Haha seriously. I was laughing my ass off in the Cloud Atlas thread at him trying to figure out those weird dialects and stuff from listening
I'm reading this one for when I fly right now... Otherwise I listen while I'm getting ready, cleaning, or working out. Spoiler I've read about 100 pages in a month
meh...it happens, I wouldn't consider Dune one of my top 10 books or anything. Did you see/like the movie?
After hearing you swear by Ready Player One, and then listening to it myself, I buy it. I have learned that reviews are hard to trust, because everyone has different opinions. I am also not sure people are 100% honest with themselves when they claim to like some of the highly regarded literary classics.
Poll up for book club in January... Please only vote if you will read the book that wins. http://the-mainboard.com/index.php?...uary-2013-happy-new-year.118637/#post-8379546
Celemo - get in the reading club this month. You always talk about missing out on it. NOW IS THE TIME!:doitfaggot:
Don't know why I don't see some of you motherfuckers in the TMB Book Club sub-forum. Not like you have to pay dues or anything.
Just finished - The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien - I never read this in highschool (I think it is on a lot of reading lists) but had a roommate recommend it to me. I was expecting a story more focused on the actual war, but I loved the storytelling and focus on the inner battles O'Brien and others experienced. Very good read. Also just finished The Rum Diary by Hunter S Thompson - I have always been a big fan of his lunacy and ridiculousness, so I enjoyed reading about some drunk ass journalists get into shit in San Juan. I think I might pick up Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail next.
Team, give yourself some time to read ASOIAF. I read the first two and got burned out quick. I have anxiety of starting ASOS because I know, while its going to be awesome, its going to be a fucking chore.
Got the kingdom of Ohio, wolf hall, and the 100 year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared for Christmas...just finished life of pi...which was great, although I don't understand why people made it out to be some eye opening religious work
let me know if Wolf Hall is any good. Wife was bored by it and didn't finish it, and I want to know if I should give it a shot; I'm much smarter than her.
Definitely the best book Ive read in past 6 monts, maybe year. There is a discussion thread on the book club forum. It is spoilered so it wont ruin anything if you take a look
Loved The Passage and The Twelve, so I started reading The Stand by Stephen King because I had heard some comparisons. Just finished The Stand and it blew them out of the water. What a great book. Only other Stephen Kings novel I've read besides all 7 of The Dark Tower series.
I posted a review of Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk on the Book Club board a few days ago. It's one of the best books I've read in quite a while
I loved it the whole way through. It gets bogged down at points but I was never taken out of the story.
As someone who has read a ton of Stephen King over the years, I would put my top 10 something like this: Dark Tower 1-4 The Stand It Tommyknockers Misery Insomnia The Shining Needful Things The Talisman Firestarter Just missed 11/22/63 The Dead Zone The Dark Half Green Mile
10-4, thanks. I've read through the first chapter with the backstory on Jeanette and Amy, was really hard to take, I can't even imagine leaving my child.
Yeah. It was good, but nothing I really didn't know (then again, I've read a lot about Lincoln). I'd recommend it.
yep, that's the mark of a good writer. The books I have read by Dennis Lehane have done it, I had to force myself to read them, so good but so hard to take. Anything with kids gets to me ever since I became a dad. Looking forward to getting to the good stuff in this one.
Currently reading this: http://www.amazon.com/When-You-Catch-Adjective-Kill/dp/0767920783 I dabble at writing professionally and am reminded every time I read a book like this how horrible I am. But I love it
Have you read The Wind Through the Keyhole yet? I'm starting it next because its short and I can knock it out with plenty of time to read the January book club choice. LKRFN88jp I have 11/22/63 on my kindle and will get around to it eventually
Yeah it was dec. Pretty short. Pretty entertaining. Nothing earth shattering. Not related to Roland or anything; pretty much a standalone tale
Im currently reading The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bounderant. Im only 100 pages in, but its really good. About a family of moonshiners in the 30s. Its historical fiction, but its based on the authors grandfather and his brothers, who were real life moonshiners back then. Pretty interesting so far.
Inception style story inside a story inside a story. Was hoping for more teenage Roland because that's my fave Roland but still an enjoyable read
About 100 pages in...took a few chapters to get used to the perspectives, and I flip back to the character/lineage tables a good bit, but I'm really into it...which is remarkable since it was allegedly written by a woman.
I really like Wolf Hall. It's not spectacular writing, but it's great for anyone with an interest in English history. She definitely did her research. And she really does a good job of creating credible personalities for historical figures. Will probably read the follow book soon.
