like 6 mns of screen time an episode. We got to read about Stannis and Melisandre for what, 70 pages of prologue and Davos chapters before the Shadowbabies stuff. Viewers really don't know much about her and while the book hints constantly about Stannis sleeping with her the show can't afford to be too subtle or it'll get lost among the other 50+ minutes of show. I didn't have a huge issue with that scene because it was kind of assumed in the books anyway although not as clear as 'I'm gonna use your sperm to make demon babies'. With the Craster scene, I can't recall exactly what happened in the books other than for some reason Crastor attacked someone and the watch ended up fighting each other, but I think that's on the way back. Don't know how I feel about that yet. They did ugly up Asha/Yara a bit but at the same time the Iron Islands don't seem like the place for pretty girls.
We can't even talk about the 2nd episode in this thread without spoilers? Spoiler I never even picked up on the insinuation that stannis and mellisandre fucked when i was reading the book. so that was a shock to me.
they're definitely doing things to trim down the story which is understandable. including every little plot development in its entirety would be impossible.
Spoiler I remember the discussion of him sulking on Dragonstone after the Blackwater, and that she was the only one that was allowed to see him. Supposedly the two were with each other day and night, but I didn't get a sexual vibe from that. Apparently there was talk of her warming his bed that I totally missed.
FUCK YOU HBO HBO addresses early episode release rumors By Winter Is Comingon April 3, 2012 Filed Under: News The second episode of season two was briefly available today on HBO GO in the Netherlands and Poland, but has since been removed. I reached out to HBO about the reports we had heard of these territories claiming they will be airing every episode of season two a week early and they confirmed that that will not happen. The episodes will continue to air in the US first and then on the foreign subsidiaries sometime thereafter. Winter Is Coming: Crisis averted! I’m going to go ahead and close down the previous early reaction thread, since it was obviously not HBO’s intention to have this episode out there at this time. Please wait until Sunday before engaging in any further discussion about episode 12. Thanks!
