Nice, how’d you snag it?
If I was going to sell it, I’m not giving it away, that’s really stupid. I originally offered to trade, he didn’t offer anything I wanted, so I offered him the alternative to pay cash if he wanted to, or offer a different trade, he wasn’t interested and became a belligerent ass hole.
Yeah, you offered it to him at the inflated price people can find on the secondary market. Your intent and/or wants and needs are irrelevant. You charged him a higher price than you paid for the exact same bottle. You charged him the higher secondary market higher price, and I'm not sure how you can't see that is a problem since within the last week you were claiming such tactics at a store are abhorrent.
Got it from the Total Wine online sale for grand reserve members
So does this thought process continue to trade? Should I feel bad about not trading an ETL for any other bottle that retails for $45 like say an Eagle Rare? That seems mind numbing my dumb. I don’t know him, so I don’t see why I’d sell it to him for less, if he was a friend or someone I had previous dealings with that’s a different story... I’m just curious.
Awesome snag, congrats man!
How much do you have to spend to get to that level, or are there other requirements?
I don't really give a shit about your curiosity as to my thought process echoing the sentiments of a large portion of bourbon enthusiasts.
What you did is shitty. End of story.
It’s pretty simple. You said you’d be willing to trade. So you take the secondary value which takes into account scarcity and we come to an agreement which bottle(s) make sense. If not, not biggie and everyone moves on. But you have flat out said you’re trying to trade/ sell up to get Pappy. I’m not part of the hustle. I just like to play bottles with my friends and drink. One of my friends loves ETL so I’d like to get it for him, but I’m not going to give you the cash benefit and 100% secondary upsell. If we traded, it isn’t a secondary auction. And again you are playing the secondary upsell game so get fucked.
I think it’s roughly $2,500 in a year and you have to be grand reserve by Oct 1st to get the email. I had a group of friends all use my phone number when they shopped until I got to it. It’s good until the end of 2019 and we get free booze classes/tastings too. Pretty good perk
This isn’t going anywhere productive because we just disagree. I was willing to trade the bottle and still am, but since there wasnt a deal for us with the bottles you had, I offered you an alternative that you opted not to take which was totally fine by me. I also enjoy drinking my bourbon, all but two of the bottles I own right now are opened because I like drinking it. Best of luck to you.
Motion to keep sales of bourbon out of this thread and entertain trades only. I don't disagree with Detlef but I also understand why tjsblue is pissed. Small volume of transactions is going to lead to some anger in similar situations. Best bet for all is going to be joining a raffle site on Facebook. FadeMe how dead is CBM? Do you know any of the mods? Could be a good starting point to add everyone here and get that train rolling again rather than flood some of the other overcrowded groups with new members
I’m good with this. I’d love to do a raffle group.
Did you miss the part in that quote where the guy told him one price and rang it up another? Cool. Best of luck to you as well.
I just bought a bottle of ETL for $80. I think that makes me an asshole like Detlef Schrempf for contributing to the secondary market.
Seriously though guys you are making a way bigger deal out of this than need be.
Let’s get back to business and talk about getting a raffle group going or joining one that already exists, that sounds like fun.
Are we though? Discouraging secondary markets discourages the practice. My goal is to discourage secondary sales from taking place here. Seems like it's working based on One Two's post.
Sounds interesting I'd also be interested in a group where you guys just send me bourbon, so that would work too
Sounds like someone’s volunteering to confirm each bottle is legit.
Got one of these bad boys on Saturday. Excited to open it. I heard this year’s Stagg is really good.
Im sure that one bottle not being sold secondary will really put a dent in the overall bourbon market.
Now let’s talk raffle group.
Really want to get one of those. Love the stagg jr.
Guns which High West you looking at? Double Rye is good and fine neat, but their top of the line offerings - Bourye collections, rendezvous rye, and midwinter nights dram - are where it's at. All of those are worth a purchase if for $100 or less, particularly MWND. Caveat here is all are rye blends. If you aren't a rye guy probably won't enjoy. Also a thing to keep an eye out for are double rye bottles that were finished in various barrels. I've got a single barrel double rye that was finished in a boulvedaire barrel opened right now and it is awesome
From what I’ve read the WLW was the standout from the BTAC this year, I’d love to find one of those. Staggs a little lighter proof than years past this year isn’t it, or am I remembering that wrong?
Someone want to walk through the details of how the raffle groups work?
I'm happy too. Just need to get a gameplan first. See who is interested here and go from there
I’d be in
If it means I get to try each bottle then sign me up!
I’m interested as well.
Interested. No idea how it works though.
How many people do we need for it to be feasable One Two ?
There is an existing group that's a bit dead that I think we could revitalize with some new blood. Waiting on FadeMe to let me know bc it appears I'm no longer a member. He will kill me for this but I'll vouch for y'all if it means getting the group up and running again. Creepy fun part is that we will all have to become friends on Facebook. Second option is building our own group, which I would be happy to moderate, but would need at least 100 members to make it operational. So would require friend invites, etc.
Initial buildout in either scenario would require us to be Facebook friends*
After that could add members as you please
A question: how much thread space will be devoted to these raffles? I like the thread as is because I can learn about products from fellow TMBers who have tried them. Most posts contribute in some way. Yet, the discussion about a raffle has already taken the thread off track. I don’t want to have to scroll through a bunch of peripheral stuff to read posts about bourbon quality.
If we do the raffle shit bitching about it on here will be outlawed in my opinion
Also no, the raffle stuff will be on a Facebook group and not in this thread
Ahh so this would require me to get Facebook? Might take me back out.
Also Mitchers 10 is really great. Had a small glass to unwind after work and it’s still my favorite bourbon for the price.
I don’t think it would be a bad thing like every few months to mention the raffle group to new people who stumble onto the thread but it shouldn’t be a consistent topic of conversation here imo.
I noticed my local store has a bunch and was curious. It's definitely on the top shelf so I'm sure it's not cheap. I actually went to the High West restaurant in Park City a few years back but had no idea wtf I was drinking.
My bar has beer/shot combo with Old Overholt and I like that, so maybe rye is my thing.
I’m in all the big groups already, but if we join a smaller group for TMB, I’m in for sure
I’d be in.
I’d be in. I’d also love to start a group for sample swapping. Makes it a lot more realistic to try bourbons you aren’t wanting to pay an outrageous amount of money for (or try before opening your own) and those sample bottles are relatively cheap on amazon and super easy/more discreet to ship.
PVW 15 year old being delivered today. Excited is an understatement.
From what I can tell distilleries are working to make Rye the next Bourbon, so to speak. By this I mean many there is variety in the offered concepts and a better range of quality and flavor profiles. This should only improve over the next few years. I’ve never been a Rye guy, but due to the inflation of prices for good bourbon I’ve been trying more of them and have been impressed.
Big Stagg is 125. I had some on Friday night and enjoyed it. I haven't gotten to try WLW yet this year.
Drink some rum too... super cheap.
