Britain is a warning to the US that when you withdraw from imperial dominance you must not become an article-based economy. And we aren’t heeding it.
Thanks, you bumders! I’m embarrassed at how many times I’ve watched the inbetweeners. Personal favorite episodes: When Will steals a woman’s wig from the nursing home. When they get on the boat and Neil punches the fish to death. Will does weed at the concert. Simons accident walking on the catwalk.
My wife loves mushy peas and I’ve decided it’s some kind of institutionalized Stockholm syndrome situation.
Derry Girls is easily one of the best comedies on Netflix. Speaking of British comedies that are top-tier and worth the watch, there’s two (one new, one older) that I’ve rewatched multiple times. The new one is the British version of Ghosts. It’s hilarious and has quite a few amazing characters. The American version is dogshit and lazily-written in comparison. And the older one is an Irish show, Mrs. Brown’s Boys. Kinda like if Mrs. Doubtfire was an R-rated comedy.
Loved Derry Girls. My wife got a recommendation for Ghosts, so we watched an episode or 2 of the American version, and it sucked. Then my wife discovered that the reco had been for the original British version, and that was MUCH better. We watched it all.
Robin the caveman is so good in that show. He even does subtle things that you don’t notice if you’re not paying attention that are funny. And for anyone that wasn’t a fan of Barbara, Keely’s CFO in Ted Lasso, she is actually really good as Mary in Ghosts.
Yeah I double-taked at her in Lasso, like "I KNOW I know her from somewhere, and had to IMBD her to figure it out. Also, the pantsless PM from that show was the Art Garfunkel lookalike character in The Detectorists, another excellent Bris show.
It's predictable, really not very funny at all, pure dross playing to the absolute lowest common denominator (no offence). The better recent comedies you should watch are the ones mentioned here already: The Inbetweeners, Peep Show, Young Offenders etc. Not sure if "What we do in the shadows" counts as a British comedy, but that, too.
No that’s fair. I saw all the other ones mentioned already that’s why I was throwing out a different one. I think I enjoy MBB more for sentimental reasons. It was one of the shows I used to watch with my British grandfather before he passed. I would choose all the ones you’ve mentioned ahead of it if I had to rank them. And What we do in the shadows is one of my favorite shows. Never considered it a British show. But if it is, then it’s definitely one of the top ones mentioned in the thread.
Have we mentioned Spaced yet? If not, Spaced. Also Dead Pixels. For the Full Time Americans, a lot of these shows are going to have a lot of British-centric humo(u)r that’s just going to wash over you without you noticing it’s there. A lot of thes, especially early in my relationship with my wife, I would just pause the show, look at her, wait for her to explain what just happened, and unpause it again.
People on our local FB group shaming people for walking their dogs "in this heat". It is 75F and overcast. Even my wife was like "yes that's too hot for dogs". Where I grew up, you wouldn't be able to take dogs out from May to September.
