I don’t. Here for work. Was thinking about stopping by their store. Do they have good prices?
Would anyone here pay 299.99 for Bookers 30th? That’s $100 over MSRP...
They do have pretty good prices. You aren't going to just get super rare stuff there but you will get a lot more than most of us will regularly find on the shelf. You can set email notifications for when certain things come back into stock as well. They emailed my 6 months after I wanted to track down a certain scotch. Cask is another cool place to stop by
I stopped by Cask. Prices were stupidly high. Total rip off store.
K&L I may just stop by and see what they have.
Where do you live? What’s something you’d want that you don’t find on the shelf?
I wouldn’t pay that for myself, their values dipped in secondary significantly since they dropped, they regarly trade for $425 or less right now, but if you like Bookers it’s not an obscene price.
That sucks about Cask. They used to have some cool store picks.
You can also go on K&L site and look at live inventory of specific products. Alabama has such shit selection that I can't get anything on the shelf. They have Sazerac, good 4 roses single barrel picks, Hamilton rums, good scotches
I’d love to try a good store pick of eagle rare because a normal bottle is one of my favorite things to affordable drink.
What sorts of store picks?
You are right, K&L has excellent prices, but nothing rare is in stock unfortunately.
I have heard it is nothing that special.
Its good, not amazing
Mines an ABC store pick, so nothing special by any means. I just cracked it open, and my first impression is that I think I like how it smells better than I like how it tastes. My bottle smells like candied apples and cinnamon, it’s initially really smooth but has a mild burn on the finish. It’s not something I’ll go out of my way to buy again but I’m not mad it’s in my cabinet either.
This came in the mail today...
I like that way better than Bookers 30th and I love Bookers
Got these in the mail today.
I love four roses releases usually, I’m going to sit on this one for a special occasion.
Boone County 12 year. Anyone had it? Good?
I would fly there once a year for that.
Got a DM from my beer/bourbon person that more Weller is coming in next Thursday and she’ll hold me a bottle.
This is why you stop by a few times a month and talk to liquor store employees. They’ll give you the good stuff over people they’ve never met.
Story time x2. I saw some in CA for $99 a bottle, ugh.
Bourbon group raffle. Got it on the Fireball for only $20.
I won it in a raffle. Only way I’m going to snag something like that.
How much do you guys spend losing raffles to win something like this? Is it actually more economical than just buying a bottle?
I buy a couple slots a week on bottles I’m never going to get my hands on otherwise, for example I just bought a couple slots for a 2017 William Larue Weller, it was expensive so I probably won’t buy any slots for a couple of weeks but I’ve won some good bottles via raffle, Ive won an EC 18, a bookers 30th, the four roses 130th, and hopefully after tonight a WLW
What groups are you in? I need to expand my horizons.
But have you done the math on everything you’ve spent losing and what if you just bought secondary market?
My WLW18 is still unopened. Can’t imagine what the occasion will need to be.
I think One Two added me to one, and the other is attached to BSM, you have to be in there to get into their raffle group.
Because of the bottles I’ve won, I’m in the green, probably won’t be the case always, but it’s a less painful way of landing some of these bottles. I only do the ones tied to the Illinois fireball so there’s only 10 slots, as opposed to powerball which are like 26 slots. I usually buy two slots for whatever I’m in out of habit, just my ritual.
Had a few bulleits at the bar, a few more woodford reserves at home watching the Caps game, I'm not in any lottery. Good night and god bless.
So you could be very quant about it. 20% chance to win and look for bottles where the cost for 2 slots is <20% of the going secondary price of a bottle. Over time that should come out in the green.
Yeah I don’t get that fancy about it tbh. I just buy slots on bottles I want occasionally and cross my fingers.
I've probably spent about $100 in 2 weeks on spots and won once. Going to take a break unless. Someone puts up ETL or RHF.
I’ve seen a couple with those paired together.
Yeah I tried for one last week. Haven't seen anything lately. I have a spot on the Michters 10 year for tonight's FB. Good Luck on the WLW! I thought about it.
I’d like a Michters 10 bourbon to go with my Michters 10 Rye...
Alright, any way I can get up in these raffles? I’ve pretty much exhausted what I can get by normal means
Rolled my number, Weller is mine!
Dude, that’s like an $800 bottle on secondary, right? Congrats. How much were the slots?
I paid $68 apiece for two slots, so my cost on the bottle is $136 if I traded it, it would trade for a value of around $700 give or take.
$136 is not too much above MSRP + tax. Huge win.
Yep, the thing I’m excited about is it’s something I’m literally never going to have the chance to get in a store.
And if you did, not at MSRP. I got mine like that only because I live in a controlled state and I won a lottery - just very lucky. The funny thing is, your odds were much better than mine to win, I just paid $0 to enter.
Haha to be fair, I won a lottery also...
Which fireball hit tonight?
good win against the Bruins. that's 14 in a row wtf. was at my local watering hole watching that game and drinking combos of High Life and Beam. Beam is trash. Eagle Rare tomorrow night.
