I haven't tried that, I'll have to give that a shot.
simple syrup is just equal parts water/sugar. I just do a cup of water/cup of sugar and boil it down then throw it in something to store in the fridge
I just sneak around the neighborhood and steal hummingbird nectar from the feeders. #lifehack
The red dye really compliments a high proof rye
Anyone tried the latest ECBP? I think 135 proof
I have it, but I haven't opened it. Still working on my C918 bottle. A few people I know have tried it and said it's fantastic though.
I have two ecbp c918’s that’s a delicious bottle
I'll even do 2:1 sugar vs. water and just use a 1/4 or 1/3 of oz for old fashioneds.
Picked up another bottle of Blantons. Have 3 now so I should be good to open one up. I had a $10 off coupon at BevMo too so it was kind of a no brainer. Didn’t want to open one when I only had 2.
What's that now?
Huh? I wanted to have more than two bottles of blantons before I opened one in case I had a hard finding it in future. Now that I hit a third I can open one.
Jack Daniels No. 27 Gold for $99 available in PA now. How is it? Good price?
It’s 80 proof and expensive I see it on the shelf dusty all the time down here in Florida.
This tastes like licking a Christmas tree. Legit has a heavy cedar/pine flavor going on that would be nice if it wasn’t so overpowering
save it til the holidays
This doesn’t sound appealing in the way that I find Midwinter nights dram appealing because it tastes like Christmas to me.
I’m not a huge Knob Creek fan but a store near me got this pick. This was a short barrel (only 66 bottles). Opening tonight.
Any chance you can get another? I’ll trade $$ or bottles
Unfortunately, I can't. I got on a wait list for this and due to there only being 66 bottles, there's none to go around.
Got the Old Scout Single Barrel Select. It’s pretty good.
Picked up a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof over the weekend. Comparing its color to an Elijah Craig Small Batch store select, the ECBP is noticeably darker in color. I was under the impression that Elijah Craig Small Batch store select was the same thing as Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. I know the store select is missing the 12 year age statement, but in all other respects I thought they were the same. Is that not the case?
Different bottles,Store picks are bottled at 94 proof I believe, I’ve got one at home, the barrel proofs are usually 125proof or more and they’re delicious.
I imagine small batch is proofed down, thus the color. Iirc small batch is ~16% lower abv than barrel proof.
Correct. Both store selects I have are 94 proof, while the ECBP is 135 proof.
I haven’t cracked my store pick but the barrel proof is a really really good bottle. I have batch c918 I believe it is.
Got it, so the store select is blended, and that's why it lacks the age statement.
In that case, glad I grabbed the ECBP, as I almost passed it over.
The biggest difference between barrel proof and normal bottles are that normal bottles are blended with water to lower the proof and make more booze to sell. That's why they tend to be more prevalent. Barrel proof/cask strength is typically the stuff that comes right out of the barrel.
Yeah, I was just under the impression that "store select" meant that the store got its own barrel and had the distiller bottle and label it. As a result, there was no discernible difference between a barrel proof/cask strength bottle and a store select. I guess that is different for Elijah Craig.
The store may still get the whole barrel, but end up with a lot more bottles due to the watering down to proof.
Yes but to add, lowering the proof isn't solely to increase the yield, most bourbon makers drop the proof of their bourbon to what they consider the optimal sipping taste to the average bourbon drinker. If you take any bourbon (especially cask strength) and add a little water, it can change the flavor profile significantly. There are some that drop it to the legal minimum (ahem, Basil Hayden) which is probably for yield, but most do it to optimize the taste of the bourbon.
I talked to my liquor store guy who got a EC barrel for his store pick and EC specifically does not allow store picks to be barrel proof. They don't want competition for their award winning whiskey.
Lucked up on some Belle Meade Reserve for $75 a bottle on the secondary. Seen it in stores for 299.99 a bottle so feel quite good about my purchase.
I got a bottle of it a few weeks ago. First pour was meh, but it's opened up a little bit since then and I like it. I passed on a bottle of that murray hill special release that apparently people are going bonkers for. I'm not chancing 150 bucks on a bottle I know nothing about.
McKenna 10 BIB released this week in PA. Was able to get two bottles. Goes quick up here.
Lol fuck all of this shit if McKenna starts being hard to find.
It already is in Cincinnati
If anyone needs some Weller SR at $19.99 + tax/shipping let me know. Probably have a bit more than I need.
I bought one in NC three months ago and they had cases. I was gone in two weeks.
Yeah I kinda want to get one out of curiosity. I've had it once and thought it was ok. I'm not paying a dime over retail, so I'll buy one if I find one, otherwise IDGAF about it.
It is in the Elijah Craig category for me. It is a damn good bourbon for the price.
I have a bottle in Ohio so I'll bring it to a game you don't come to.
I'm never letting you try another one of my bourbons
Can get the Buffalo Trace Experience for $100 a piece (two bottles sold in a pair).
Anyone know anything about it?
experimental or experience?
Experience is what he said when he called me but he said the bottles are sold in pairs so maybe one of each? I don’t really know because I’m not familiar.
Easy to find in GA but has gone from $26.99 everywhere to $45 everywhere in like a 6 month span. When my current bottle ends I won’t be rebuying for a long time
Yeah. Definitely not worth that price.
Was able to snag a local store pick Eagle Rare last night and guess those have gone up a bit in price as well. Paid $40 after tax.
I'm pretty sure I heard McKenna bib is allocated in Alabama now. This is getting fucking stupid.
