Been searching for a EH Taylor Cured Oak. Heard it's really good and my state got a few. Nearly impossible to get limited Bourbons in VA though. All ABCs are state run and all limiteds are special order only. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks most bottles go to a select few where money changes hands and those bottles end up on the black market.

I have been so busy lately that I haven't had time to drink. I've needed one (or thirty, depending upon the day), but haven't gotten around to it.

Time to get into full alcoholic mode.

Seems like finally some news coming about the PVW theft in '13.

Sheriff: Possible Indictments Forthcoming In Pappy Van Winkle Theft

New information regarding the bourbon heist that made international headlines will be released next Tuesday, according to the Franklin County Sheriff.

The sheriff's department has been hot on the trail of the stolen Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon and Sheriff Pat Melton now tells LEX 18 that the case is bigger than anyone ever expected. The story begins with the theft of the Pappy back in October of 2013 Then, Gilbert Toby Curtsinger was arrested last month after deputies found five stolen barrels of bourbon from the Wild Turkey Distillery in Curtsinger's home. Deputies also found a big stash of steroids and guns at the residence.

Curtsinger was an employee of Buffalo Trace Distillery. That is the same distillery which produces Pappy Van Winkle. LEX 18 has learned that Franklin County deputies have also recovered bottles of Pappy Van Winkle linked to Curtsinger. Coincidence? LEX 18 has uncovered facts that point to an organized theft ring between employees at two different distilleries.

At least one employee of Wild Turkey is under investigation for allegedly working with Curtsinger to move the barrels out of Wild Turkey.

The Franklin County Sheriff will hold a news conference on Tuesday April 21 to discuss the case. The initial press conference was to be held on April 14 but developments in the case delayed that date a week.

LEX 18 has been told there will possibly be several indictments, including at least one employee who works at Wild Turkey.

Longshot, But has anyone here tried Watershed Bourbon? I doubt anyone has as it is a local distillery here in Columbus.
It's good as fuck, and I have been drinking the shit out of it lately. But wasn't there some kind of law that said bourbon could only be used to describe whiskey made with the bourbon recipe in kentucky?

It doesn't have to be made in Kentucky but it does have to follow a certain recipe.

    1. Made in the US
    2. 51% corn

some other stuff Artoo would know more.

    Produced in the United States
Made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn
Aged in new, charred oak barrels
Distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume)
Entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5%)
Bottled (like other whiskeys) at 80 proof or more (40%)

I always get confused and think that there is a minimum aging requirement but there is not. The minimum age is only a Bottled in Bond requirement.

Surprisingly seems legit. Surprising because it looks like they actually distill and age their own shit. This is not the norm for small craft distillers. They are doing it the easiest way though. Distill some whiskey, put it in barrels to age. Switch production over to Gin and Vodka which requires no aging and can immediately start making you some money while you wait for the bourbon to become delicious.

Bourbon is the third product they released. They started with the Gin and Vodka. I love the Gin, the vodka is decent.
Then came Bourbon, then the Bourbon Barrel Gin.
I'm planning on touring their facility soon

Woodford Reserve is quality. As far as abnormal, they have the Personal Selection option, which my employer chose to have made(Its very good), and the Master's Collection, which is finished off in Pinot Noir barrels. The pinot noir adds a surprising fruity taste to a good bourbon.

IMO, the last Master's Collection was the Four Oak or Four Wood or whatever it was in like 2011 or something.

Pretty sure it is the same 1792, just rebranded.

Anyone here an Alabama resident? I'm looking for Weller or some kind of wheater that's not as rich as ORVW, but can't find anything in Birmingham. I don't really have occasion to go to GA or TN until this summer.

Also, got a bottle of McKenna single barrel that's really good. Bottled in bond, which is sort of weird these days, but great bourbon.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a bottle of the Old Forrester Signature. 20 bucks for a fifth. 100 proof. Nice burn to it, some nice hints of vanilla and caramel. Smooth.

Also just bought 2 cases of weller 12

Out of principle I don't buy anything from Brown-Forman. I'm a simple man and I stick with the distilleries that we work with, which is pretty much all of them except B-F and Diagio.

Not surprising at all. B-F only has the one location in Louisville that I'm aware of. They have several warehouses spread over a sq mi of the city, probably even smaller area than that. So, all the barrels they have are getting pretty much the exact same treatment all throughout their aging time.

Compare that to Heaven Hill who has warehouses all over Nelson County here. Those barrels can receive quite different weather/conditions from one warehouse to another. Same with Jim Beam. You can taste the core distillate at the heart of these bourbons but all their different brands are pretty distinct.

Old Forrester Signature is one of the best price points on the market. A notable bourbon at $20.00. I think its a name that's going to rise in popularity over the next few years.

I like OF 100 a lot. It is much cheaper than BT here, so I buy it for myself. the regular one, as someone pointed out, is the same juice as WR, maybe even same proof.
