When you're in a store and you think you've struck out on bourbon go check the rum shelf. Foursquare 2004 or 2005 single blend rum is incredible. Its a 12 year old rum finished in a bourbon barrel and 120+ proof. Tastes like hot bananas foster. You're welcome.

I don't care for any alcohol under 95 proof

I’m the opposite. I like my bourbon at just over 80 proof. One reason I enjoy this thread is the variety of preferences that posters bring to the discussions.

I celebrate all pours for their merits but yes when it comes to bourbon 100 proof is what I generally prefer

That $2,000 price tag ain’t for the wrapping. If I’m going to sell a bourbon for that much it’s going to look like the Versailles of bourbon and it won’t add more than $75 to the total.

I wonder if it's an attempt to stifle the secondary market on these bottles, or if it's just a cash grab.

Think about it: 20 year old product from a great distillery. ONLY 250 BOTTLES!!!’ Supply and demand model at work. There will be 250 suckers/investors who will pay that. Many of them will turn to the secondary market in 2 years and put a $5,000 price tag on them.

It all turns to piss at some point. I can't justify spending $2,000 on a bottle.

I love eagle rare so I can't imagine how good that would be.

I could also never afford a 2k bottle

At Aria we had a 75 year old single malt scotch that we sold for $5,000/ounce (less than a shot) and we had regulars who asked for it. So, I know there are people who will buy the ER20.

Plantation OFTD is 130+ proof and is a 30 dollar liter most places. Split based old fashioned with it and plantation pineapple is incredible.

Heaven Hill and Willett are right next to each other. Both are hit and miss on what they have available at their gift shop, I know some people here have mentioned that Willett will release stuff randomly.

I guess it depends on your definition of rare, but I've seen EH Taylor there, they have Blantons there right now, and sometimes they'll have Stagg Jr.

As with most distilleries down there, they don't really announce when something shows up, you just have to time it right with a little luck.

I bet you that bottle moves at $8-10,000 with that limited of a run on a name brand bottle like that all day. Which is insane.

On releases where there is a pretty decent chance of a release, yes, but a lot of times Willett will randomly release their allocated bottles.

I hate that I bring myself to line up once a year for a couple hrs. No way am I doing that overnight for some bottles.

Stumbled into a Blanton’s connection. Was in one of my local stores and overheard a guy asking if they still had Blanton’s. Cashier pulls a bottle out of the office and quotes the guy a price. Dude says it’s available at Publix for a price I know wasn't accurate.

Long story short, I bought it, found out their delivery schedule and asked the guy to keep me in mind when they get it in. Productive day.

On a side note, Publix does get blantons on a semi regular basis always worth poking your head in.

Was actually in a Publix liquor store this past weekend. Asked the cashier about Blanton’s. She said, “We got a bottle a couple of weeks ago. We’ll probably get another one around Father’s Day.” She was serious. We both laughed.

Good haul in Chicago today- have a store recommendation for anyone who goes. It’s in little Village but everything is MSRP (or under) and they have some good stuff. Got a Stagg Jr for $44!

I also snagged an Old Ezra 7 Barrel Proof from Binnys for $40

Moreno’s is my jam. Great craft beer, wine and tequila as well. Much bigger store than you can tell from the outside, and a lot of people still don’t know about it because it’s in Little Village.

Which Binny’s did you go to? The Lincoln Park location has the biggest bourbon selection, but the South Loop one tends to have rare picks that sit on the shelf longer.

Warehouse Liquors (downtown) and Garfield’s (Bucktown) are hit or miss, but the staff is knowledgeable at both and if you have a rapport will sometimes bring you rare picks from the back.

    What did I miss visa?

The guy at morenos was super nice and knowledgeable. And claimed they put everything on the shelf - nothing in the back.

Got the Ezra at south loop Binnys. It’s in the glass room in the back. Was thinking about going to Lincoln Park today before the airport but not sure I’ll have time.

I went to warehouse. They have a Blantons and eagle rare store pick today if you can get over there. I bought the Blantons yesterday. They obviously didn’t know me so didn’t go to any trouble for me.

Also, pperc15 would be advised to call it Little Village and not Little Mexico haha. Nice haul. Moreno’s is great.

was grabbing some Turkey 101 and some Johnny Drum at a local bottle shop when I saw my neighbor from down the street working. he's a manager there. asked him if they ever got any Orphan Barrel stuff that isn't predestined to anyone. told him about how much I loved Barterhouse from when I tried it years back.

turns out he had a bottle stashed in back and gave it to me with a 10% discount.

I'm drinking some right now. not a bad day at all.
