yea i literally read about 75 pages of Patriot Games and I can see how people could find it entertaining...just not my cup of tea...the writing is just cheesy and not very good. Bout halfway through Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy now and I'm surprisingly impressed with Le Carre's writing , no bells and whistles(i.e. shitty Clancy descriptions)

Speaking of Clancy, it appears Tom Hardy is going to play Clark in the Without Remorse movie. Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner also likely to join the cast.

Finished the first game of thrones book the other week and have been taking a break before school. Been really tempting to pick up book two or ready player one though.

Both are great, but Ready Player One is half as big but such a fun read. I wanna read it again and I read it for the first time a few months ago.

Im in the same boat. I took a break and am reading America Sniper to break it up. All i really wanted to do is get ahead of the TV show, which I am, so I may read a few others before I start a Feast for Crows

ASOIAF does get a bit cumbersome around book 4. I think they may be some of the best books ever written, at least in their genre, but it is almost impossible to hold interests through 4000+ pages all the time. Plus, new characters are always being introduced and at some point, your brain just says, "Fuck it, dude. Slow down."

Definitely the hardest to get through. I was humming right along in the series when I got to it. Took more than twice as much time to read it compared to ASOS, even though it's shorter. But the last 25% is good and I've loved ADWD thus far. Just gotta power through.

funny - I just finished Deal Breaker - my wife has been trying to get me to read the Bolitar series for years

about to read the first three Michael Connelly books - I've never read them - I started with The Poet - which by the way is the single best thriller book I've ever read - and went from there - years later now I'm circling back to read The Black Ice, The Concrete Blonde and The Black Echo

Anyone familiar with Containment by Christian Cantrell?

    Containment

    by Christian Cantrell (Goodreads Author)
As the Earth's ability to support human life begins to diminish at an alarming rate, the Global Space Agency is formed with a single mandate: protect humanity from extinction by colonizing the solar system as quickly as possible. Venus, being almost the same mass as Earth, is chosen over Mars as humanity’s first permanent steppingstone into the universe.

Arik Ockley is part of the first generation to be born and raised off-Earth. After a puzzling accident, Arik wakes up to find that his wife is almost three months pregnant. Since the colony’s environmental systems cannot safely support any increases in population, Arik immediately resumes his work on AP, or artificial photosynthesis, in order to save the life of his unborn child. Arik’s new and frantic research uncovers startling truths about the planet, and about the distorted reality the founders of the colony have constructed for Arik’s entire generation. Everything Arik has ever known is called into question, and he must figure out the right path for himself, his wife, and his unborn daughter.(less)

Benefit of that board is you can sort books by topics, or what you're in the mood to read... This thread has everything, and it's harder to find exactly what you want, because we tend to all have different preferences.

Like if someone wanted to read "Historical Non-Fiction" I personally would have no interest, but if there was a thread on it they could see some good reccos right away. Flip side is maybe one day you are, and you know it's been discussed in this thread at some point, but it'll take you forever to find. Just my :twocents:

Well, except for the TMB Buckeyes. Is there a remedial reading thread?

I am purposefully waiting until after Labor Day. Once that has passed, hopefully we (the readers) will fall into some kind of normalcy and get back in the groove again. My work is starting to level out, so hopefully everything will come together.
