I've really, really been slacking on books this year. I'm ashamed, but I guess that's what happens when you get out of college and have to work all the time. I'm ready to retire.

    1. The Art of Strategy: A Game Theorist's Guide to Success in Business and Life by Avinash K. Dixit and Barry J. Nalebuff
    2. Re-read books 4 and 5 of ASOIAF
    3. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

    On deck:

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

    In the hole:

Kingkiller Chronicle books by Patrick Rothfuss
    Slaughterhouse 5
    Cat's Cradle
    Catch 22

I need to finish those up before the year is out or I will hate myself.

Last free weekend until next year basically (I love football season, but man does it take up my weekends!), so I finished 3 books, and it was glorious. Had a goal of reading 20 books this summer (it was originally 10, but I blew through that pretty quickly) and I think I'll be able to finish #20 this week.

Great book. Teacher read it to my class in sixth great then I read it again a few years later.
Legitimately hilarious. If you like his Twitter/columns, you'll love it. I legit laughed out loud a bunch when I was going through it, including once in front of my future father in law. Asked what I was reading. Was weird explaining who PFT is.

Finished Devil in the White City last night. I thought it was above average, but I wouldn't call it great.

I liked Cathedral better, but they're both pretty great.

The titular story read differently because of Birdman.

Have you seen Short Cuts by Altman?

At any rate, I can't do enough to profess my love for Carver. Birdman is way high up my list for recent movies I've seen recently.

Dude actually told my aunt her shit sucks (poetry) so there's that.

It was good, and I enjoyed learning about something that I had absolutely no clue even existed, but it was just too in the middle of fiction and non-fiction for me. It's supposed to be non-fiction, but he definitely takes some leeway in adding his own narrative and gives it a fiction vibe. So as fiction, it wasn't too entertaining because he couldn't add too much and give it a real plot or anything. As non-fiction, it didn't really teach me too much and was kind of focused on a finite event and his added fiction-like narrative took away from the non-fiction part for me. I also normally read non-fiction on like an era or broader topic so this was just a little different for me.

I don't know. I liked it, but I probably won't read another one of his books any time soon.

Also, I'm sure it might have been more interesting to you since you're in Chicago and I've never been there.

Fair enough. Historical fiction is probably my favorite genre, so it's right in my wheel house.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but felt the need to tell this story. I started Lee Child's Personal this morning on the subway on the way to work. Realized 15 pages in that I'd read that book already.

    9. The Martian - Andy Weir
    10. ASOIAF (4-5) - George R. R. Martin
