A little long, but I would appreciate anyone's thoughts or comments on this. There were a few lines in DwD that I thought were important and vital to the story, but sometimes I can't tell if GRRM just bluntly gives away things or if he's trying to trick you. Anyway, here's what I've got. I can't decide which is the "right" side of the whole light vs dark, good vs evil, true king vs saving westeros, or which I need to be focused on. BRAN From one of his POVs: "There he sat, listening to the hoarse whispers of his teacher. "Never fear the darkness, Bran." .... The strongest trees are rooted in the dark places on the earth. Darkness will be your cloak, your shield, your mother's milk. Darkness will make you strong." Not sure what to make of this. Darkness is what Melisandre and R'hllor are passionately against. Does Bran end up on the other side of what the red god is trying to accomplish? MELISANDRE This bitch is powerful, and old. From one of her POV's: "There was no one, even in her order, who was skilled at seeing the secrets half-revealed and half-concealed within the sacred flames" Even she says she gets it wrong sometimes, but what she sees is always important. We just have to figure out what they mean. Is this simple line meant to be so telling: "I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R'hllor shows me only Snow." JON I'm on team Jon is Azor Ahai, aka the Prince that was Promised. Melisandre will either help that come true in the next book, or finally have her own moment and assist Jon as she was Stannis. She already helps him to some degree anyway. I won't clutter this with the smoke, salt, bleeding star stuff, nor how it happens with the man, wolf, man stuff, but just wanted to add a few things. Prophecy: "And the sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes." Jon's dream: "Jon was armored in black ice, but his blade burned red in his fist." Also, I'm starting to think Jon "tempers the blade" by stabbing Melisandre to complete his transformation. It might even be her idea as her ultimate sacrifice for R'hllor. I don't know if this will be another way to validate Jon, or if the whole Night's Watch will figuratively be Lightbringer, but their vows even explicitly say "I am the sword in the darkness....I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn" And I'm done. Thoughts?
When I read book 5 that was what I kept thinking...Bran ending up on the other side. GRRM is that much of a jackass and it would set up an interesting show down with him and Jon.
I don't think Bran ends up on the other side. I think Bran will help Jon realize what he needs to do the way the Children of the Forest helped Azor Ahai.
definitely a possibility. The anticipation of how everything is going to play out just makes me so pissed that GRRM is gonna die and leave us with nothing
If he dies before finishing the series and doesn't leave notes for someone to finish how he wanted it finished I'm going to fly to wherever he's buried just to spit on his grave.
Pick me, I'm half-way done with my version of book 6. Not to give too much away, but let's just say Dany and Melisandre have some pretty awesome lesbian scenes.
Aight you're in. I'll have to include LT8 as well because if I don't he'll leave me hundred of voicemails crying and about being left out.
Hodor flew over the Wall, looking down upon the hundreds of night watchmen that had just recently made jest of him. "HODOR!", he cried. "Hodor!" Hodor reached a massive hand to the neck of the magnifigent creature, softly stroking the glistening green scales. "Hodor," he whispered to her. "Hodor, hodor... hodor".
Yeah, for all we know. Nothing points any different. In fact, his kids were at Winterfell and never said anything about him dying, which I'm sure they would have mentioned. Pretty sure he is alive and floating around Greywater Watch.
